- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2022Based on a true story, this paranormal mystery features modern day Druid Kylah, the reincarnation of Alice Kyteler, a 14th century Irish woman burned for practicing witchcraft.
When Kylah finds herself wrongly accused of murder, she must consume the "dark brew" and regress to her former life to discover the identity of the true killer, for she knows that she must learn from her past or forever be doomed to repeat it.
Intricately weaving the present and the past, the author brings to life the true story of Alice Kyteler through the creation of fictional character Kylah McKinley.
A fascinating read for all who love Druidic magic and mystery!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2016Complete disclosure- this book starts off as a hot mess and I read about 12% before there was a plot, however, if you take a bit of time to get through this it will be well worth it by book's end. This was a complex, layered story about more than just past life and romance. It was a mystery, suspense and fact finding mission with a great deal of atmospheric prose and lush detail. I enjoyed the past life scenes more than most of the modern day scenes, but that's a personal preference more than the actual quality of the writing. While more about past life regression that actual time travel, this does have a fantastical flare to it and as such would be best for those who do enjoy fiction with a flourish rather than realism. I am certainly interested in reading more from this author and would recommend to any die hard historical romantics suspense fans.
3 stars and my thanks to the author and tour host for the review opportunity.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2016When you first start reading this book you might think it is slow, but even, so it grabs your attention from the start. I love how it was based off real events that happened in the 1400's and how it talked about how people were healed with herbs back then. I loved all of the twists and turns, I also loved that what happened to Alice in the past happened to Kylah in the present exactly the same way. I liked how everyone in the present was someone from the past and tied in with the story of Alice, I never thought that the person who framed Alice and Kylah would turn themselves in, but karma is a pain. I like that close to the end of the book you think everything is good and that Kylah never expected something bad to happen to Mike when she went to get closure from Enid, and how Charlotte got stuck with being in a wheelchair because she was vindictive, but like I said karma. I would read other books by this author because she really knows how to tell a good story and capture her audience.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2016I'll read anything time travel, fiction or non, and this story has it
all--time travel, reincarnation, karma, witchcraft, and a real woman
who lived in 1300's Ireland, Alice Kyteler, who's a co-heroine. As a
bonus, the 'modern' part of the story is set on Cape Cod, where I've
had some of my most memorable vacations. It switches back and forth
between the present on Cape Cod and the past in Ireland--the two
co-heroines' lives are nearly identical. That's cause the modern
co-heroine, Kylah, is the reincarnation of Alice. All the twists and
turns tie up neatly in the end, and everyone gets the karma they
deserve, even the villain, who turns out to be a murderer. Great fun
stuff. I'm going to read it again this summer, since it's set in the
summer, and the most romantic moment happens at a baseball game!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2016I love paranormal books and I could see why people would love this book however I just really struggled to get into it.
I love to loose myself but found I just couldn't do in this book and that is the main thing I look for in a book.
However the characters where very well written and very believable and the basis of the book was good.
Gifted in exchange for an honest review.
