Eli is an ancient vampire with an ego the size of a planet and a sex drive to match, but his tumultuous past left him broken, so he hides from humanity and cowers from love, left to endure the crushing guilt that haunts his every waking moment. Even his best friend, Malachi, a ghost who is hopelessly in love with Eli, remains unaware of all that transpired in London. Malachi can never know the truth.

When the Angel Daniyyel pays an unwelcome visit, Eli must face his secrets, secrets that he has tried so long to hide. To make matters worse, a chance encounter with the most beautiful man he has ever seen shatters his beloved isolation, pushing him into the world of the living once more. Something about this strange man seems so familiar, but Eli can’t even remember who he was before he became a vampire, never mind explain the unwanted emotions the enigmatic stranger ignites in his dead heart. So Eli has a choice – return to the world that ruined him, or continue his self-imposed exile with no hope of salvation.

My name is Sean Kerr, and I am a 47-year-old gay man living in Cardiff, Wales with my husband of almost 30 years, Derek. We have two cats, Rita and Harry, and a host of tropical fish.

I love writing, it has been in my blood since I was a child. It’s a wonderful thing to read a book, to be transported to another world, and nothing gives me more pleasure than reading a new novel, or indeed, starting to write one! When I was eight, my Aunt bought me a copy of Dracula in a jumble sale. That summer, I read that book over and over again, and even now it is still my go to book for inspiration. It fuelled my imagination, and it became a doorway to so many possibilities. Writing is a wonderful thing, for it shows us new worlds and new characters, horror and love, sadness and joy. I love it.

This novel was an incredible read. Incorporating history, vampires, angels, and ghosts, Dead Camp revolves around Eli, an ancient vampire, broken, with no memory of his past before a catastrophic event. After decades of shunning humanity in favor of his ghost friend, Malachi, Eli saves a stranger’s life, the most beautiful man he’d ever met.
Set in Germany, Eli must make a choice involving himself and the Nazi war machine.
I purchased this book after reading some posts of Facebook, wanting to know if the author’s humor extended into his writing. WOW. One of those chicken and egg dilemmas.
The world created was vivid, stark, and very real. Each individual is distinct with his own quirks and stays true to character. I loved the humor and felt their devastation. An incredible job – well done. It amazes me how, with some books, if you can’t read them straight through, it’s hard to pick up where you left off, remembering what was happening to whom. Not with this book. Despite all the (days long) interruptions, I had no trouble picking it up and reading right along. I can’t wait to read the next in line.

It's not often I get rolled up into a book in the first sentence. But there I was innocently perusing the opening line of Dead Camp and found myself immediately immersed. Kerr's wordcraft melts over you like an over easy egg.

There is a vampire at the center of this story.

In a market that is saturated with shifters Kerr has me begging to be drenched and drowning in Eli.

Eli is a unique vampire that could easily be compared to the character BLADE—a Day Walker, etc. However, Blade is almost a perfect character: Flawless in his purpose and execution of vampires. Eli is hardly perfect in any sense other than perhaps a perfect mess! He screws up, says the wrong things, he’s selfish at times like the rest of us…well…he’s almost human and what could be more messed up than that. You find yourself screaming at the pages for Eli to do this or say that, and it’s not because there is something wrong with the writing. It’s because there is something RIGHT! Kerr gets you engaged and that is the point of reading and by far the point of writing. Get your readers engaged with the characters. He wields a mastery of the written word with such exactness and ease I could only imagine other writers would be inspired and jealous of his skills all at the same time, patting him on the back with one hand and punching him in the face with the other because he’s THAT DAMN GOOD!

If vampires aren't your choice of delicacy have no fear. Sean Kerr has prepared an assortment of paranormal treats to tempt your palate. There are ghosts, demons, and an angel. Let me stop here and say that Kerr's description of an angel is by far the best I have ever read in any work, and most unique. Lest we forget there is an erotic element in this story. Oh, and there are Nazis too. What? Too much? With such a myriad of entities and elements in one book it could easily fall over into a cumbersome read. But Sean Kerr does not simply slop characters onto a plate and shove it in your face. No, Kerr is a culinary master that has skillfully concocted this savory dish, developing flavors peppered with ghost, a dash of demon, and a sprinkle of angel to present an exquisite feast for your delight.

If you suffer from a multitude of tastes, like myself, and can’t decide if you’re in the mood for action, romance, eroticism, or supernatural exploits then go no further. Chef Kerr has got the dish just for you in DEAD CAMP 1.

I was very surprised by this book! You have Eli who is an ancient (and very angsty) vampire. He's had a rough past so he's hidden himself away from the world with only his ghost pal Mal as company. Then bam! There's an angel at his door and he's rescuing a mysterious stranger which flips his quiet lonely world upside down. This is all taking place during WWII and I love all the historical and religious aspects. There are some very funny moments but for the most part it's a very serious and dark tale.

One of the most extraordinary things about Dead Camp is the fact that it is Sean Kerr's debut novel! It reads likes it's been written by an author with many many books under his belt. The language, the intricacies of the plot and the depth of the characters are the mark of a fine novelist. It is quite simply one of the best debut novels I've read.

Sean has created a world within a world. A world populated by vampires, angels, demons, and even the devil himself. It is a world were humanity and life on earth exist in a precarious balance. Where good and evil battle for power in the shadows, and the outcome of that battle may well determine the fate of mankind.

There is a suprising amount of humour in Sean's storytelling. His MC's can be arrogant, petulant and even sassy. There are extremes of good and evil but also areas of grey which make the characters all the more interesting.

Dead Camp is the first in a series of four books. Having read this one I intend to immediately one click the second. I know I'll be waiting impatiently for the third and final books and I can't wait to see where Sean takes us on this unforgettable journey!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stimulating on every level.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 19, 2016
I wasn’t sure whether this would be my cup of tea. I like MM; it is my preferred genre but adding vampires, angels, demons and ghosts to the mix made me think this story might be a bit of a parody. Oh how wrong I was and I devoured the 3 books in one week! Each character is magnificent and there is no real definition between good and evil in any of them. They all have a bit of both and that makes for a compelling read. The imagination and intellect of the author was stimulating on every level and I never thought I be shedding tears in a book like this. Sean’s words are captivating and drew me in to the story so that as each new event unfurled I was on the edge of my seat anticipating the outcome with bated breath. There was suspense, horror, terror, love, joy, passion and drama in every chapter and I loved every single word. Not to mention the black humour and scorching hot sex scenes. Sean Kerr is clever – he has taken the paranormal to a new level of intellect combining everything we have come to expect from MM erotic romance with a bloody good story. The historic elements and depth of research is to be praised. A delightful discovery and highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising, shocking, funny and sad. Not for the faint-hearted.
Reviewed in France on August 22, 2016
I've spent a couple of days wondering what exactly I wanted to say about this novel and I'm not sure I'm any closer to doing this review justice. I bought it on a whim, I love vampires and the title tickled me immensely.
Eli is a very strong character to say the least and one I warmed to straight away. On the surface he's crude, self obsessed and shallow, on closer inspection he's a tormented soul in search of absolution. The writing in this book through Eli's voice is magical and shocking and to be honest I wanted to remain with him. But Ethan's story must also be told and his journey and others thread through this very entertaining novel. I cried in parts, which doesn't often happen unless a book really touches me. Kerr has a fine way with words and knows how to tug at your heart strings, conversely some of Eli's rather graphic descriptions made my toes curl but he is nothing if not true to his character which shines through the bleak landscape of a war torn world. I have never heard a voice quite like Kerr's, he is certainly unique among the extensive reading list I've worked through to date. I have my suspicions about Eli's true identity and very much look forward to the following books in the series to see if I'm right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genie und Wahnsinn liegen dicht beieinander!
Reviewed in Germany on August 16, 2016

Wow holly smokes..I gota say this is a first book the author has written and it has blown me away.. This story will not let you put it down.. It involves a special kind of vampire called Eli who's been hiding from the world and his past.. That's until he rescues a man from death, Ethan has given up resigned to faith of the end, after witnessing horrors of his past no one expects.. .The tale all includes demons, angels, and a ghost for an exciting story. I totally give this 10 golden stars and is a MUST read (which is rare of me to say)
