About the authors
Summer Hanford writes gripping Epic Fantasy, swashbuckling Historical Romance, and best-selling Pride and Prejudice retellings. She lives in the Finger Lakes Region of New York with her husband and compulsory, deliberately spoiled, cat. The newest addition to their household, an energetic setter-shepherd mix, has been trying, and failing, for six years to gain acceptance from the cat, but is adored by the humans.
Since the moment she read her first novel, Summer’s passion has always been writing. As a child growing up on a dairy farm, she built castles made of hay and wielded swords made of fence posts. She is also passionate about animals, travel, and organizing her closet. Nothing pleases her more than a row of tops broken down by sleeve length and ordered by color…except working on her latest novel with her cat in her lap, her dog lounging on the rug dreaming of squirrels, and a cup of tea at hand.
Renata McMann is the pen name of someone who likes to rewrite public domain works. She is fond of thinking "What if?"

- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2016What can I say but another home run for Ms McMann!!! I was glued, as much as I could be between my patients, to this book. This is such a unique and interesting twist to the P&P plot that it captured my attention.
Okay, in A Death at Rosings, we start at the point after the I'll-advised proposal and Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam have left. The Collinses, Miss Lucas and Elizabeth are over at Rosings for tea/dinner, when the unthinkable happens...Lady Cat dies!!! Everything is in chaos, then the next day Anne requests Elizabeth's presence and asks her to stay and help her in her time of need. Elizabeth agrees provided she can go when and if she desires to. Elizabeth is there to aide Anne with learning to deal with people, but at the first major test, Anne failed massively!!!! Anne acted more like her mother than anything, imperial!!! Anne was dealt a disappointing blow, and Elizabeth was the only one who attempted to prevent it from happening.
Anne does as she told Elizabeth she would and invited Kitty to Rosings since she was the only one who would not have had a chance to travel. The events of P&P are present on this tale, just at a different timeline. Lydia goes with the Foresters to Brighton early, and since Elizabeth is at Rosings, Mary goes to the Lake District with the Gardiners.
This extended time at Rosings proves both encouraging and detrimental both Elizabeth and Darcy. The inner turmoil of the two is so fascinating to read, and again is annoying that they can't just speak what's on their minds. I loved how Anne became such and influence on the moldable follower (Kitty). It is refreshing to see the steps in the progress that made Kitty better equipped for society than as Lydia's tag-a-long.
Yes there is still the devil in Wickham and Lydia, but I loved events surrounding that debacle. Darcy is very cunning and a devious gentleman when he wants to be!!! Yet so riddled with guilt. The only things that kills me is how fickle Elizabeth can be at times...falling for someone but not wanting to give them a chance because he wouldn't relent on one issue!!!! Ugghh, I sometimes want to just smack her upside the head!! LOL!!
I would have to say that this tale was easily one of my favorites that I've read lately. I would HIGHLY recommend any JAFFer to read and enjoy this twist off P&P
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2015This is a well written book that has an interesting take that leads to a lot of interaction between Elizabeth and Darcy. It is all fun and good and you will enjoy it a lot. All the sisters get pretty much into parts of the story. I was glad I bought it even though at the time it had no reviews. But it is a good addition to the P&P stories that I enjoy so very much.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2016I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at how much I really enjoyed reading this book. It is the first time I branched out to read this type of novel which took me beyond the classic. I am a lover of fantasy (hence my connection to the author Summer Hanford) so I was very happy to learn I could enjoy it so much. Perhaps I liked it as much as I did because I really appreciate the way Summer Hanford writes. I know it is co-authored but I am only familair with Hanford's novels which I have been a big fan of. I am not one to generally review a book, but this deserves it as it was an joyful escape from reality and a book that I think many of my friends would enjoy.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2016This was an interesting premise having Lady Catherine die at the beginning and Anne being left with the running of the estate and the household. It is very obvious she would not have made a good mistress for Pemberley since Anne seems to have very little knowledge about how to run a household. She is so deficient, in fact, that she asks Elizabeth to remain with her and help her learn to manage her household, but even after Elizabeth agrees, Anne ignores some of Elizabeth's suggested help. In fact, her rejections of Elizabeth's help at one point leads to most of Rosings staff to leave Anne's employment, and also the estate loses some of it tenants because of Anne's actions.
The interaction between Darcy and Elizabeth is also interesting to watch. Elizabeth had already rejected Darcy's proposal before Lady Catherine's death, and Darcy and the Colonel had already returned to London. There is some tension between the couple because of the rejection, but Darcy is still wanting to be around Elizabeth now that he had returned to help Anne with the estate, and Elizabeth is looking kinder on the gentleman. The major block between the couple is Darcy's insistence of informing Mr. Bingley that Jane Bennet is or was in love with him, and for this, Elizabeth still holds a grudge.
**** Contains Spoiler ******
The story is fairly well told, we still have the Lydia - Wickham incident, but because Kitty was invited to Rosings to also befriend Anne, who never had friends before, Lydia's elopement plans are discovered early on. Prior to the elopement, Kitty makes a favorable comment about Wickham, and because of Darcy's letter to Elizabeth, Elizabeth knows how deceitful Wickham is and points out some interesting facts about his behavior in Meryton that opens Kitty's eyes to some truths about the man.
Overall, though, this is a likable story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2015Like unwrapping a piece of Godiva, this one generously indulges that P&P craving. Well-crafted, solid writing. I did wish for a bit more romance, but when everything about a story fits so well I can't have any real reason to repine (autocorrect did not want to spell that word. Lol).
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2016Lady MacBeth - ah, Catherine deBourgh - is suddenly dead. This leaves her delicate daughter Anne in charge of Rosings without a clue as how to proceed. As Elizabeth Bennet is still visiting her friend Charlotte Collins, and as Anne admires her spirit, she asks Lizzy to stay with her and assist her through the difficult first days of running the estate. When Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam return expecting to take the reins from Anne's shaky hands, fireworks ensue. An excellent re-imagining of characters and story that takes in the settling of more lives than one might expect. Well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original!
I have recently discovered these authors and have been enjoying their books very much. They characterisations are good, they write well – though the book could do with a little proofreading for typos. This variation is unlike any other I have read. The plot allows time for Lizzie and Darcy to really get to know another. We also see another side of Ann de Bough. plus Happy ever afters for two of Elizabeth sisters, highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A creditable P&P variation
As far as P&P variations go, this one is really creditable. I believe in the characters and they seem very much to canon. The 'plot' is believable for the most part and although the outcome is inevitable the getting there is an enjoyable journey.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
Between 3.5 and 4, rounded up.
I rather enjoyed this story. The plot was interesting, as was seeing how the authors dealt with the consequences of Lady Catherine’s death. I liked witnessing Elizabeth and Darcy getting to know each other better.
I do think their on-going conflict regarding Jane and Bingley was a bit of a stretch. As a way to keep E&D from coming to an agreement sooner, it was a bit weak. But that is a quibble; it worked well enough, as did what happened with Elizabeth’s younger sisters.
I’d recommend this to people who like Austen variations, and who are looking for a light read.
