Deception (Highland Brides of Skye Book 3) Kindle Edition
Over the years, many lasses have found refuge in the Scottish Highland’s Glenwood Abbey. But for three young ladies, sanctuary becomes servitude, with master puppeteer Malcom Donald using them in his plan to rule the Isle of Skye.
Deception
Betrothed to Lady Allison, the granddaughter of the dying MacKenzie laird, Jacob MacKinnon stands ready to do his duty and unite their two clans. But enemies watch, and plan to prevent the uniting of those two powers.
After an attack on his betrothed’s carriage leaves only Lady Allison alive, Jacob is determined to find her would-be killers.
Linnae Donald is a lowly serving girl. How is she supposed to tell Laird MacKenzie that the granddaughter he’s mistaken her for died when their carriage was attacked?
She can’t break a dying man’s heart. Neither can she do what Jacob MacKinnon asks and help him prevent a war by pretending to be Lady Alison…and marrying him.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2024A story of tragedy, deception, and love. Linnae traveled with her friend Lady Allison when an accident kills everyone but Linnae. Mistaken for Lady Allison when rescued, she tried honesty but was sworn to continue the charade by Jacob, who only wanted Allison's dying grandfather to die peacefully. Secrets come out, danger hovers, and a generous dying man brings the couple together in a permanent way. Linnae and Jacob had chemistry and insta-love to culminate into an HEA.
George Ellington narrated this 3rd book in the series, and he did a great job again. I enjoyed his different intonations for all the characters.
This is my unsolicited review.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2019The last in the series, this one is a great story to the very end. Maybe my favorite of the three! This is Jacob and Linnae's story and it really kept me glued to the pages to see what would happen!! Jacob MacKinnon was to marry Lady Allison, granddaughter of the dying MacKenzie laird. It was a union to bring two clans together. But others were not happy about it and attack the carriage that the lady is on and leaves only a serving girl, Linnae Donald alive. She has to pretend to be Allison and the journey begins.
Loved this story and this short series... Even though it can be read as a standalone, you want to read each one! I read this through booksprout
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2018* spoiler alert ** This was the third book. I found it as short as the first two though there's a bit more meat in this one.
Linnae was the maid to the Lady who was actually killed on her way to her wedding. She explains this to McKinnon who asks her to fake being the lady until after the Lady's grandfather passes away so her death doesn't hasten the process. She agrees and becomes attached to the grandfather which was quite sweet. She had more backbone than the other two girls as shown by her refusal to let the Laird marry and then discard her. He of course falls instantly in love with her. Turns out grandpa was in on it all and gets a priest to complete papers making it that he's adopted her as his granddaughter.
They go thru with the wedding to learn who was behind the attack that killed 3 of the four ladies in the carriage. Malcolm appears, tries to make Linnae work for him again and then attacks Jacob before ending up killed. The lady's brother was also behind the attack so he gets jailed and the Laird role left to a young man more distantly related.
Super short Scottish romance quickie though this one has more meat on it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2019Tarah Scott does not disappoint.
If you enjoy tales of hunky Highlanders and strong women, you’ll devour this tale as fast as I did! What begins as young women are traveling on the way to the Highlands, things turn sour. Yet despite being afraid, one young girl rises above what’s happening around her to do what is best for the clan. She remains true to herself and others amidst uncertainty and danger. Love reading about strong women! Even though there isn’t the ending I expected, I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2019Lady Alison is traveling to her grandfather's home to marry Jacob with 3 of her maids. Jacob is rumored to be handsome, brave and strong while Alison is a bit of a spoiled beauty. Attacked by brigands along the road, a terrible accident occurs and the carriage plunges down a ravine, killing three. Alison's ailing grandfather insists on an immediate marriage to seal the alliances between the clans before mayhem occurs in Skye. Interesting twists in the story, well written.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2019Lady Allison is n her way to wed Laird Jacob McKenzie, however the carriage is attacked, and only one lady survives, but it isnt the lady , but a maid Lennae. Assumptions are made when she is found because she is wearing a ladies clothing which had been a gift of her former Lady Mistress Allison. As events progress, she is at the point that she must reveal her identity, and therein lies the real story. Enjoyable story!!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2018My favorite, “Deception”, tells Jacob MacKinnon and Linnae Donald’s story. Jacob is supposed to marry Lady Allison, granddaughter of the MacKenzie laird. But an unfortunate event leaves Linnae as the only survivor of Lady Allisson’s carriage. Now Jacob is torn between lying to an old dying friend to ensure his peaceful departure from life or telling the truth.
Honor is the word that follows the events in this book. There are no silly complications, there are no naïve characters. We have a strong leader, an intelligent ruler and a woman trying to do right by her dead Lady. I loved how they came to appreciate one another, I loved Linnae’s devotion and I loved old MacKenzie’s plan! This book made me smile and so much more!
I loved every page and again I loved the balance between plot and short length. 5 stars!
