Definitely Deacon: Second Chance, Friends to Lovers, MM Contemporary Romance (Belong to Me Book 2) Kindle Edition
Jesse Ainsley’s life running his busy veterinary practice in the sleepy Cornwall bay he grew up in leaves no time for a serious relationship… at least, that’s what he tells himself, but the simple truth is much more cliché. He’s been in love with his best friend forever, but when he starts pulling away and goes radio silent on him for six months, Jesse begins to wonder if their friendship is finally over.
Deacon James lives his life at two speeds, a hundred miles an hour and stop. He’s spent the last decade travelling the world, winning races, partying with the most beautiful men and women, and living life on his terms, a life which was pretty close to perfect… with just one caveat… he’s never quite been able to get over the boy he left behind. His best friend Jesse has always made him yearn for something he’s too afraid to face and cutting him out of his life seemed like the only answer.
But things are never that simple. When Deacon wakes from an accident in Italy with Jesse asleep in the hospital chair beside him, he discovers Jesse’s been keeping secrets of his own.
At a crossroads in their life, they’re faced with a choice, build something deeper and stronger from the ashes, or let words unsaid and secrets tear them apart forever.
From author Vawn Cassidy comes this second chance, friends to lovers, hurt/comfort with a HEA.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2022I am completely in love with Vawn Cassidy’s characters! Jesse and Deacon absolutely slayed me with the emotions and the feels. This book is so good! The char are well written: lovable, flawed, not perfect but growing and learning how to be better and live. This is a second chance, best friends to lovers book at its best. I also want more of Uncle Garrett, Colin, and Deak’s friends. I can’t wait for Ryan’s book now. I am seriously addicted to this author’s books. They are becoming automatic buys for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2022This series is becoming a really enjoyable one.
Characters are absorbing and memorable. And not just the MC's - the side characters are just as engaging and well-conceived.
While it took some time for me to warm up to Deacon, Jesse captured my heart immediately. Jesse is nurturing, patient and sweet. And it didn't surprise me that he had answers to questions that Deacon hadn't even thought to ask. Once you learn of why Deacon seems a little lost, you can't help but warm up to him too.
The few new characters that were introduced seem fairly interesting. There are going to be stories for all of them, either in this series or a spin-off.
One of my favorite scenes in the book is when Deacon's uncle, Garrett meets Colin. I know they are getting a book so I'm really looking forward to that.
All in all, this was a really enjoyable read... 💙💙
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2022While Vawn does not have a massive backlist, the books she has written, so freaking good! And Deacon and Jesse's story continues the streak of books you will read in one sitting! And so many fun secondary characters who need their HEA!!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2022This series is truly amazing. So many cool characters were introduced in this book and I can’t wait to see them all in future books as they hopefully find their special someone. Jesse and Deacon were awesome and what an epilogue!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2022A real letdown after Nat and Beck’s story. I didn’t care for Deacon and it took more than half the book for them to even have a conversation, much less move towards something resembling an actual relationship. There were a bunch of extra characters and situations tossed in, including a brief continuation of the storyline for Nat’s sister. Things improved for a time in the latter third but the epilogue was absurd. Some characters become caricatures.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2022Neither the characters nor the story are particularly interesting here. Started out okay. After Deacon is injured, lovesick Jesse flies to Italy to sit by his bedside. Why is Jesse lovesick? Oh, the typical. In love with his best friend since childhood. The one who split town as soon as he was of age and never looked back. The one who strings Jesse along for a decade before ghosting him completely. So the setup is there for some Florence nightingale setup, but no. Deacon is sooo injured he needs to stay with someone for two months yet we never really see him convalescing. He’s hanging out in jesses house, but never really seems in need of care.
Mostly, we hear the characters’ thought a lot. And they talk to other characters a lot, but they never really talk to each other. There’s no real ramping up of romance or really any feelings besides the years of hurt.
By the end I was hired and started skimming. Even skimmed right through a sex scene. Yawn. Jesse seemed much more like Beck in this book. He was always around. We see Beck for like a second in this book. Actually, that’s not true. He was in the beginning, but it feels like a completely different book by the end of it. Just boring. The side characters are much more likeable and interesting. Though soooo many side character relationships are introduced that I have no idea if the author is writing stories about them, but they all seem to be hooking up. Different series, maybe?
Here’s hoping the next book is much better. Jesse is a sad sack and Deacon is selfish and closed off. They both lost all the fire they had in book one.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2022OMG! One of the BEST books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading! I’d definitely put it in my top 5 list!!! I just can’t rave on the emotions I felt while reading it. There were so many emotions playing. I laughed, cried, quietly screaming in my head “AUGHHHHH”, moaned, groaned, yippee’d, and feeling content when I got to the end of the book. The bonus scene is definitely a MUST read! I’m amazed at how Vawn Cassidy seamlessly wrote the book and the bonus scene. I’ve never read a bonus scene like this and I’m Definitely (no puns intended) IMPRESSED!!!! I absolutely love Jesse and Deacon. They’re now one of my top 5 favorite couples!!!!! Ms. Cassidy made them so relatable and the conversations between them makes one want to say, “Damn, I would love to have someone talk to me like that!” Sigh!
The story is about Jesse, a veterinarian in a beach town called Cornwall had been pining for his best friend, Deacon for a very loooooong time! Deacon was a competitive sailor who traveled the world and bedded different guys. There seemed to be something drawing Deacon back to Cornwall but at the same time, making him escape Cornwall each time. Jesse continue to yearn for Deacon after that hot kiss one summer when they were younger. Deacon was involved in a car accident in Rome, Italy which injured him badly. Jesse flew to Rome since he was listed as one of the next of kin for Deacon and had to make medical decisions due to the fact that Deacon’s uncle, Garrett was off the grid and he was the primary next of kin. Upon release from the hospital, Deacon had to recuperate for few weeks so Jesse took him back to Cornwall to stay with Uncle Garrett. But he ended up staying at Jesse’s. That’s where I’m going to stop and strongly encourage y’all to pick up the book and read to find out all the surprises. It’ll be worth your time and money!

I loved Jesse and Deacon's emotional story. Their love as both friends and more was beautiful. Some fantastic side characters that I hope we see more of and I want to know more about Nate's sister.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The author has done it again, another fantastic feel good read that flows and leaves you wanting more. Jesse and Deacon are made for each other and you can't help but get swept away with there romance and ofcourse there HEA. The secondary characters are amazing and i love that you get as involved with them as you do the main characters and the epilogue was comedy gold i never stopped laughing. If you love a romance, lots of feels and laugh out loud moments then this book and series is for you. Cant wait for the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings! Jesse and Deacon
Definitely Deacon, book 2, by Vawn Cassidy made familiar reading. A bit emotional and a bit happy. A lot of self-doubt (Jesse) and some blame.
Deacon James was made out to be self-centered, grieving for his dead brother for ten years, but at the same time was busy jaunting around the world water racing and partying with his famous friends.
Jesse a small-town veterinarian has been in love with Deacon since their teenage years but could not admit fearing the loss of friendship, unaware that Deacon was in the same turmoil. When Deacon meets with an accident, Jesse rushed to Rome to take care of him, bringing their love to the fore again.
Most of the supporting characters filter in and out of the story and where there as a prop to keep the narration moving forward. This was puzzling at times.
A typical love story of misunderstandings and confusion galore. All is well that ends well, a happy ending amongst loud cheers, a wedding, and lots of kissing. What more can one want if it brings a smile to your face.
The most hilarious part of the book was the bonus chapter 'Dear Las Vegas, Thanks for the memories'.
I laughed my heart out reading this. The best so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and entertaining!
I love besties pining for each other, it's a really good trope. I'm glad they were able to have their happy ending but now the matching thing has blown out of proportion! I mean, we've got so many stories we need to be told! Nat's sister, Ryan and Kyan? Colin and Garrett? Jim and...? I don't know how this Tetris is gonna work out but I'm willing to read all those stories ❤️
