Pieces (Experimental Heart Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 168 ratings

Most people know where they belong.

As an outcast, even among misfits, I'm not that lucky. It's fine. I don't need them. These walls I've built keep me safe.

Until they don't anymore.

With the rebellion under way, I have enough on my hands gaining my freedom. So when a dragon cracks the shield I've built around me, it brings forth the darkness contained within and awakens sensations I thought long dead. I do the only thing I know how—fight back.

I don't know if it'll be enough this time.

The walls around me are crumbling, and I struggle to keep myself safe. Am I doomed to repeat the mistakes of my past?

USA Today bestselling author Shannon Pemrick is a full-time slow-burn romantic fantasy author, fuller-time geek, and unrelenting dragon enthusiast. She owns too many novelty mugs, not enough chocolate, and maintains a forbidden love-affair with all things shiny. So, we're now in the conflict city and learning more about Eira, Rai and Eira's friends. We're also learning more about the conflict, Zarda, the military, the rebels and the shamans. Again, the action is great, but so is the building of the story and the relationships within. Again, looking forward to the next book in the series.

The series is interesting so far. Many unanswered questions I look forward to uncovering. My main problem is with the editing and proofreading. I hate having that fourth wall come down while I'm reading because of misspelled or incorrect words. Please make sure that your publisher does a better job if you are not able to correct these mistakes

These stories are so rich and deep in humanity. I love how characters are well-defined and you come to know what their personalities are like and how they react to situations. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to start the next one.

There were definitely some interesting revelations about Eira’s background, battles and traps, deceptions, and plenty of stubbornness to go around. Rai continues to be a favorite.

Eira is as prickly as ever when it comes to Raikidan. She occasionally accepts his helpeirh grace, but usually she’s busy pushing away. Meanwhile the stakes in the war against Zarda keep getting higher.

I had the amazing opportunity to read and review both Destiny and Pieces by Shannon Pemrick. After the first review, I have kept in touch with Shannon and she offered me the chance to read the ARC (advance reading copy) of Pieces. I just had to say yes, I was left with so many questions and I loved the chemistry between Raikidan and Eira. So here I am with a book release post and a book review.

If you would like to read the review for Destiny you can find the link below.

One of the things I loved about this book was seeing the chemistry between Raikidan and Eira grow. They have come such a long way. It is obvious to us readers and the two like each other. But they just need to grow a pair and admit it to each other. When you read over 800 pages of a story (both books) you are bound to see a bunch of up and downs, action, and a couple of omg moments. The relationships Eira has have continued to grow and you can see she is human. She has feelings and she makes mistakes.

Another thing I loved was the author answered some of my questions from book one. Even though book two left me with even more questions. But that seems to be a writers thing. To keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Shannon is really growing as a writer, I am excited that I have watched and followed her on this adventure. I can’t wait to see where Eira and Raikidan will go next. Maybe in the next book the dragon can get a real kiss!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love all the magic, dragons, Elves, and Druids. The story shows what a world would be like if all the old races came back.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little bit less involving than the first, but still good
Reviewed in Italy on December 21, 2016
With Zarda trying to obtain more power through conquests and new menacing experiments, Eira has to continue fighting with all her strenght and will. However that's not the only battle she's taking part. She must deal with her true nature coming to the surface and an even bigger issue: her feelings.

Sadly, this is what I enjoyed less in the book. There was an internal conflict also in the first volume of course, but in this case Eira was ALWAYS moody and short-tempered. She would laugh and enjoy herself just to run away the following moment without a clear explanation. I must admit I was quite annoyed by her behaviour, even though I adored her in Destiny.
Some choices she's made are quite questionable too. She continues saying that they must hurry up because there's no time, but then she does things not so much related with her mission. It doesn't confuse just me, but also poor Raikidan. I feel so much pity for him!

He's changed a lot too: he's started blending in the group, becoming more accostumed to humans' habits and more thoughtful. I like this new aspect, even though my favourite side of him will always be the playful and curious one.

On the other hand I really enjoyed, as usual, the beginning and the ending. The use of flash-forwards is totally cunning and suitable for a book of this genre, since it creates an amazing suspance. Moreover, many details about Eira and Raikidan's past is revealed, making the story more involving. Actually, I must say that I wish there were less parts love-related and more action, because it's what I usually look for in a book.

Anyway I have really high expectations for the last book, since old/new characters showed up and are ready to fight and Zarda is certainly preparing one of his creepy tricks. I'm ready for the Armageddon!

Couldn't wait to read the second book. Overall it was still a very nice book, but getting a bit bored with all the assignments, when all I want to read is how the friendship between Eira and Raikidan continues. But I understand it cannot be all about this, so it is alright. Still loved the story. What took me a bit off is that everyone in the group seems to have another person they feel attracted to, might be a bit too much. But might happen if you are living together. Other than that, good book in the series and still waiting for the next part
