Are you in a TOXIC relationship or trying to recover from one?

Elizabeth waited fifty years to write a searing and honest account about her involvement with a
Big Bad Wolf, a man who sought to control her emotionally, spiritually, and psychically. Elizabeth shares insights drawn from myths and fairy tales to illustrate how mistrusting her perceptions and inner warnings led to folly.

Her book covers it all; from her difficult childhood to a mystical experience, her toxic relationship and subsequent trauma, and her long quest for inner healing. She writes with warmth and compassion about her experiences, occasionally injecting sly humour into the story. She wishes to encourage women who have been through similar experiences so that they, too can grow from survivor to thriver.

“What a courageous story of triumph. I could relate to times in my life when I betrayed my own sense of knowing and experienced deep despair from accepting someone else’s claims of what I should believe. Elizabeth’s book lets us know we are not alone in this experience and provides tools for forgiving ourselves and going on to live a full life.”
- Esther Hart, author of Journey to Personal Freedom and Giggle Factor, a Grownup Fairy Tale

Elizabeth Brown wrote her first story when she was seven years old. Since then, she has written poems, stories, and more than 30 songs. She graduated from Notre Dame University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and English. For three years, Elizabeth volunteered at the NEED Crisis Line, where she learned to listen to callers compassionately and non-judgmentally.

Her various jobs—clerical, market research, retail, and research and writing for special projects—gave her a wide range of experience. Later, she found employment with the Provincial Government.

Now retired, she relishes the opportunity to pursue her passion for writing. For the past ten years, Elizabeth has dabbled in stand-up comedy and volunteers in a charity thrift shop; she enjoys getting acquainted with people in her community.

Having recovered from a toxic relationship, Elizabeth wishes to offer hope and encouragement to women in similar straits.

Elizabeth lives in Canada on Vancouver Island.

Things happen to people in the world that are unimaginable. The general public doesn’t know about them because they are ashamed to speak of what occurred. However, it’s time those stories get told for perspective, empathy and compassion. Have you gone through tough situations? Perhaps can’t bear to talk about what happened? This book will demonstrate that courage is available to you and you can discover life on the other side of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Thank you for telling your story, Elizabeth. May it help others to share their story or to find the help they need to get beyond the unspeakable nightmares.

Reading Elizabeth's personal story brought me back to memories of my own abusive marriage and how difficult it is to see from the inside the depth of traumas inflicted on us. So many people don't understand why others stay in abusive relationships and this explains it. Elizabeth is a true inspiration to women, to help them see what they can't see and feel what they can't feel. Not only a survivor, Elizabeth leads us through hope to self-belief and transformation. An excellent read a unique self-help book.

This book will make you laugh and cry. An inspiring story, which reminds all humans that we can move beyond anything. Well written and hard to put down at times.

What I like most was the sheer joy of reading this book. No, the trauma and sadness is not the joyful part, what is joyful is the triumphant that is so evident throughout this novella. Novella, you say? Well, one cannot rightly call it that, but it is a wonderful story filled book. I adore how the writer bounces along with terrific narrative and jaunty twists of circumstance that put me in a mind to keep reading more. Honestly, so many of these "types" of book are so much "poor me", it is refreshing, to say the least , to read this survivor and rebuilder spirit. I saw much of myself int he writer's story, so much more so to interest me. And yet, I think any thinking person would see a world of deceptive Big Bad Wolves in many strats of life, and so would greatly benefit and be engaged in reading this book. It is VERY well written!

Ella’s story bleeds real. Her story comes from her heart and soul. Indeed, her mission for TOXIC! was to help others. It will. She effectively shares the strategies that worked for her to resolve the very difficult quagmire that was her life for many years. Yes, I recommend TOXIC! The woodcutter is a fitting end to that homegrown inner wolf.
