    I just finished this book and it is good. I am giving it 4/5. Casersis is the Elven king in exile. He has spent thousands of years years wanting a mate but he has yet to find him until Dustin falls literally into him. Dustin is a hard working construction worker is is used to not having a lot and working hard for anything. Hey his life changes when he falls onto Casersis and touches his necklace. That touch sparks his change into an elf. Casersis sense what is happening and virtually imprisons Dustin for his own protection. Casersis does not want that knowledge to fall into the wrong hands like the government. But of course Dustin rebels and fully does not realize the danger that he is in. Casersis is in love with Dustin but Dustin is still adjusting to his new life as an elf. There will be a lot of conversations these two men need to have before they can move forward in a relationship. I want to read the next book.

    This book had promise. Features decent world building even though it leans heavily on traditional elven lore. However, the characters motivations were odd even given the alpha/omega dynamics—which are new for Dustin but never really explained to him.

    The best I can figure is Dustin was supposed to be the poor alpha construction worker and Cass the other worldly rich and soft omega. But Dustin has fits of anger, remorse, and then care? And Cass is a pushover (exactly how did he survive for thousands of years in a human world?). They are both so bipolar in their characters I could hardly keep it straight. And Dustin who is supposed to be so smart is downright idiotic. If someone told me my entire body would change, we don’t know how long it will take, or what that process will look like, and if anyone finds out you’ll become a lab rat, I’d stay my butt in that expensive mansion. Take online classes or something.

    Yes, people have pride and sometimes to the point of stupidity. However, for someone who survived on their own from 16-20, Dustin should be smarter than that. He should not be acting like a spoiled brat.

    Their relationship is odd too. If they were true mates or soul mates and fell in love fast, I can go for that. But given their current situation, and how at odds they were in the beginning all the declarations of love felt forced.

    I am going to read the next novel and hope it settles down and that the characters stabilize. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    So far? Good idea, poor execution.

    What a ride. I enjoyed reading about these guys and getting a more detailed look at Casersis and his life. To see the dynamic between him and Dustin is very intense. There were many tears and some laughs. There were parts that simply broke my heart. I did not realize that this was a to be continued book when I started it, so it does leave you on a state of anxious energy not knowing how these things will turn out. I did really enjoy them and I wished for the best for them both. I can’t wait for the rest to come out so I can learn more and get to see how things progress.

    So exiled elven king Casersis accidently exposes constriction worker Dustin to an elven pendant that rewrites Dustins DNA to elven.

    Casersis doesn't tell Dustin and just drags him about town getting him new clothing and taking him to dinner. At dinner they run into Casersis' nemesis Erastus.

    Casersis needs to keep Dustin's elven status quiet and keep.him protected so his first action is to basically put him on lock down in his home.

    Dustin hates it, they spend a lot of time arguing. They both want to work it out, but they can't figure it out. Which gets kind of old.

    Erastus pops back in and the story is never told about what happened. Im hoping that is in book two.

    I like the characters and the world building but to me there was a lack of action and a lot of frustration with the arguing. And im still unsure why Beth wanted Casersis to run after Dustin towards the end. Dustin doesn't need Casersis assurance that he is loved, he needs to be able to not feel smothered.. I hope book two steps it up.

    This was my first book by this author so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. These two main characters stole my heart though. Cass may be old and a very important/wealthy person in Shadetree but he is terrified that Dustin will reject him. He is very high handed in his ways and has trouble understanding things from Dustin’s perspective which definitely causes them issues in their fledgeling relationship. All Dustin wants to is be given options, to be asked. He doesn’t understand what is happening to him or exactly what Cass wants, but he still feels strangely drawn to the enigmatic man. A very nice first book for me. These two aren’t going to have an easy time of their relationship but I liked the way the author wrote these characters and has them attempting to forge ahead despite their differences. I didn’t realize this was going to be the first in a series, but I didn’t mind the happy for now ending. I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of Erastus. I didn’t really get some of the world building that was done because some things were never really resolved, but it wasn’t enough to detract from the book in my opinion. It might even be something that is explained throughout the series. Whether or not this happens though, I did enjoy the story and will probably read the rest of the series just to see how everything goes.

    Very good start to a series, a pnr with a new take on alternative realities. There’s a lot to take in for the ‘victim’, accident or not, it’s like fate played a part in Cass finding Justin. It’s hot and steamy and full of risks and threat, possible violence, magic and a different type of shifter. You get drawn in and need to read more. Not your garden variety shape shifter story.

    I love the way this book inverts the standard trope of rich Alpha finding their fated omega. In here it’s the omega who is rich and the construction worker alpha doesn’t even know what he is. The way that they meet and the way that their relationship develops makes for a terrific read. I can’t wait to read the next book in this interesting and well written series.

    It's a pretty fun read, it kept me invested enough with the mystery around Casersis. However it was a little too fast paced, I would have liked their relationship to develop a little slower. Dustin's reactions to things were so sped up I hardly had time to grasp how he felt, when he began to move on from the problem. And Casersis, became very one dimensional after falling in love, from a strong imposing figure to a weak kitten.
    I think I was only truly invested about 2/3 of the way in, when a little more of who Casersis is was revealed. That's why this is more of a fun little read, it has plenty of fluff and sweet whispered words with a dash of mystery, not enough to create an in depth story plot, maybe in the second book I will see a little more world and character building.

    This is definitely an interesting series. Mixing together a slightly futuristic world, omega/alpha dynamics, and hidden elves sounds a bit odd but it does work well! There is a decent amount of groundwork that has to be laid for it but that is done without being boring to read in this book and promises to allow for more story in the future books.

    Dustin and Casersis meet by literally colliding into one another, but it binds them together in an unexpected way. With Dustin being someone that Casersis has long been looking for and changes already happening, Casersis quickly whisks Dustin away, whether that is what he wants or not. It puts a major strain on the relationship and sets up the difficult power dynamic of this book. Casersis is ancient and has lots of money and power, so he is used to making unilateral decisions, not to mention he needs to protect Dustin with the things going on. Dustin has been going it alone for a while, is young without much money or power, but prefers to make his own way. They really clash over things when this all comes up, especially because behind it all is the alpha/omega power balance, where Dustin is alpha and Casersis is omega, turning all of it on its head. It is truly complicated and something that comes up more than once.

    That this book chose to being up the issues with the omega/alpha relationship was really interesting as well. As an alpha Dustin feels a need to provide and protect Casersis, while Casersis seeks comfort and acceptance from Dustin. The need can become almost too much, with Casersis not even being able to leave Dustin for work. While it can be true that a person can change priorities in a relationship and want to do less work, Casersis finds he can't even focus on any work away from Dustin, which isn't healthy. Meanwhile Dustin had been independent and suddenly has someone who wants to be around all the time. Again, a possible change in a relationship, but Casersis wants almost unhealthy levels of togetherness. Dustin finds himself needing space and time, even just time where he can do things without it being a rejection of Caseris, which is really difficult and goes against this nature. It puts a strain on things that are trying to develop. It was quite fascinating as usually this type of relationship is shown as no problem, but this story instead really gets into how this is a huge shift and how the codependent need to never be apart can be unhealthy and make lofe difficult to figure out. It is sure to be an ongoing issues in the books moving forward and it will be interesting to see how it gets resolved.

    A well formed start to a series with some intriguing circumstances, this promises to be a good series!
