- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe Empire, #3 in the Filthy Trilogy and #10 in the Dirty Rich series by Lisa Renee Jones is a stunning, captivating thrill ride that concludes the story of The Bastard, aka Eric Mitchell, and The Princess, Eric’s stepsister, Harper Evans. Eric has now officially replaced all previous book boyfriends because he is everything that makes a great alpha male: a handsome, sexy, intellectually brilliant, tattooed, damaged, extraordinarily complicated ex-Seal who knows what—and who—he wants and will go to any lengths to protect the few people he truly loves. His character is so complex and compelling, all other protagonists pale in comparison. And Harper is his perfect foil – first as an antagonist and second as the only woman he’s ever loved. Add in all of the characters we’ve come to love from previous stories in the Walker Security and Dirty Rich series, and it’s a treasure trove for LRJ fans.
The Filthy Trilogy is a dark saga of a toxic, corrupt, and deadly family, with twists, turns, and misdirects that keep you guessing—from the first word to the last—who did what to whom, and why. It is an intelligent, well-written story that articulates the hidden darkness within all of us—greed, jealousy, rivalry, desperation, and revenge. But it’s also a tale of redemption, the longing for acceptance, the struggle to reconcile the dark and light within us, and the fear that the darkness will win. I didn’t just read The Empire, I devoured it because the first two books ratcheted up the stakes so high I couldn’t wait for the answers to all the questions left in their wake. And as astute as I am in figuring out whodunits, Lisa kept me wondering until the very end.
That being said, I hoped for two things I didn’t get in The Empire. First, I was hoping for a terrifying conclusion, a genuine life-or-death confrontation that would bring this story to an unforgettable climax. Lisa gave us that in Grayson and Mia’s story, but I hoped for even more from this one. Although satisfying in many respects, the conclusion—particularly for Isaac (indeed the ‘bad seed’ here) didn’t provide the closure I needed for that character. Ultimately, justice was not served to three characters who played such a major role in attempting to bring Eric and Harper down. Second, although I loved the push-pull, trust-or-can’t trust dynamic between Eric and Harper, not to mention their explosive chemistry, there was a little too much of both for my taste, and it felt too repetitive by the end. There was a little too much navel-grazing, particularly on Harper’s part, which weakened an otherwise strong heroine.
Nevertheless, I’m sure I’ll reread this trilogy because of its intelligence, darkness, and complexity—but mostly because of Eric. I want more of him. As Lisa herself might say, “so much more.” Lisa is a master at romantic suspense, her characters are utterly unforgettable, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFinally we get the epic conclusion of Eric and Harper's story, and just like the previous books in this trilogy, it's not without many twists and turns and what just happened moments! The Empire was the perfect ending to the Filthy Trilogy and this love story! In this book, we finally get to see who is behind everything going on in the Kingston family, the attacks, the threats, and why. We get to watch Eric take the empire down, and we get to watch Eric and Harper become stronger than ever, but not without many difficult moments in between. This book was one wild and crazy ride and I was on the edge of my seat watching it all play out. Every single time I thought I had it figured out, I was thrown for another loop. I will say though, the secret that Harper was holding back? It wasn't as devastating as I thought it was going too be. Sure it was bad, but nothing like she was making it out to be throughout the previous books. I did enjoy watching how strong Harper became in this book though, and how she refused to back down to Eric, or really anyone who stood in her way. She's not the same girl who we met in the beginning of this series, and I absolutely adored the Harper we were left with when this book ended. The Empire was the perfect conclusion to this series, and I loved how Eric dealt with the family once and for all. I feel as if they got everything they deserved in the most beautiful way. This story was intense and quick moving, and wrapped up all of the story-lines in a perfect bow. I am sad to say goodbye to Harper and Eric, but I'm thrilled with how their story ended. If you're looking for a suspenseful romance series, I can't recommend this series enough, especially now that all the books are released!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love Harper and Eric’s story. It is full of drama and action. There love story is very difficult. They have years of drama but their love wins together against all odds. They are each other’s true family forever.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe Empire is the final conclusion to the FILTHY trilogy.
Harper and Eric has yet to crack the codes given to them to solve their problem. They're playing a dangerous game in a minefield full of lies, secrets and deceptions. Secrets that only the Kingston family holds and protects. Thus, them being all a possible suspect.
But it's not only the Kingstons' where secrets exists. It's also in between Harper and Eric. The time is ticking and revelationd are bound to happen one way or another. But will they bith come of of it together and still alive?
There's so many happenings, so many issues that still needs to be solve. Secrets that were buried deep. Will they ever find the answers they need to survive?
I loved that I didn't see where exactly the author will take the story. There's too many possibility to consider. And somehow, it added to the climactic rise of the story. My anticipation is on all high levels and it only heightens in every page turn.
Also, the struggle of both main characters is to be expected. Their back and forth with their emotions affects their mindsets. Slowly, everyday it seems secrets are being divulged and it's not in their favor. But with all of these pressuring both of them, their bond remains intact. They will face their enemies together and they will survive this dilemma the Kingston family tangled them in.
I do recommend this trilogy!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThat went on forever. Do you trust me? Do I trust you? Yes I do.. no I Don't... this was a trilogy that should have been one or two books at best. It just wore me out. All the silly secrets between Harper and Eric also wore me out. The entire story line was just frustrating. I paid for all three books only because it's hard for me not to complete a book after I start it, but I can't tell you how many times I almost skipped to the last chapter to put an end to it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBloody hell..... I'm in the mother of all book hangovers..... I loved the final read in this series.
Lisa Renee Jones is one of my favourite romantic suspense authors and she finished off the Filthy Trilogy much as I'd hoped.
Eric and Harper have had one hell of a time and to see how everything they faced was gonna shape their relationship and finally find out what the hell was behind all that had been going on until now made for good reading.
A couple of things I thought I'd figured out - one I sort of got, sorta... the main threat was fairly obvious but it was the reasons behind it all that stumped me. The secret that left us on tender-hooks at the end of The Princess wasn't quite what I expected and not as awful as I'd imagined it could be. I liked how the tension and suspense was kept up at the start of the book but didn't consume every chapter - and yeah, there was a lot of sex but hey, it's LRJ, and she writes those scenes really well!! :D
I love how this series kinda intertwines with the Dirty Rich books (but you could read the trilogy as a standalone and still understand what was going on, you'd just miss out on knowing who the other characters are and where they fit in to Eric's circle/life) and the addition of the Walker Security team as well as Grayson and Mia added to my overall enjoyment of the reads.
I've heard tell that a certain burly Walker Security team member is gonna be getting his own book and I cannot wait to see who snares his attention!!!
IMHO the Filthy Trilogy is a definite must read, especially if you're a fan of Ms Jones' books. The Empire gets another 5* from me and I look forward to catching up with Eric and Harper further in the Dirty Rich series.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK GREAT TRILOGY
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis trilogy is absolutely freaking great. Empire finished the story with such good interesting twists and turns testing Eric and Harper to their limits. Full of suspense, angst and steamy scenes that only Lisa Jones can write so well. I can't recommend this trilogy enough. I treated myself to the whole thing on audiobook it was an absolute pleasure to listen to too. Very good audio books don't pass these books by you really will miss a truly special read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Story Too Long
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThree books that could have been written in two. Many, many repetitive situations and dialogue that it becomes very boring to read. Took too long to get to a predictable ending.
