Can Duncan the Dishy Tractor driver and Aunt Jayne's love potions mend Leah's broken heart?
ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY: A romantic novelLeah is accused of a crime she didn't commit. Dumped by Adam, the man she planned to marry, she escapes to Aunt Jayne's smallholding in the Kent village of Winkleigh Marsh. Heartbroken and homeless, she strives to clear her name and deal with her emotions.
Jayne treats Leah's unhappiness with herbal remedies, cowslip wine and common sense in equal measure. In return Leah works hard for the delicious home-cooked meals they share. She wrestles with sheep, breaks nails and gets stuck in the mud – learning as much about herself as she does about farming. Soon Leah is happy milking cows, mucking out pigs and falling halfway in love with Duncan, a dishy tractor driver.
Back in London, steps are being taken to investigate what's happened to the missing money. It looks as though the real embezzler must soon be unmasked and Leah will have to choose between resuming her old life or starting a new one.
That's when her problems really start.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2021I wanted an easy, little, feel good read and this book delivered. As an American and a “townie” I loved reading about the country side. I did find myself growing tired of all the descriptions but then again, it’s what made the book so easy to get lost in.
The characters were lovely and easy to relate to. And most of the book made me smile. Yes, the plot was a little predictable, but it was still enjoyable. Overall, it was just what I needed to relax after a stressful week.
If you want a sweet, charming, easy to read book with relatable, just as sweet characters, then I highly recommend this book. And the cows were a show stealer in some spots.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2014Sometimes you just want to read something that entertains. Maybe the plot is pretty predictable. Maybe you figure out who the bad guy is early on. Maybe you know it's going to have a "happy-ever-after: ending. Escape To The Country fits that need to a "T."
I enjoyed getting acquainted with the cast of characters and would be delighted and eager to learn more about how things turned out there on the HomeFarm.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2012Talented writer Patsy Collins, well known for her dazzling short stories published in women's magazines, writes amazing and humorous dialog. So often as a reader, I skip over narrative to find out what characters are saying. Need I say more? Patsy Collins is masterful.
ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY follows financial analyst Leah who has been accused of embezzlement at the company where she works, Profit Margin. Confident that she will be found innocent, she thinks this misunderstanding will be unraveled while she leaves during an investigation. She has another reason to "escape to the country" for a visit with Aunt Jayne at her small farm. The love she and Adam once shared seems to have evaporated. Both of their lives revolve around stressful workplaces. Wanting to sort things out, she's taking a breather.
Adorable Aunt Jayne jokes about fixing Leah up with "a dishy tractor driver who mucks out the pigs." Before she reaches Jayne's farm, she is given the polite right-of-way by a handsome, broad shouldered man with a winning smile. Country guy Duncan is attractive but isn't perfect. Neither is city boy Adam. Can Leah reach a point where she can choose the best man for her?
I highly recommend sweet romance ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY by Patsy Collins to all readers, all ages, and both men and women. It's pure entertainment from a fine author.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2016The country setting was wonderful, I loved learning about farming life, and the fact that Rosemary was milked my hand was really interesting. Dishy tractor driver, Duncan was described well. I loved all the herbal teas Aunt Jayne made, she was a brilliant character. Very well written, I enjoyed the way Patsy Collins contrasted county life with city life, and I was pleased with the ending for Leah. I would highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2012I'd had the week from hell, culminating in a really bad Friday at work so I wanted something to read that was easy and light but not banal and I saw this book and thought it might satisfy...
I wasn't wrong. It's a great story with characters that are written so well that you really care about them. I laughed, I cried and I shouted "no" at them several times as I joined them on their journey. I also got rather hungry with some of the food descriptions!
All in all, I spent a few hours deep in someone else's life, someone else's problems, someone else's joys and yes, the story followed pretty much what I guessed/expected but then that's what I wanted from it. I didn't want a hard to read book full of shocks and surprises. It's a shame it is over and I have to return to my own life! Maybe more from this author could help me!
I just wish that I had an Aunt Jayne to run away to.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2016Although 'Escape To The Country' is mainly aimed at female readers, I found much to enjoy in the book. I could almost smell the countryside as Patsy Collins describes life on the farm. It is well written and with the notable exception of the devious Adam, Leah's partner in the story, the characters are likable. I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2016A beautiful, warm , compelling novel. I found myself completely lost in the world of the story and its characters .There were lovely descriptions of countryside and life on a farm as well as romance and drama. I look forward to reading more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does Aunt Jayne do holidays?
I have read many of Patsy Collins's short stories but this was my first long read of hers. I thoroughly enjoyed - the clue why being in the title - an escape. She painted a brilliant picture of what we dream of as idyllic country life. Superimposed on this backdrop was a gentle romance and a mystery to be solved. I loved the lead characters (not so fond of Adam!) and would be quite happy for a sequel - I am sure there is material!

4.0 out of 5 stars Such fun
There's a thin stream of pure gold to be mined in romantic fiction, and Patsy Collins has tapped into it beautifully. Hunky men, pretty girls, and misunderstandings all define the genre, but lively humour and bubbling fun, that's the gold, I loved this book. Smiled all the way to work on the train, smiled all the way home, sniggered happily more than once. I don't normally read romantic fiction, it annoys me beyond endurance, so maybe she's not the only one out there who has turned the entire slightly tiresome genre on its head and made it fun, but I'm thoroughly looking forward to reading my way through Patsy's list. I had one little quibble with an incident where the engaging Leah gets a little too blonde for comfortable belief but that's the only reason this didn't get a 5 star rating. Forget the romance. The people are fun, the writing is engaging, and anything that can make me smile on my way to work is a rare treat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Escape To The Country
Being an out-and-out James Patterson fan, I wasn't sure at first if this book would appeal to me but, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Patsy has brought a well balanced mix of intrigue and romance into her debut novel which had kept me glued to the page (or, in my case, my thumb firmly fixed to the Kindle page advance button!). Being an ex-Navy man, I was most taken with her reference to 'Cheesie-Hammy-Eggie' - my all-time most favourite meal on board!
Thank you Patsy, I am looking forward to your next offering
