When artist Jericho can’t get over a bad breakup, an art-loving Fae queen sends an imp to the mortal realm to shake him up and get him to start painting again. Jericho’s sadness at the loss of his ex-boyfriend has turned into complicated grief. A year has passed, but he still can’t paint, doesn’t date, and avoids his friends. A sweet, handsome, talented guy, he has turned into a shadow of himself, intertwining the traumatic loss from his childhood with the dissolution of his relationship with his cheating ex. He can’t move on. Every day, he draws further into his pain.

Kenric is an imp, a type of trickster fae. He doesn’t particularly like humans, but thinks his new mission from the Earth Mother will be fun. He enjoys turning humans upside down. When he meets Jericho, he’s beaten and ragged, and Jericho thinks he’s a homeless man. When Jericho takes him in and showers him with kindness, Kenric starts to wonder if he will change Jericho, or if the human will change him.

A m/m romance about grief and joy, tears and laughter, and the healing power of true love.

Sionnach, pronounced SHUHN ukh, is a trans man who enjoys writing steamy M/M romance with flawed characters and veins of darkness. One can’t have light without shadows, and he thinks happiness without some suffering to acquire it is nonsense. True love matters, and things that matter come at cost. Some of his favorite tropes are hurt/comfort, enemies to lovers, and opposites attract. He’s a political junkie and is passionate about animals, the environment, and social justice. These themes often find their way into his books. He lives in Austin, Texas, with his soulmate, seven cats, and a husky. (He/Him)

'I’ll make a fortress of my love, let no one else in. The emptiness Tyler left behind is all I need.
With that vow, the world shrinks. Something changes. I can feel it. The city warps around me, and a door somewhere inside me closes.'

I loved this book. It was such a sweet romance. Jericho was still grieving the loss of his cheating ex-boyfriend even a year after they broke up. His grief, compounded by another loss from earlier in his life, really hollowed him out and left him alone and empty- seemingly overtaking his life. I absolutely loved imp Kenric. I thought he was so cute and cheerful and there was almost an innocence of seeing things through his eyes. He also held his own sorrows. Falling in love was new and foreign to him. I loved seeing these two grow closer and their relationship blossom. This was the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more! 5 stars

Jericho is an artist that loses his muses after a breakup. Kenric is in imp sent to restore Jericho's muse by the fae Queen. Short, simple story about an artist needing a new muse to restore his love of art again. Kenric shows an instant attraction to Jericho, which is interesting. The overall concept of the story was intriguing and well done. I would read this style of story again in the future.

There were hints of comedy in the writing that I enjoyed, like snarky comments and quick wit
(Example 1): "At present, he's jogging in Central Park. Or attempting to jog."

But the writing structure was a little off to me from time to time (Example 2): "He's as pretty a human boy as I've ever seen."

But then there were lines like this and I didn't like them (Example 3): "I like to draw rather ugly people. They have character. But this guy is gorgeous. His glasses give him a refreshing hint of nerdieness. My fingers itch."

I didn't like how degrading it sounds. Sorry, that style didn't sit well with me.

Overall, it was okay for an afternoon read, 2.5-3 Stars. This is a new to me author, unsure if I would read them again.

I found a lot to like in this story: the premise is super interesting, and takes on complicated themes (grief, love, art and inspiration) in thoughtful ways that are at times pointed, witty, sweet, and deeply caring, among a range of other things. I cared about Jerico and Kenric as characters, and I wanted to see what would become of their connection and how being together might be good for them both. Well worth a read.

Jericho & Kenric were as compatible as a mixed species couple could be. I was worried about Jericho and kind of wanted to shake him a bit, gently. Although, I could identify with the heartbreak he experienced and the harsh effects it can have on a person. I'm a big fan of character development and was glad to see that here. Mother Earth for the win- she knew exactly what she was doing. But I'm can't lie, she had me on the fence for a minute there. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

I received this book as an Arc reader and this is my unbiased review.

In this cute Christmas paranormal story, it's the imp who has the steeper learning curve. Jericho is nursing a broken heart and refusing to move on, and Kenric has been sent by the Earth Mother to shake him out of his self-imposed wasteland of brokenness. Kenric thinks it'll be an easy fix ... bed the human and show him the error of his ways so that he can return in time to enjoy some of the winter Solstice festivities. However, he's not prepared either for Jericho's tough-nut-to-crack ways or for his own inexplicable reactions to the human. A slow burn -- for Kenric -- grumpy-sunshine story with a lot of prickly spots and uncomfortable moments brought on by Jericho's advance and retreat behavior, by his dad, and by Kenric's learning how to live with feelings he's never imagined he'd have or wanted to have.

Jericho breaks up with his boyfriend Tyler because he cheated on him. Jericho feels that Tyler is the one so he closes himself off from love. Kenric is an imp and Mother Earth sends him to help Jericho find happiness. While He doing that he falls in love with Jericho. I really enjoyed this book.

I enjoyed this book. Kenric and Jericho are good together. Jericho helps Kenric learn to care about others more than himself and Kenric helps Jericho recover from the past and heal from his grief from both his childhood and present. Together they are better than either is alone. Lola is a great sidekick and Mother Earth is not as callous as she seems. I liked the ending especially and was glad that Connor, Jericho's grieving father, finds happiness as well. I have enjoyed other books by this author and will read more.

The novella is a lovely, sweet, soft romance story with a hint of supernatural to it. It's relatable and enjoyable and was a fun read. I kept getting sucked into it each time I opened it! The character Jericho especially is someone who I think many can feel kindred with. As always, Sionnach's writing is fantastic, the story works at a good pace, and it provided a semi-escape from reality.

3/5 I might just not have been in the mood for this, but it didn’t quite work for me as well as I hoped it would. Infidelity is a hard no for me, so I came into the story immediately having trouble understanding Jericho’s supposedly epic and eternal love for his serial cheating ex (who also has no respect for his job and doesn’t understand/care that a vegan wouldn’t want a leather jacket as a gift, etc., etc.). Recollections of good moments between them were too few for me, so I just found Jericho’s stance a year later frustrating and difficult to actually empathise with (but maybe it makes sense the way his dad is about his mother and how much that annoys Jericho but he’s basically doing the same thing).

Kendric was quirky and marches to a non-human drum, which was mostly entertaining and occasionally landed really poorly—like the slap at the party (which was maybe supposed to seem impish but just seemed juvenile and utterly inappropriate to me). I liked how he had a plan for Jericho and had it fall apart almost immediately as Jericho helped him see the world in another way, not just the other way around.

Lola was adorable, I enjoyed seeing the glimpses into Jericho’s conservation job, his painting, and Kendric’s infectious joy about Christmas and decorations. I appreciated the time jumps to give more time for the relationship to develop in this novella. I enjoyed the ultimate resolution and HEA for these two.

I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.
