Evil Omega (Darkstar Pack Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,108 ratings

Necromancer, supervillain, and… omega?

Silas Northstar is an outcast. A wolf shifter without a pack. A hated and feared necromancer, infamous for killing his entire pack. He aspires to become the true supervillain people whisper he is.

He is also an omega. Heat cycles are a fact of life, but he has no problem finding casual fun with humans to satisfy his needs. He can't imagine that ever changing. He doesn't do lonely, and he definitely doesn’t do feelings. He doesn't need an alpha.

Dean Westlake is a happy-go-lucky alpha who is trying his best to settle into his new pack in a new city. The pack's Alpha, George, is an idiot, but Dean is glad to not be alone anymore. Few packs will accept a second alpha, so he knows his choices are limited. He needs to make this work.

The rumors of the city's supervillain sound far-fetched. He's not worried.

Then the Westlake pack captures Silas. That night he goes into heat. Someone has to deal with it.

Dean gets the honor, and the fireworks begin.

The morning light shows Silas has vanished. Everyone says no one can keep Silas Northstar for long.

Dean vows to prove them wrong.

Please note this book touches on dark themes, contains strong survivors and emotional growth. It is high heat and knotty. There is no mpreg. HEA guaranteed. Although this book is first in a series that follows the same couple, there is NO cliffhanger and it can be enjoyed as a standalone.

From the Publisher

You are supposed to be a supervillian, not a goth boy.
The first thing he had ever heard about Silas Northstar was that no one could keep him for long.
Omegas are supposed to be sweet & submissive. Everything Silas was not.

This book is adorable. There's so much banging but enough of a plot that I didn't get bored. Silas is a total badass. Honestly, so is Dean. I love them. I don't know why I waited so long to read this awesome book. I love it! I love their little found family at the end. They make me happy. 😊

So I don’t want to lower rating because of too much sex, if this had been billed as erotica it would have been fine. However there were at least 7 sex scenes in 204 pgs, some back to back. Yet, if you take those out, I really enjoyed Silas and Dean. Dean was like a puppy with Silas, and exactly what he needed after all his trauma. Silas was a complex and interesting character and although I was very angry with him at one point, it all worked out in the end. I will read the next book as I want to see more of these characters, but perhaps more time out of bed would be good.

S Rodman is a new author to me and I was pleasantly surprised. This story is packed with action, fun and some unexpected twists and turns. No high angst. The only thing I didn't favor was the final chapter. The chapter itself was great, but it felt like it came out of the blue. On the upside: no cliffhanger, but I really missed what happened before. Still, a great story, definitely on my re-read list, so 5 stars.

Spoilers but I think it’s important: The first 50% of this book has one specific tone. It’s like adorable hunky himbo head over heels in love with prickly necromantic eccentric omega. It’s very wholesome and sweet and absolutely full of cuteness. There is some tragic backstory and all that, but I was super into the couple and their dynamic, and loved every second. AND THEN at the 50% mark, it COMPLETLEY went sideways. Suddenly our hunky himbo alpha was captured by some wizard council people, left for dead by his lover, tossed into a COUNCIL SANCTIONED prison that is like levels of hell going from a risqué lounge to a strip club to a sex club to a BDSM dungeon to the bottom where he is tossed into a gladiator fighting pit to suffer, be beaten often, hear people get raped, go through intense emotional turmoil and suffering, etc. Like WHAT?!?!?! It hit me completely by surprise. It went there with no warning at all not even a one liner like “gee I hope we don’t get caught by the wizard council because I heard they have a horrific sex dungeon/gladiator pit and I’d hate to end up there” like no warning AT ALL. Then, of course, they escape and it’s over and our hunky himbo decides he’s not angry about it at all anymore. He does have some justifiable fears and anger about the way his lover left him in a lurch (supposedly because his lover was so arrogant he just assumed he’d be able to free Dean after a day but spoiler alert it takes a lot longer than a day and required Silas to seduce and sleep with the leader of the sex dungeon off screen) but he gets over his anger like right away, which would have bothered me but honestly I wanted that part of the book to be over with, like a bad dream. It’s just that I wish the author had warned me. I didn’t hate the book, but I also wish I could enjoy the first 50% as a whole book and not get hit by the trauma train.

It could have used a professional line edit, but it's certainly not badly edited. I enjoyed that, despite having the standard (kinda toxic) omegaverse shifter hierarchy it was actually quite good at keeping things in the healthy masculinity and healthy fem-boy territory.

This quality smut with soild villians and a well paced plot. If that's what you're looking for, go for it.

This was a quick, fun story that I enjoyed more than I thought I would. It's nice to find an alpha/omega shifter story where the alpha treats everyone with respect. The banter was hilarious. Thoroughly enjoyed Silas and his antics.

This doesn’t have a lot of plot, at least, not outside of the romance, but it’s really good! A good, smutty little book, and I think it was a bit meandering to establish the MCs’ bond. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Despite a VERY abrupt ending, I really liked this story. The characters are intriguing and likable but the details about the world could be flushed out more. I have a feeling this series could be one book and it’s just been split into three. The book just ended but it felt like I’ve only read 1/3 of a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I just love this book!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 11, 2022
I’ve just done a re-read of this book, and have been reminded of why I adore it. I’m not usually a huge fan of ABO dynamics, as I really dislike the characterisation of omegas as weak, powerless and vulnerable to misuse by others.

In Evil Omega, S. Rodman has turned the idea of an omega on its head. Silas is smart, powerful, funny and resourceful. He’s been terribly misused in the past by those who ought to have cared for him, and has responded by building his infamy as a form of protection. Silas Northstar is a name to be feared, but is also a scapegoat to be blamed for all the ills in the world.

Dean Westlake is not your typical alpha. He’s kind, mild mannered and nurturing. When Silas and Dean meet the connection is immediate, each finding their complement in the other. In a romance, the most important thing for me is to feel and believe the connection between the main characters, and you get that in abundance in this book. From the instant they meet it is obvious that Silas and Dean belong to each other, and though their journey is difficult, there wasn’t a single second that I doubted that they were a pair.

The times when it is just Silas and Dean are just scrumptious. Their conversations are fluid, they spark off each other’s humour and the way they play is gorgeous. Silas is like a wounded animal, desperate for some love and affection, but fearful of being hurt. Dean has the perfect nature to comfort and reassure Silas, and to provide a solid base for him to cling to. Dean is in no way intimidated by Silas, nor does he have any desire to subjugate him. He admires Silas, is proud of him, and is more than willing to be the supporting act to Silas’ shining star. Their chemistry is electric, and the sex is off-the-scale burning hot!

The content of this book is high for its length, you definitely get good value! The action is fast-paced, the dialogue witty and we end with some beautiful found-family dynamics. I am so delighted that this story is going to be continued in Evilest Omega. I desperately want to spend more time with Silas and Dean, their growing pack, and in this world in general.

I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for shifters, heat sex that is 🔥🔥🔥, a bit of action, a sprinkling of magic, a load of laughs and finding out how easy it is to herd zombies (not very!)

As always, check the trigger warnings.

I love the way S. Rodman flips the traditional ideas of sweet soft omegas and tough alphas around in this book. As a woman I have been treated like Silas has where you get judged more harshly when you don’t fit into societies ideas of how you are supposed to behave. As well as making some very interesting points about how we often feel that we need to conform this is also a terrific, fun read that I enjoyed a lot. It combines a bunch of genres that I enjoy and S. Rodman balanced them well. I really hope that there will be more books from this world.

The chemistry and excitement between silas and dean is one to die for, they love each other without a second thought, we are getting mothman babies for the next book?! I'm so excited wish silas and dean have a bunch of them of course after all the dark phase they'll be going through in the next volume.
Dean sure feels like the good innocent person to heart.
He's gullible, cute, and fluffy like a smiley golden retriever.
That's what he is he's a golden retriever.
