Fated Souls (The Fated Saga Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 152 ratings

Leorah James is your average, single woman. Works in a coffee shop, drives a beat-up car, watches TV with her cat, and lives a very ordinary life in rural Minnesota among humans. On the outside, you’d never know that the entirely-typical woman hides a secret.

Leorah is a dragon-shifter. Not just any dragon shifter, but a pink dragon shifter.
Pink?
Yes, pink.

Unlike her dragon counterparts, she’s smaller, cannot fly, doesn’t breathe fire, and is not very intimidating at all. In her home kingdom of Anarach, she is bullied, tormented, and hated. So, she chooses to live simply, and blend in with humanity.

Until a cute, but mysterious stranger enters the shop where she works. And he knows exactly who, and what Leorah is hiding. Gabriel O’Donnell will help uncover who she is, and teach her what she’s capable of. All the while a dark, ominous force that hasn’t been seen in centuries threatens everything Leorah holds dear.

Together, will they succumb to the darkness? Or will they fight in the shadows, and discover just who Leorah is fated to be?

Fated Souls is a breath of fresh air. Urban fantasy is a saturated genre with so many books that all read like one another. Fated Souls steps away from the cliche elements of the genre while staying true to the heart and soul of urban fantasy - a modern, relatable heroine with whom they reader can truly connect, one with flaws and insecurities but an inner strength that gradually shines through as she develops within the story. This story has it all - humor and sarcasm, rejection and isolation, hope, adventure, romance, and dragons that'll change the way you see pink forever.

I came across this book by chance. The cover caught and held my attention. I usually base a book by its cover then the description. I one-clicked
right away. This book did not disappoint. The characters were well written and extremely likeable. The plot kept me interested and it was so hard to put down. This story pulls you in and you never want to let go. I read a lot and i know a really good book when you read it and months, heck even a year later, and you can still fully recall the story and it stays with you. This book did that for me. I love supernatural, paranormal type stories so this meshed with genres I adore. Pick it up and give it a go, Sarah Skye does not disappoint.

Oh. My. GOODNESS. I thought that book would never end. I can't remember that last time I struggled this hard and long to finish a book; especially a first addition!! This book came to me highly recommended, but it was just TOO LONG and TOO UNEVENTFUL.

Firstly, the constant struggle to decipher WHAT the author was trying to say every other page due to grammatical, spelling, and overall ERRORS grated on my nerves in a way I simply COULD NOT ignore, despite my effort pretending it didn't exist.

I normally try not to let things like grammar errors bother me, especially on first books, because the author is likely just starting out and so focused on telling his/her story that they are not as concerned with going back and editing their works. But with this book being as long as it was, with so many errors that made much of what I was reading hard to understand. It was just too much.

Secondly, with regards to the plot, for being such a long book, everything seemed very fast-paced. The characters wasted no time revealing all their secrets; WHO they are, WHAT they are, who they're associated with, what they can do. It's like there was just NO SECRETS.

Also, I feel like many of the characters presumed to know a lot more than they did, especially when it came to Leo. EVERYONE presumably knew EVERYTHING about Leo, but couldn't really clue her in on ANYTHING, because—guess what?!—they actually didn't know DIDLY SQUAT about what she could really do! Posers.

This wasn't really my cup of tea, being as long and seemingly uneventful as I found it to be. However, I agree with the friend that recommended it to me that it would be a good choice for those who are looking for a dragon-fix. It isn't so "old-fashioned" as many dragon-based books are. Leo is fairly modernized and learning human ways. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then by all means, PICK IT UP!! I think it's a 50-50 split whether you'll like or dislike this book. Decent odds. Good luck!

This is about Leorah's journey finding out who she really is and it is amazing. I was pulled in from the beginning. The twists and turns keep you on your toes. I also love the length of this book. Sometimes it feels you are just getting to the good part..then the book is over and you're left impatiently waiting for the next one. This is not the case with fated souls. The details and storyline are wonderful. I am excited to see where leorah's relationships with Maxxus and Daniel are going to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story well worth the read
Reviewed in Canada on March 16, 2019
I absolutely loved this book! It is a bit of a different take on dragons and I love Leorah! There are lots of twists and turns but kept me reading until all hours of the morning until it was done lol. Now I have to say that while I really like Gabriel I absolutely love Maxxus! I'm really hoping she ends up with him instead. The shadow realm is also a very interesting concept. It's so great to see Leorah get a group of friends who rally around her and do whatever they can to help especially since she grew up with no one but her brother and grandfather showing her kindness, well except Maxxus of course but she doesnt seem to remember that lol I cant wait to read the rest of this series so I'm off to buy them now lol I'm sorry if this review doesn't tell much about the book I just dont want to give any spoilers

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I always love a strong female lead, and Leo is definitely that! Watching her develop and grow through the book was good, i found it interesting to observe the way her previously formed relationships influenced her decisions, as well as her natural empathy.
Couldn't put it down and very excited to see where the second book will take us x

4.0 out of 5 stars Une bonne intrigue surnaturelle
Reviewed in France on November 19, 2016

5.0 out of 5 stars This Author promises to take you into the darkness and bring you home satisfied!
Reviewed in Canada on September 19, 2017
This is the beginning of what promises to be a fun series! Leorah is a simple Barista with a huge secret! She is a dragon shifter with a problem or three! She is pink, can not fly, and has no magic to speak of. What she does have is more than enough spunk and sass for any ten dragons! The writing is witty and humorous with fast ever changing dialogue! The characters are well developed and show depth as the story moves on. The story grips the reader holding you in your seat almost against your will!
