Find Them Dead: A Realistically Sinister Crime Thriller (Roy Grace Book 16) Kindle Edition
Detective Superintendent Roy Grace unearths a powerful criminal network in the sinister crime novel Find Them Dead, by award winning author Peter James.
Ending his secondment to London’s Met Police, Roy Grace gets a tip-off about a drugs mastermind operating out of Brighton. On his first day back in his old job, he is called to a seemingly senseless murder.
Gradually, Grace’s investigation draws him into the evil sphere of an utterly ruthless drug dealer on trial. A man prepared to order the death of anyone it takes to enable him to walk free from court.
Sitting in the jury is Meg Magellan, whose daughter's life is being threatened by a stranger who tells her that if she ever wants to see her alive again, it is very simple. At the end of the trial, all she has to do is make sure the jury says just two words . . . Not guilty.
Although the Roy Grace novels can be read in any order, Find Them Dead is the sixteenth title in the bestselling series. Discover more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Left You Dead.
Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"This is police procedural writing of the highest order." —The Providence Journal on Need You Dead
"Not since Judith Rossner’s Looking for Mr. Goodbar has a novel so wrenchingly portrayed the perils of looking for love in all the wrong places. . . . The action is fast and furious, but, as in all novels in this series, it’s held together by the unflappable character of Superintendent Grace. James has won WHSmith’s Best Crime Author of All Time award and the British Crime Writers’ Association’s Diamond Dagger award. Not to be missed." —Booklist starred review of Dead at First Sight

- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2020Damn you Peter James, you’re doing it again.
Fast paced novel, intriguing plot and compulsive reading. Then you leave me hanging for another 12 months. I’ve a good mind to banish you to some remote island off the north coast of France. Perhaps you will then write more quickly.
Seriously, if I have a criticism, I felt the ending of the trial was a bit weak. However, the potential demise of the Pewe has me hooked.
Keep up the good work and stay safe.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2020If you are expecting a Roy Grace mystery, you will be disappointed in Find Them Dead. Roy, Glenn Branson, Norman Pottinger, Pewe all appear in the book, layered into the story, it seems to cater to those readers who have enjoyed the Grace series over the years. None of the usual characters really adds to the story, and I found them an unnecessary add on, as though Mr. James patched them in after the fact. That is not to say that this isn't a good book because it is! If it had been published as a stand alone novel, readers' views would be different, I think. This is a courtroom drama with Meg, a juror, as the star. She is a widow with only a daughter left to her after an accident killed her husband and son. Newly made redundant from a good paying sales position, she receives a jury summons. Her daughter, Laura, is on a gap year in South America, and this summons looks to be an opportunity to do something interesting before seeking a new job. The story is a damning look at the criminal justice and judicial system, not just in the UK, but in general. Lawyers are players on a stage, witnesses carve testimony to suit the side they are testifying for, jurors are less interested in meting out justice than getting home to personal plans they had made. Twelve Angry Men is alluded to (one of my favorite films), and it has a real place in the book. Mr. James has a lot to say in Find Them Dead, but he didn't need his regular cast of characters to do so. Once I set aside my expectations, I really enjoyed this novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2020Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI really enjoy Peter James and the Roy Grace series, but this one was just meh. Roy grace and the associated characters felt like an afterthought in this book. They added nothing to the main story line and the one story line solely related to them (the relationship between Pewe and Grace) was simply left hanging. This would have been better off as a stand along book rather than trying to shoehorn it in as part of the Grace series.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2020I missed Roy Grace not being as involved in the storyline as much as usual, this one wasn’t really a mystery. Much more of the story was from the view of the woman who was on the jury.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2020As with every Roy Grace book, no, every Peter James book, there are twists and turns and feelings of sympathy and some anxiety. This book is a departure in the Roy Grace series where Roy is very close to the background. It also takes us away from heavily involved police work and into the world of the courtroom. However it is a classic book in the Roy Grace series in the sense that you are left anticipating the next installment. Peter James never lets us down and once again delivers a beauty! Thank you sir!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2020This was a real page turner that I finished almost without putting down in two days. The plot was spellbinding. The characters felt like people I know (vicariously, of course). If you like police procedural novels that are exciting and captivating, set in England then you can’t do any better than this. Bravo, Peter James!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2020I have had this audiobook pre-ordered for a while, something I always do with these Roy Grace books. Peter James is a fantastic writer and Roy is a great character.
Roy’s been on secondment to London and the Met. In that role he finds out about a drug trafficking ring that brings drugs in using classic cars. He passes the tip on and Border Patrol finds a Ferrari with drugs. The truck driver is arrested and an interesting courtroom drama ensues. In fact, this is more courtroom drama than Roy Grace et al and a police procedural. Good thing I like a good trial story. (Steve Cavanagh’s work comes to mind.) But I like Roy Grace better and, therefore, I could only give this four stars. It’s still very good.
Roy does have his run-ins with his boss, a real jerk who deserves his comeuppance. And what’s going on with Bruno? I think I wrote that after the preceding book, too.
The narration by Daniel Weyman was very well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 stars. Another great read.
4 1/2 stars. This is the 16th book in James' excellent Roy Grace series. This one was a little bit different from his usual police procedurals as it had a compelling court procedural at its core. Roy has been seconded to the Met but on his return to Sussex, he has to deal with a murder case. Meg Magellan has had an unhappy five years after the tragic accident that claimed the life of her husband and son. Her daughter Laura is taking a gap year and is off to South America on an adventure with her friend Cassie and Meg will be alone for the first time since the accident. Her job is over as her company has relocated and she does not want to make the move. While she waits for a possible new job, she is looking forward to the jury duty she has been called up for. She feels it is her civic duty and will give her a change of pace and scenery. But this is a drugs case with some very menacing people who will stop at nothing to get the verdict they want. Soon Meg is made aware that she is under constant observation and that her daughter Laura could be in grave danger if she doesn't do what they want. But how to change the minds of the jury in a case that seems to point at the obvious guilt of the men charged? And what will happen to Laura is she fails? Roy Grace has a peripheral role in this novel but it was a very interesting book all the same. James is a wonderful storyteller and weaves a complicated web that keeps the reader interested and engaged until the last page. Another great read.
