Finn's Fantasy: Maine Men, Book One Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,798 ratings

A secret desire

By day, Finn builds houses on the coastline of Maine. Afterhours, Finn dreams of the hot older guy who walks his chocolate lab on Goose Rocks Beach. The man of his dreams ticks all his boxes. Salt and pepper hair. Strong jawline. Blue eyes.
His dream man is perfect fantasy material. As for actually speaking to him?
As if. Their paths won’t ever cross, and the guy is probably straight.

A new chapter

Recently divorced Joel is finally living as a gay man, but he’s not sure he’s ready to jump into a relationship. That doesn’t stop him from noticing his new contractor’s muscular build, hewn from hard, physical work, or his storm-colored eyes. Or the way he wears his tool belt slung low on his hips. The icing on the cake? There’s more to Finn than good looks. Maybe he’s the perfect guy to share long walks on the beach and warm nights in front of a fire.

But it’s been twenty years since Joel was with a man. While he’s not forgotten how to flirt, he’s nervous about making a move.

Especially with Finn.

Easy read, zero angst

Easy read, zero angst
Finn's Fantasy is the first book in K.C. Wells' Maine Men series. This first book is about Finn, a young carpanter who watches a handsome man walk his dog every day on the beach. And that said man, Joel, who's recently divorced and finally lives his life as a gay man. The story was rather sweet and simple. Two guys meet, one hires the other to build him a new deck, they hit it off nicely as friends and their mutual attraction leads to more. The only twist in this book is Joel's struggle to come out to his kids and the two men's reluctance to trust the other would want commitment. So, all in all, it was a very low angst sweet romance, with a 4/5 heat factor and pretty detailed and usual bedroom scenes. Finn's character was sweet and funny and his group of friends, the Maine Men this series is about are a great bunch of characters. Because this book is the start of a new series I think a lot of emphasis was put on jumpstarting the universe and introducing characters that had nearly anything to do with the happenings of this particular book. I would say the author intended this book to be a teaser for the whole series and that resulted in a lack of depth in the actual story. Finn's character, for example, was very poorly built. We got to know nearly nothing of him apart from his group of friends while the focus was mainly on Joel. Joel, a divorced dad, starting over his life to live true to himself, was a more deeply depicted MC. His struggle with his situation and his relationship with his kids were the parts that mad this story rather interesting than boring. In my opinion, this book was a good, easy read with almost zero angst, a cute dog and hot scenes.

I am the survivor of an age gap relationship (we became a couple when I was 52 and he was 69). We had a wonderful 26-year relationship until, at the age of 95, he was taken from me by cancer. As a result, I am drawn to age gap m/m relationship stories on Kindle.

"Finn's Fantasy" is by far the best of such I have read at this point (I am now 92). A beautiful story of Finn (25), a carpenter on a team of builders of a hotel on the coast of Maine. As he works daily, he eyes a beautiful man who daily walks his dog on the beach. He becomes almost obsessed with his newfound fantasy "love."

Joel (42) is new to the area. Recently divorced from Carrie, his wife of 20 years, and Joel now lives in a rental which he is able to purchase from the owner who is wanting out of the rental business. Joel and Carrie are parents of two teenagers, Nate, who is angry, and Laura, who are unaware of the reason for the divorce---Joel is gay. Although Carrie and Joel have remained close friends, they have yet to discuss with their children the reason for their amicable divorce.

Finn and Joel finally meet and when Joel needs a repair on deck at the back of the house, Finn is employed to rebuild it completely. And thus begins real story of Finn and Joel. Their getting to know each other brings humor---I laughed out loud on more than one occasion---pathos, family closeness, resolution of divided family, and strong love binding together Finn and Joel.

I highly recommend this beautiful story!

Start of the Maine Men series: a group of gay or bi or finding themselves guys who have known each other since school days. There are eight: Finn, Levi, Noah, Aaron, Ben, Dylan, Seb and Shaun. These men are sweet, outrageous and deserving. I can’t wait to read the next one about Ben and his former nemesis in H.S.
Finn Anderson who is almost 26yo has watched this older man walk his dog along the beachfront hotel he’s helping to build on Goose Rocks Beach, Maine. Finn is convinced that he is straight and wouldn’t be interested in a younger gay man like himself. What Finn doesn’t know is that Joel is a 42yo newly divorced man because he finally came out to his wife of 20 years. Talk about guts! Fortunately, his Ex, Carrie is a good friend after all that but Joel is afraid to tell his kids why they got a divorce. That will become a problem, of course.
This book was really well-written with fascinating characters, but it was very slow in the beginning to me. Happy to say that Finn’s fantasies kept me reading until they finally became reality. The ending is great and the author has reminded the reader at the end who these other guys were and what they did for a living, hinting a direction their books might go. Love Carrie and Joel’s children Nate and Laura. Even think Joel’s sister, Megan is a hoot. And you won’t forget Bramble! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews. If you like older man/younger man romance, you will truly enjoy these guys. That cover is a perfect depiction of Finn too…

I don't do spoilers. I love KC Wells. One of my all time fave series by all MM authors is Learning to Love. This series is going to rate up there too. I spent vacations & later summers & went to college in Maine & now my family lives there, so really wanted to read this. I got a couple of pages in when the freak out started. My summers were spent in Ogunquit. Those clubs are real. I worked at one the summer of 1984 (same owners.) My mom knows the owners of MaineStreet & they help run a fabulous charity for underprivileged kids in Northern Maine. It gets weirder. When I got out of college, I worked at Village by the Sea in Wells until I moved to DC. We held the rehearsal dinner for our wedding there in 1994. Becky's & Wolff Farm are real too, although I've never been. We are headed to see family in 2 weeks to see my family. Convinced my hub to go to Becky's. Story is great. Can't wait to read every story to get the HEAs for all the guys & also see if KC slips more of my history into them. FYI, Ogunquit is one of the top LGBTQ vacation spots on the East Coast behind the Keys & Provincetown. It's also great for families. Beautiful beach & plenty to do there & in York. READ THIS BOOK!

I hadn't read anything by the author before, but this sounded like it could be a good one.

And it was a good story, however, aside from Finn's surprise dinner for Joel on Joel's new deck, the story line was very predictable.

But a good, fun and easy read nonetheless!

5.0 out of 5 stars Two good men with full lives , looking for love & commitment, find each other & unconditional love

Loved this book . Mid twenties carpenter Finn & recently divorced early forties Joel. Two guys longing for the real thing & like most of us shy & afraid to put themselves out there . Their story develops slowly , seeing each other from a distance . Joel is Finn’s fantasy & he’s convinced it will never be more than that . The sweet longing between them becomes a character in itself . Joel’s family situation is integral to the story line . Like a lot of gay men of his generation he married to hide his real self . He’s a good dad & has a warm & mutually supportive relationship with his ex wife . He is finally starting to live his reality . Finn is a hard working likeable guy who has a circle of friends , some gay some straight . The Maine men are tight & there for each other . I was sucked into their story & loved the way they slowly found each other . I’m a mature man who has been the reluctant & then willing object of the affections of a younger guy . Like Joel, I did not believe such a thing was possible . This story was rich in detail with interesting side characters to support the story line . Beautifully written . Their love story so appealing & the characters so real , I recently read it for the second time . I’m looking forward to the next book in the series , Ben’s Boss , & hope that Finn & Joel put in an appearance. Finn’s Fantasy . Highly recommended.
