Rogues & Gentlemen: Book Ten
AMAZON UK Kindle Storyteller Awards 2018 "Romance Reads You Can't Miss" Listed in the top 20 from over 6000 entrants.
When the beautiful Lady Isabella Scranford finds herself in the family way and her lover refuses to do the honourable thing, she knows her life is at an end. With a reputation for being a cold-hearted bitch, there will be no sympathy for her, only shame and ridicule.
Finding that even her best - and only - friend refuses to be associated with her any longer, Isabella decides she cannot go on and makes a fateful decision.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This story blew me away. I have never gone back and bought a book I've read through the Unlimited program before. My reading material is vast, from politics to history to mysteries to Booker Man and Novel Prize books and the classics, and in between it all I read romance novels. I've read thousands in my lifetime and this was a wonderful and simply remarkable book.” ~ Amazon customer review
Henry Barbour is known locally as the Bear of Barcham Wood.
Living alone in the vast and decaying splendour of Barcham Place, surrounded by wilderness and woodland, he inspires such tales of madness that no one will go near the once grand house. But when a filthy and frightening man rescues Isabella from drowning, she begins to believe her fate has taken an even darker turn.
Yet appearances can be deceptive, and an unlikely bond is created between two damaged souls who need to hide from the world.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This book had all the components of a fantastic read. Imperfect people which made them perfect characters. Great storyline, details flushed out. No loose ends which I highly appreciate. A complete book with a worthy epilogue.” ~ Amazon customer review
As Isabella comes to understand the meaning of compassion, she begins to realise that the most important things in life are not at all what she expected them to be.
The tenth book of the acclaimed Rogues & Gentlemen historical romance series from Emma V Leech, the multi-award-winning Amazon Top 10 romance writer. Author of fan favourites such as Flaming June and Last Man in London, both listed in the 20 'Romance Reads You Can't Miss' in the Amazon Kindle Storyteller Awards 2018.
**** Warning: This book contains a careful selection of quiet determination, resolute tight-lipped-ness and (almost) insurmountable levels of tension. Although coupled with the presence of occasionally descriptive sexual encounters, we are very pleased to highlight that this book - and series - is in no way verging on erotica. ****
The Rogues & Gentlemen series can be enjoyed as stand-alone novels or as part of the wider series. If the full series appeals, the suggested – but by no means essential - reading order would be:
• Book 1: The Rogue
• Book 2: The Earl's Temptation
• Book 3: Scandal's Daughter
• Book 4: The Devil May Care
• Book 5: Nearly Ruining Mr Russell
• Book 5.5: Winter's Wild Melody
• Book 6: One Wicked Winter
• Book 7: To Tame a Savage Heart
• Book 8: Persuading Patience
• Book 9: The Last Man in London
• Book 10: Flaming June
• Book 11: Charity and The Devil
• Book 12: A Slight Indiscretion
• Book 13: The Corinthian Duke
• Book 14: The Blackest of Hearts
• Book 15 Duke and Duplicity
• Book 16 The Scent of Scandal
• Book 16.5 The Christmas Rose
• Book 17 Melting Miss Wynter
• Book 17.5 The Winter Bride, a Rogues & Gentlemen Novella
Happy reading! And please do leave a review if you can – it would mean the world to hear what you enjoyed most about the book.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2024This novel has all the complicated components of a beautiful & remarkable story plot. Its stunning, & totally unexpected in this genre. Like other reviewers have stated it "It blew me away!" This novel has simplest, complexity, warmth, compassion, strength, loyalty, & of course love & desire.
What makes this plot a wonderfully remarkable book is the imperfect characters that are written with such detail; that you feel like you have walked into the book itself. I agree there are no loose ends in this saga. They cover all the era trappings, that each sex is required for the time. They learn how to coexist with each other. Both characters learn how to respect, admire & love each other to the core of their existence. I would love a movie adaption of this novel. Who would the actors be?
When the beautiful Lady Isabella Scranford is forced by her damanding, pretentious mother to find any means to get a husband. Lady Isabella has gone to far. She know finds herself in the family way & the violent, Earl who promised her marriage if she gave her virginity to him has refused to do the honorable thing. Isabella knowns she is no longer considered a Lady in society eyes. She didn't expect that her own mother would throw her out & lock the gates to her way of life.
Lady Isabella has the horrific reputation for being a cold-hearted bitch within the ton. Judgmental, gossip minded of others tragedies. She knows there is no sympathy for her predicament, only shame and ridicule. Did she think she had any true friend that would associate themselves with a fallen lady. Isabella decides she cannot go on & makes a fateful decision. Can she be saved?
Henry Barbour is known locally as the Bear of Barcham Wood. He lives alone in the vast & decaying splendour of Barcham Place, surrounded by wilderness which inspires such tales of madness that no one will go near the once grand house. Just the way that Henry likes. Alone to his drawings, & madness for painting days on end. Henry finally takes a break from his hypnotic state where he is takes his filthy & unrecognizable body to his peaceful wilderness to discover a drowning woman. He knows what she has done. But can this filthy & frightening man rescues Isabella from drowning & killing her & the life inside of her in time? Appearances can be deceiving but can an unlikely bond be created between two damaged souls who need to hide from the world. Can love & desire be filled to help them deal with their fears of society? Read this beautiful story.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2021I usually don't like pregnant or bad-girl-redeemed heroines, but this was not like any other I have read and done so well that I very much enjoyed it. I jumped into the series with this book, so perhaps there is more evidence of Isabella's bad attitude/behavior in previous books, but here there is just enough for you to get a glimpse of it before her world drops out from under her and everything changes. This helped for me, as she was presented as an unlikeable character but not so much that you couldn't feel for her. And this book is all about the feels. There are a few moments of "spice" but they are not graphic and go with the emotion of the moment rather than providing "heat" per se. And in a way that is what kept me from giving it a full 5 stars when most would likely rate it as such. Being on the spectrum, I love seeing autistic characters in romance and Leech's portrayal of Henry was very well done and realistic---which was both incredible and a little problematic for me. Henry has such a child-like innocence or fragility sometimes that it was a little difficult to think of him in a smexy way. Now I know, and it is pointed out, that he is not actually child-like and is a gown man with all the intelligence and emotional capacity of any adult, but it was still a bit difficult for me at first to be comfortable with that side of things ( though the author does give the characters and the reader plenty of time for the relationship to develop). This wasn't because is isn't written well either, because it is. It is hard for me to say why, but it was a bit of a challenge for me and may be for others also. Pergaps because it was such a special and different sort of hero,, it was hard for me to get past my preconceived notions of romance, but that is not to say Henry did not become a wonderfully romantic hero. And all that said, I was extremely emotionally invested in the story and didn't want to put the book down. As their relationship moved along, I kept waiting for the big conflict and when it came I was very pleased that it was woven in so well and not done with the big drama that can sometimes be found in the genre (though I love this genre and sometimes love a good villainous plot, I was glad that wasn't how thing played out here).
I definitely plan to read more from this author, likely going back to read the whole series (or maybe going directly to Gabriel's story first and THEN go back 🤭)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2019This was my 7th book by the author, and my favorite. I used so many emotions reading this story. I started out not liking the h and wondered how or if the author was going to make me like her. She was rude and into herself and treated everyone around her horribly. This author had me feeling sorry for her after only a few chapter's.
The H is a big and scary man and has a problem being around people. When this story takes place, what he had wasn't diagnoised yet (autism). These two helped each other and I enjoyed the conversations and how they worked through their problems. The friends being added, with their own problems was special and heart warming.
There is lovemaking, within marriage and heat level 3.5-4 out of 5. Because I felt a connection to them, it was filled with passion and not vulgar. There is one described foreplay that was rated higher, but only once.
The struggles they went through was emotional and filled with suspense wondering how they would get through it with the way he could or couldn't handle a situation.
What a unique story line and I hated to see it end. We are treated to an epilogue 7 -8 years in the future which warmed my big Polish heart. I can't improve on the blurb, just highly recommendiing this emotional journey of two souls helping each other in more ways they could imagine. Great secondary character's too. No cheating, no cliffhanger, wonderful journey to HEA too. (ljb)

5.0 out of 5 stars an unexpected hero and heroine
A different book from the first Rogue and Gentlemen. I never imagined that Isabella, a scathing character from the WICKED WINTER, could be the Heroine of a book, and the complexity of Henry and Isabella relationship is very much fascinating and well rendered. Absolutely recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommend
I’ve read most of the books in this series and enjoyed them all. This one didn’t disappoint. I especially liked it because it took a totally different path than the previous stories. It was sort of a Regency version of Beauty and the Beast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming story
A story where broken and so called "odd" people find themselves through love for each other....this is a story that makes you believe in the goodness of people...a story that tells that everything is achievable if you have the love of your life and good friends with you. A story that makes you feel good...I enjoyed it, loved it!
- Hoener, BirgitReviewed in Germany on March 7, 2020
4.0 out of 5 stars More please!
The story starts right in the middle of it, with Isabella, an initially not-so-likeable female protagonist, being thrown out by her cold-hearted mother. How she meets Henry and Jack, and how she adapts to Henry's ... peculiarities, is heartwarming, and the story is brilliantly told. So we have fairly realistic protagonists, a good plot, an interesting era, and a great narrator - I couldn't wish for more in a book, apart from it not ending! There was no nail-biting suspense, but enough of a page turner that I could not (or rather did not want) to stop reading until I came to the last word in the story.
I do want more of this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Henry and Isabella
I only started reading this book convinced I would only read the first chapter.....but I couldn't stop reading until a finished it!I came in with preconceived ideas about what I was going to read and I was blown away, instead. Lady Isabella unlike many others heroines was not likeable in the beginning but her character developed and grew throughout the story and we couldn't not roote for her. Hefty what a unpredictable character and unique H. At first I was confused about him,(this is my first book of the series) but throughout the book we get to peal all his layers and understand him and love him. So refreshing to read about a H and h with flaws and now I can't wait to start on the first book of the series. Fantastic plot, unique characters, fast paced and packed with action, intrigue, friendship and red hot romance. Highly recommended
