Forgotten (The Lost Children Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Eight strangers with mysterious tattoos, missing memories, and unique paranormal powers. "Mind-blown!"
Four months ago, Lena woke up in a dark alleyway with no recollection of who she is. The only clues to her past are a mysterious tattooed symbol and a supernatural power: the ability to see evil in people.
While struggling to regain her memory, she follows a strange guiding instinct to a small Colorado town. There she finds other young men and women with similar stories, similar tattoos, and a multitude of extrasensory powers. Among them a man she's intensely attracted to, yet with no memories of him, she has no idea why.
As Lena and the others explore their powers and try to figure out who and what they are, they make a frightening discovery. Those who know the answers to their questions are hunting them. And if they find them, these superhumans may not survive.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2018I’ve just binge-read through both the prelude and first book in The Lost Children Trilogy, so here’s my 2-for-1 review.
I downloaded Awakened, the prequel to Krista Street’s The Lost Children Trilogy, from one of the freebie sites. I don’t even remember which one and the only reason for downloading it was its intriguing cover. Those who know me also know that’s “not my style”. If my luck held up as well as it did in this case, however, I will definitely need to be doing it more often. Awakened gives the original backstory for how the series’ lead, Lena, wakes up in an alleyway with no memories, a strange tattoo and a supernatural ability. It then follows her early days after that. I really loved the presentation of Lena so much that I couldn’t stop at the book’s end and had to get - and immediately read - the actual series book 1 as well. That book is Forgotten, which tells how Lena finds others like her, and discovers they’re being hunted. This is incredibly fun stuff. Full of action, suspense, a multitude of superhuman powers, and so much more. Great world-building, a wonderful cast of characters and great plots forming what is shaping up to be a truly neat series arc. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - these two books definitely deserve it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend them. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2018Take it from (another) indie writer: it can be damnably difficult to come up with a completely new idea, especially in a well-populated genre such as science fiction. With “Forgotten,” Krista Street has done well in that regard. Moreover, with some reservations, I found the book quite enjoyable.
The reservations pertain to plausibility. The eight “lost children” of “Forgotten” were supposedly raised together, under a single roof, by a single man. Yet upon first encountering one another, they know nothing about one another, except for the tattoos common to all of them. That strains credibility, even if we accept that a drug capable of completely erasing symbolic memory is possible. What about conditioned responses? What about sensory cues? One drug to wipe out all of that – and without damaging the patient?
Another plausibility challenge arises from the immediate attraction between Flint and Lena. An attraction that strong would have predated the administration of the amnesia drug. Therefore, aspects of their memories would have been bound to the attraction, and would have resurfaced upon reacquaintance. I had to swallow hard to get past that omission.
Well, science fiction can be like that. Willing suspension of disbelief is demanded of the SF reader. But the premises of “Forgotten” test that capacity to its limit.
There are two other clinkers. First, in the person of Aaron, Miss Street leaves a loose end dangling that I’d expected to see tied off. Perhaps we’ll find him in a subsequent volume. Second, the foreshadowing of the Forbidden Hills is too blunt: it made it too obvious that the key to the “lost children’s” shared past would be found there. Obviously these aren’t fatal to the story, just minor irritations.
Given all the above, I will repeat that I found the book enjoyable. The characters were well colored in, the setting was pleasant, and the novel’s resolution does set a nice hook for the rest of the series. I’m thinking about continuing on with it, despite my wife’s constant reminders that I’m supposed to be working on a sequel to “Innocents.” (Yes, writers play hooky from their own work. It might be our favorite pastime. Writing surely isn’t!)
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2024This is a new author for me and I love her writing so far. This book draws you in from the beginning and keeps you involved. It starts off with Lena , who wakes up in an alley and doesn't remember anything but her name. Over the next several months she hitchhikes around the until she arrives in Little Raven. There she meets seven other young people, who like her, only know their names and each has a special ability. They spend the rest of the summer working on a ranch while trying to discover who they are? Then they discover a cabin that might hold answers for them.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2024This first book was interesting and I got hooked. However, I cannot afford to buy books. I'm on a fixed budget. That's why I get my books from Kindle Unlimited. So I will not be reading the rest of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2019Like the best of the YA Adventure series that have been written in the last 15 years or so, the “Forgotten” trilogy by Krista Street has a wonderful central story driven by well-defined, interesting, and likable characters whose individual interwoven story-lines all come together nicely and provide something for readers of all ages to enjoy.
You have a small group of young adults, mostly in their early twenties, who are pulled and pushed together by some indescribable voice/feeling in their head from many different parts of the country after waking up with amnesia. Who are they? Who were they? What happened to them before four months ago? Why do they all feel compelled to head towards the same destination, and what are they supposed to do when they finally all get together?
There is a love story, lots of action scenes at a huge cattle ranch, plenty of suspense to keep you guessing, and the book is extremely well written. The author takes the time to flesh out each character’s, their flaws, quirks, idiosyncrasies, and yes, everyone has some sort of hidden talent or power.
Once you start reading you will be so engrossed in the story and the people, before you know it you have been reading for hours. Loved the book. I teach 4th through 8th graders and I know all of them would enjoy it as well as many of my adult friends. Check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy Young adult
Lena is a young woman in her twenties, her once smooth and unmarred skin now adorned with a mysterious tattoo. She woke up one day, disoriented and alone, with no recollection of who she was or how she got there. The story begins with her hitchhiking through the rugged landscape of Colorado, her heart heavy with confusion and fear. As fate would have it, she stumbles upon a small town filled with peculiar individuals unlike any she has ever encountered before. Among them is a strikingly attractive man who exudes an air of mystery and intrigue, seemingly uninterested in her presence. But Lena can't help but be drawn to him, his piercing gaze stirring something deep within her. As they all band together to unravel the secrets of their past and the source of their newfound abilities, Lena can't shake the feeling that this group holds the key to unlocking her missing memories.
The words in this book flowed effortlessly, each chapter propelling the plot forward with precision and purpose. The endings of each chapter were like small hooks, luring me deeper into the story and igniting a fierce curiosity for what would happen next. Author Krista Street is a master at creating an air of mystery, drawing readers in and keeping them on their toes. As the story unfolds, the characters are skillfully crafted, each one distinct in personality and appearance, making it impossible to confuse them. Street's talent for vividly describing settings adds depth to the story, while her ability to give each character a unique voice makes them truly come alive on the page. Once I was swept up in this gripping tale and invested in these well-developed characters, I found it nearly impossible to put down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Captivating!
Great characters and what I would give to visit Hideaway Hills, the scenery sounds spectacular.
Looking forward to finding out what the future holds for the group following their unanimous decision to search for more answers, even though it could potentially be dangerous.
Well written.
