Editorial Reviews
Review
These killer chapters are really well written. You draw up the right amount of suspense, without giving much at all, but giving us enough to really keep the interest ripe.
I was on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out any clues that might have been left. I love how you wrote the torture scene. It was gory enough to really let us know the danger, while leaving it open enough for us to make our own mental pictures. It was tastefully written while still really packing the punch that is necessary. Excellent job!" - Silvia Curry @silviareading.webs.com

- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWow, I was not expecting a story as complex or as thrilling as For The Love of a Centaur. McGowan skillfully weaves a tale of intrigue, secrets, love and quite a bit of male sexism. I will admit to bring rather put out with Matt as he constantly underestimated Analise. I just wanted to choke him through most of the book, as he's portrayed as a guy who badly needs a wake up call. Overall, I loved this book and as the first of a new series, I can't wait to see what McGowan has in store for us in book 2. I will definitely be recommending this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt's a story that young adults and any adult can read without having to worry about to much graphic sex scenes ..it leaves it to your imagination. This book is so close to real life, you feel everything the characters have gone through. The sadness, the heartache, it touches the depths of the soul. I truly can't wait to see what the other books hold. This is truly a great book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOverall, the story was different.
I had trouble believing the premise (which I won't mention because it gives away too much). Perhaps if the book was a historical romance the concept would be more believable, but in this day and age not so much.
I believe the story could have moved a bit faster, but that is because I don't like to get bogged down in too much description that does not move the story forward. But that is a personal preference and not everyone feels the way I do.
There were a few loose ends within the story that had nothing to do with the ending. Perhaps the next installment will answer those questions.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOne review mentioned paranormal....nowhere in the book I came across elements of such genra.
The story is predictable. There is no depth. Situations are totally unrealistic, as in the fighting scenes and the way agents behave. Author could not make up her mind what to do about the main characters, their religious beliefs their puritanical approach to sex, etc...Sorry, not reading the series. It is very lacking all around and uses all the cliches of other spy/ suspense novels. My suggestion to the author? Really do some research about fight scenes, actual undercover work snd stop treating sex as a disgusting subject by hidding behind religion.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI don't normally read contemporary romance, but this was an interesting read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2017Format: KindleI love the face paced action in this story!
I will say I kept waiting for someone to turn into a centaur, finally it dawned one me. It's not going to happen.
Analise finds herself waking in the hospital. Her father's partner Matt at her side.
Analise and Matt must marry to live together in the home her father left to Matt. Matt promises that the marriage is just on paper and that Analise can divorce him when she turns 21 and receives her inheritance.
Blshe soon falls in love with Matt but leaves him once she is 21 because he fails to love her back.
This story is an amazing romance story packed with raw emotions, a strong lead woman, loads of action and has faith at its core. I can't wait to read the next book!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2018Format: PaperbackAnalise has been in a terrible accident and when she wakes up from the hospital bed, she learns that her parents have been killed and her home has been given to her father’s business partner, Matt. Matt vows to always take care of her until she turns twenty one. This is when she is entitled to her inheritance. Matt and Analise decide the best course of action would be a marriage in name only in order to protect her reputation from gossip. Analise very much wanted a real marriage, but Matt always kept her at arms length. When Analise turned twenty one, she finally had enough of her fake marriage and decides to leave to find herself as a woman and perhaps find the love she so rightly deserves. With the arrival of Matt back in her life some months later, should she give this marriage another chance? Or will secrets between them have the capacity to get her killed?
I really had high hopes when I started For the Love of a Centaur. I love the fake marriage trope in romance, so I happily anticipated reading this story. While there are many things I like about the story, there are a few things that did not work for me. I really liked Analise. She has been sheltered most of her life and treated as if she were a child by her husband and once she leaves home she finds herself, makes friends, and is able to get on with her life. Matt is a strong male character, but often at odds over his feelings for Analise. He is attracted to her, but there are secrets he is keeping that could have major repercussions in his marriage. While I did enjoy both characters I never made a deep connection with either of them. I felt like I just touched the surface with getting to know them. What I did like most about the story was the suspense. The suspense started off slow and really had a good build up and kept me interested.
Another thing I was a little leary about was the title of the book. I was a bit confused and at the same time a bit intrigued as to what a centaur had to do with romance, but once you start reading it all makes sense.
All in all, For the Love of a Centaur, was an easy light read. The story is sweet with a bit of excitement thrown in that will keep you engaged right up until the end.
