Free Me: Love in the Pacific Northwest Book 4 Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 227 ratings

A gender-fluid cutie, a workaholic hottie, and a hookup gone right.

Blake

No romantic relationship could ever compete with my dream job. Sure, it gets lonely, but that’s what occasional hookups are for. Work-life balance? Who cares? I certainly don’t. Until chest pains bring me to my knees and land me in the emergency room.

It’s a wake-up call I can’t afford to ignore.

When my well-meaning family encourages me to make some major life changes, like hiring a meditation and physiotherapy coach, whatever that is, I’m worried enough to agree.

Imagine my surprise when my practitioner turns out to be the hookup I haven’t been able to forget.

Stef

What’s a fabulously vivacious gender-fluid beauty to do when stress is high and Prince Charmings aren’t lined up at their door? Head to the club to recharge my sparkle on the dance floor. I have no intention of hooking up with anyone. Hookups are not my thing.

Then I see the slightly older hottie in the Tom Ford suit, and all my self-restraint goes up in a blast of glitter.

When it turns out he’s my new meditation client and my friend's older brother, I’m sure the universe is messing with me.

Because mixing business with pleasure is a huge no-no.

So why does my heart keep shouting yes?

Free Me is a low-angst, opposites attract, worlds collide, contemporary LGBTQ romance about a hookup gone right. It contains no cheating, and a guaranteed HEA

Blake is dedicated to his publishing company to the point of obsession. HIs passion for growing his business and continuing his success eventually lands him in hospital. When his step-mom recommends he see a physiotherapist to help him learn to relax and care for himself, he reluctantly agrees.

Stef is bright, bubbly, and joyful. They see the beauty in the world and rejoice in it. They also are gender-fluid, and have learned to fully embrace all sides of themself. When they arrive at Blake’s house to begin his therapy, they realize that not only is Blake incredibly attractive, he is also the hook-up that Stef cannot forget.

I adored this book from the beginning. Stef is such a bright and beautiful character, their positive attitude and acceptance of who they are is a lesson everyone should learn. They fully embrace the world around them, and refuse to let negativity affect them. Blake is drawn to Stef from the minute he lays eyes on them; the attraction is instant and electric. They connect deeply and fully and accept that connection.

Their story is low-angst, full of family and friends who are family, brief glimpses of characters from previous books (it’s always lovely to see what they are up to) and shows the reader that being who you are and embracing that fully is the best way to live your life.

Another very romantic story in this series. Stef knows they are a lot for some people and not sure if they’ll ever find the one who can truly love them for who they are. Blake is a giant stress ball and finally needs to take his health seriously and balance work and life. Stef helps him do that and sparks fly. Sweet and romantic book.

I have really loved this series and this installment was a great one! I loved the portrayal of Stef’s gender fluidity and how his loved ones were so unphased by it and were so supportive. In particular, this book features one of my favorite sex-positive one night stands, as well as one of my favorite “be the queer you wish you’d known as a kid” moments that I’ve read.

I originally read this in e-book format, and just listened to the audiobook. I loved it just as much as my first read! The narrator, Gary Furlong, has good pacing and did a great job narrating the characters distinctly and in ways that feel authentic to them without becoming stereotypical caricatures!

I recommend the Love in the Pacific Northwest series for anyone looking for found family and stories that grapple with real challenges with sweetness and care! Free Me in particular has great representation of an older romantic lead (mid 40s) and a nonbinary romantic lead.

I have enjoyed every book so far in this series. This one is no exception. Blake and Steph are beautiful together. I love Blakes acceptance of Steph’s identity and gender fluidity. This author has a way of writing emotions that you can feel deeply. Hot, but not at all smutty. The relationship development is on point. I love it and can’t wait for the next book!

Book 4, Love In The Pacific Northwest series
    Narrated by Gary Furlong

A chance meeting/hookup in a club comes back to “bite” Stef and Black when Blake has a health scare. After hiring Stef to help his stress reducing rehab the chemistry between them becomes too hot to ignore.

I enjoyed this audiobook very much! Stef and Blake made a fabulous, sweet couple. I loved how accepting Blake was of Stef’s fluidity and how much of a non-issue it was for him while asking sensitive questions of Stef.

    If you like audiobooks with:

    ✨ Gender fluid MC
    ✨ Open minded MC/family
    ✨ 🔥🔥🔥schmexy times
    ✨ Low angst
    ✨ Fantastic narration

    Then this is for you!

Steph and Blake are a sweet, fun couple. They are absolutely perfect for each other. Blake is the open, accepting person Steph has always wanted—someone who sees them and loves them for exactly who they are. And for Blake, Steph is the breath of fresh air, the sparkle his life was missing. They are adorable together and their relationship is so healthy and lovely.

This book is full of smiles because Steph is sassy and confident and never lets anyone dim their shine. There’s even one scene that was so sweet I cried.

My only complaint is that it is too angst free. I think I would have liked it better if it had been a short story or a novella. Or if there had been a least a little more conflict or obstacles. It just felt like their relationship came too easily.

Still, I am happy Steph got their HEA. They’re such a wonderful siblings to Jules and a fierce and loyal friend that I am glad they finally got their own happy ending.

I enjoyed this low angst story about Blake and Stef! Their road to a HEA is full of feels and warm fuzzies. This is a new to me author and I enjoyed the the other couples in this book so much that I’m going to look for their stories now.

What a lovely story about some just amazingly flawed beautiful humans that just want to be loved for who they are. In.That.Moment. So valuable to put a voice to their stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming Low-angst MXM Romance
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 6, 2023
Free Me is a charming low angst MXM romance between genderfluid & fabulous Stef, a physiotherapist & meditation instructor (and is the older sibling of Jules from book 3 of this series), and overstressed workaholic Blake, who runs a publishing company (and is the older step-brother of Tadgh from book 2 of the series).

This is book 4/5 in the Love in the Pacific Northwest series. Having read the previous book gives this one more depth and context, with all the previous MCs playing secondary roles here.
