Friend or Mistlefoe: A Christmas Enemies to Lovers Gay Romance Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 334 ratings

The only thing worse than Mingo not living out his Christmas rom-com fantasy is having his sworn enemy be the one to make all his holiday dreams come true.

I’d rather roast my chestnuts over an open fire than spend a single second around Marley. So when that grinch shows up at my apartment to hang out with my friends over Christmas break, I’m ready to deck his halls, if you know what I mean.

After he starts an argument with me, I take advantage of the mistletoe hanging above us to end it with an impulsive kiss to shut him up, once and for all. But I make one crucial miscalculation: Marley kisses to win, and I refuse to lose.

Now, I want to jingle his bells and make it a white Christmas. It must be a holiday miracle that I went from hating a guy to wishing he’d plow me like the snowy roads.

Can we call a truce long enough to make it a not-so-silent night?

Friend or Mistlefoe is a standalone novel in the Sunnyside universe. This comedic enemies to lovers gay romance is full of holiday cheer and naughty Christmas banter. If you love cute sweetness, sexy fun, and no angst stories that will make you laugh and swoon, you’ll enjoy this festive HEA without cliffhangers.

This was such a cute Christmas romance. Marley and Mingo are perfect for each other even if they’ve been bickering with each other for three years. There was no angst in this story and I think it worked so well for this story. It was a very sweet enemies to more holiday love story. I found both characters entertaining and they balanced each other well.

The reason I’m giving this four stars instead of five was because the first few times they kiss (and more) Marley was a little too forceful for me. I wish he had backed of a little more when Mingo voiced his non-interest in what they were doing. We’re supposed to know that Mingo was actually very interested, but it didn’t always work for me. It never felt like he really crossed Minho’s comfort zone but it was close. I just with Marley had confirmed consent before he acted on a few occasions.

I did receive a free ARC of this book but that did not influence my review. I will definitely be reading this book again.

Who knew there were so many Christmas puns? Minho and Marley are sure full of snarky and sweet puns, which are on full display as they go from enemies to lovers to a Christmas HEA!

I liked this story but not as much as some of this author’s other books. Mingo’s determination to see everything negative about Marley got on my nerves at first. It didn’t take much insight to realize he was always that was because Marley made him feel so conflicted about his emotions. Marley seems to take it all in stride though and is sure he can turn that “hate” into something else entirely. It really is a fine line between love and hate.

Although it started off rough for me (one MC had a LOT of anger) it quickly finds its footing and moves along. I enjoyed the pace, the story, the ending, and especially the Christmas puns. And it makes me want to visit Japan too.

My first read for this author. I really enjoyed it. Mingo and Marley definitely had their issues, but boy did they click. Their denial and stubbornness was just part of their game. They ignited something in each other that neither wanted to admit. Mingo had a Christmas romantic fantasy in his head and didn't want to admit that after years of bickering that Markey could be the one. It was cute with all the puns and banter. I enjoyed the low angst, just go with it frenemies to lovers tale. It was a fun read that made me smile and want to believe in magic of Christmas love.

While I am absolutely more of a Scrooge at Christmas and find it hard to deal with all the Christmas themed stuff out there this had me laughing so hard with the puns I was crying. A+ on being punny! Ariella is known for being absolutely hysterical but this was another level. Loved it. Definitely my new go to Christmas book to get in the holiday spirit. Mingo and Marley are the best. <3

if I loved it or hated it, but ultimately I say it’s a worthy read. Filled with the energy of enemies to lovers, it’s full of holiday puns and big words that I’m not sure I even understand! LOL I did look up the recipe for matcha mille crepe cake, and um no, I’m not making that! Well done.

This is a very funny book full of Christmas jokes and puns. It has some very sweet and poignant parts (when they talk about their grandmas) and some feisty bits when they try to out-pun each other. I thoroughly enjoyed it and now I really want a set of Mingo's mugs lol.

These guys will have you swooning and laughing!
Mingo is delightfully cute with his mug designs and yummy Xmas cookies but the way Marley stayed in Mingo’s personal space to get his feelings across is heart fluttering and schmoopy!
I totally recommend this to anyone and everyone who enjoy a no angst and fluffy sweet read to start the holiday season!

MM, Enemies to Lovers, Holiday Themed, Contemporary, Comedy, Romance. A stand-alone holiday novel in the Sunnyside universe. Hot and steamy, low angst, sweet and cutesy story, a fun, pun a minute read with great characters with a guaranteed HEA.

In this story we have Marley and Mingo. This was a fluffy, enemies to lovers xmas romance with Christmas puns throughout. I felt the enemies to lovers angle was more Mingo hating Marley not necessarily reciprocated. Mingo is a bit hard to warm up to as he holds on to his apparent dislike for longer but it’s a sweet story with a HEA.
