- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2020Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI've been doing yoga for a few years now. When I came across the cover and title of this book, it really made me laugh so I figured why not give it a try. I must say it's nothing like I expected it to be. If you're looking for something new in the world of yoga then this is the book for you.
In the modern yoga world, most of us speak of doing poses, going to classes, getting more fit and flexible, and the more traditional books can be quite dogmatc, dry, and preachy. Jason's story really brings it home as to why we actually practice yoga and how we can shake things up a bit. He has a way of simplifying concepts and showing you how to apply the practice of yoga to your daly life. This book is also suitable for those who have no idea what yoga is or have never been to a class before because it's more about his personal struggle with the ego than it's about the physical yoga practice itself.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a deceptively quick read about a modern, western man's journey of waking up. It was so easy to read with its conversational style, and modern wit, that I am glad I was highlighting throughout via my kindle, as going over those passages again, I was awestruck by many really beautiful thoughts on yoga, the path to waking up and the breath, to name a few.
I enjoyed the smart questions of the co-author Sandra, and the truthful, personal answers of Jason, and his path to get his head out. it's not a guide to enlightenment, but rather a modern yogic tale with some beautiful practical steps to get there if one is so inspired. I recommend Jason's book to not only the yoga community in all its mental shapes and forms but anyone interested the path of a seeker in the 21st century.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2019Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseReading this book felt like sitting in on a conversation that spans time, like a documentary in print. It's the story of a man bringing clarity to his search, from wrestling to dancing, laughing all the while. It is written in terms of yoga-speak, but the ideas are universal, the meanings made clear for non-yogis. I found it helpful in shedding light on these ideas, thoroughly enlightening in the most literal sense.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2019Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI really loved this book! I catch myself thinking about it often and applying it to my life. So I am looking for the sparkel and rembering to breathe. Such a good read I couldn't put it down.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2019Format: PaperbackAfter finishing this book, I hopped on over to Amazon to express my delight at the overall message in “Get Your Head Out of Your Asana.” I also read the other reviews because I was extremely curious as to how others would view this book. I was happy to see that 4 out of 5 people are awake enough to honestly confront themselves. This is a really great book if you are on a path of answering the greater questions in life, specifically around consciousness and the (no)self. However, if you are quite happy in your security blanket then this book should come with a warning to stay away. Far away. I just had to laugh at the “A Victim of His Own Maya” review. This is why. First of all, the guy read the book twice. Well done. But then he starts spitting out words like Vendanta (I think he means Vedanta), Existentialist, Shri and Nihilism. His grasp of dogma is really second to none. If you are to walk down the road highlighted by “Asana” then you are going to have to leave all of that stuff behind. Sartre and de Beauvoir are not where “Asana” wants to take you. There is no Cafe Deux Maggot there either. Especially because it is Magot, not Maggot, and especially because you should learn how to spell occasionally before being such a pretentious critic. When this guy threw in that he was non-judgemental, I started laughing like a hyena. Yes, poor man, deluded/uninformed/self-important are all good words. Only you are pointing them at the wrong person. Because his review was so very personal toward the author and not regarding the actual content of the book at all, I could guess that second reading must have been entirely painful for our critic. If you want something to wake you up, and you are not firmly attached to all the elements of your personality that define you...then you may have a shot at getting the message in “Asana.” Be brave! Take a stab. The worst that can happen is you also go to all the trouble to write a snarky review on Amazon. The best that can happen is that you start to shed yourself. To those who are not Victims of Their Own Security Blankets, press on!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2019Format: PaperbackI just finished re-reading Jason’s book. On the face of it, ridiculous and uninformed on Vendanta but something, occassionally, nevertheless, insightful. Then, I realized. He is not a yogi at all and certainly not spiritually enlightened. He has discovered that he is an Existentialist which is a philosophy that harbors not a shred of spirituality. I say that non-judgementally as I suspect he is not that deeply read. In fact, I lived that moment once-upon-a-time in my personal journey. I would advise Shri Jason to read Jean Paul Sartre and, my favorite, Simone de Beauvoir. Then, he can sip his vin ordinaire at Cafe Deux Maggots and pontificate about nihilism and leave us poor, ignorant yogis to meditate serenely on our path of enlightenment - deluded though we may be - without his uninformed, self-importance! LOL

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-read for anyone looking for self-awareness
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseJason Revere’s book ‚Get your head out of your Asana’ is the most fascinating book dealing with questions of self-consciousness I have read for a very long time. Like almost no author before him the Yoga teacher unambiguously shows how reachable the “awakening of your True Self” (p. 11) in fact is. There is no magic formula, instead, “the only truth is the one you already know but aren’t completely aware of.” (p. 10) This message is relieving because there is no need to study for years since awakening is nothing else but truth awareness. But at the same time Jason’s message is also challenging. Because if we already know what our True Self is, why don’t we just move our focus to it? Because we are afraid to do so. And we have every reason to be because “enlightenment is painful, and permanent” (p. 19). But Jason convincingly shows that we still have every reason to take this path. Because it ultimately means to lose that very fear that has dominated our lives and has also kept us from seeing our True Self: “Everything we do is out of fear. Fear of what? Fear of not knowing what the hell is going on, fear of dying, fear of no self.” (p. 58) The book provides the reader with a simple, but powerful and liberating truth: “All you have to do is survive and then die” (p. 70). This truth allows us to completely surrender, to stop fighting the exhausting and pointless fights against our fears but just run towards them and “give your life to the flow” (p. 117). And this is a wonderful message in a world where calls for self-optimization cause a constant sense of failure. And it is also a message almost every one can relate to, be they familiar with the teachings and practice of yoga or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guida al risveglio spirituale

5.0 out of 5 stars The yoga book that really isn't.
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI couldn't agree more. The context in which Jason shares his story is personal and engaging. Are you questioning why you do yoga, or why you do anything in your life? If not, you should be and this is just the book to help you get started. Jason's story of beginning the awakening process is real and relatable for anyone who's questioning their own reality or just wants to find a bit of clarity within themselves. If you want to look deeper it's a must read. He's practical, down to earth, and also kind of full of crap in the most light and funny way.
