Goods by Hand (The Perfect Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
A series of events force Saffron Miller to intervene in Mina’s life. In order to stop her friend’s adulterous husband from his nefarious activities and ensure that another, better man takes his place, Saffron uses her power to create Adam.
Now it’s time to pass on the family gift but to whom? Saffron’s daughter doesn’t have the prerequisite characteristics, but Mina does. Which of the two can be trusted, or should fate be allowed to choose?
About the Author
Robyn Cain came to Britain in the sixties with her mother. After spending her childhood in the south of England she married and moved to the North, finally settling in Cheshire. Her dreams of becoming a writer came alive after her children were born. Since then she’s got a first class honours degree in English, completed her MA in Creative Writing and trained as a teacher whilst balancing work, home and children.
With very little actual free time, Robyn completed her first novel, Seven Stops, taking precisely seven years to write it. Now the children need her less she is playing catch up. As well as two published novels, she is currently editing a crime thriller. Amongst her future plans, she has drafts of three other novels in the pipeline.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseGoods by Hand is an exquisite blend of sweet romance, flavored with paranormal mysteries, and spiced with psychological terror that kept me reading well past my bedtime. A mesmerizing array of characters revolves around the central character of Mina, a woman whose relationship difficulties virtually tear apart the lives of her friends. A writer who is controlled by her psychologically abusive husband, Mina begins as a weak and frightened prisoner of her husband’s will. Buoyed by the love and support of the Miller family she hangs on to her sanity by a thin thread.
The Miller clan is headed by matriarch Saffron; a woman with a secret that has protected the family for generations. Known for her skilled use of natural methods to cure colds, stomach aches, and all sorts of ailments, Saffron has an additional skill she keeps hidden. This mysterious ability is passed from mother to daughter but Saffron is not certain her daughter Omikia should be the next recipient of the talent and the tools necessary to use it.
Saffron is a good woman with a big heart. But her love for her family and her friend Mina leads her to perform acts that may become her undoing. Much like Stephen King’s Pet Semetary or Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Saffron steps over the edge to play God.
Goods By Hand is a fascinating story with complex characters and intricate layers. As each layer is peeled back another intriguing layer is exposed. Some readers may have difficulty with the dialogue since it is very British. But it is never unclear what is happening. The flavor of the tale is an intricate composition of magic, madness, and mystery. I was extremely impressed with this book and find Robyn Cain’s writing style a breath of fresh air in the sometimes stale and repetitive techniques of current horror writers. Because in the end this is a horror story; the horrors of domestic abuse, voodoo like magic, and murder. It is, in a word, brilliant.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2015Format: KindleThis is another fast page-turner from Robyn Cain. Where does she get her characters from? The good ones are very good, but the bad …. ouch! Amongst them is Saffron who’s well-intentioned fantastic method of voodoo/black/white magic? causes as many problems as she tries to solve. There’s plenty of suspense, but I feel I should issue a warning: you will have to wait to buy the follow-up if you are like me and want to find out how certain characters finally receive their just desserts!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2015Format: KindleI was at first fascinated by such an unusual cover; I then read the intriguing book description, and mention of ‘controlling a dark living force through their blood’, and I was sold. Goods by Hand is a very unique and accomplished novel. I immediately became entwined in the poisonous relationship of Mina and her despicable husband Richard. If ever there was character that deserved a nasty end, it was him. However, even more so, I was enthralled by the deeply mysterious creation of Saffron Miller. One part loving Earth Mother, one part voodoo High Priestess, Saffron is a character that indelibly imprints upon your mind. She is all about right and true, but her paths are dark and unpredictable. From the outset she knows Richard's Machiavellian intentions, but respects Mina's right to to use her own judgement. But when that judgement is forced upon her, Saffron is there for Mina all the way, like a living force of nature herself. Miss Cain has written a brilliant allegory of manipulation and control. How love blinds, and how easily, through such blindness, a person can be subjugated. It is a powerful and affecting story. One that ebbs and flows. Stark violence is balanced against tea shop tête-à-têtes, delivering to the reader the clear presumption that, on the turning of a page, anything could, and probably would happen. Evident throughout the book was a slight dream-state quality bubbling underneath giving a constant sense of unease. That things weren't quite the way they should be. Due to this dreamlike element, I did have some difficulty detecting how much time had actually passed, although peppered throughout are nods to seasons and events, such as Christmas, I still had to think, is this years or months? It's weird as the more I read, the more I lost myself in a superbly strange world, and realised just like being in a dream I was captured by the power of quite an incredible mind - the mind of Miss Cain. Dark, penetrating and distinctly original, Goods by Hand is one book that definitely should not to be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mysterious, intense and left me wanting more
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNot my usual genre but enticed by the cover, Goods by Hand is a great read. Mystic, multi-cultural and murderous characters keep you hooked and are wonderfully balanced with the endearing simplicity of family relationships and friendships. This book intrigued, frightened, and genuinely made me smile.....pick it up, you won't be disappointed.
