Got Me Hoping (Vet Shop Boys Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 1,733 ratings

It's just a one-night stand, they said. It'll be simple, no-strings fun, they said. They. Lied.

I'm done with love and being broken-hearted. The only dogs I want to deal with are the ones I treat in the veterinary clinic I work at.

But at thirty-four, having my first one-night stand can't hurt. Right? The rules are pretty simple.

1. Don't spend the night.
2. Don't see him again.
3. Don't share anything personal.
4. Don't fall in love with him.

But when Haze, the guy I spent a blazing hot night with and haven't been able to forget about, shows up as our new receptionist, the rules fly out the window.

There's no way one night could lead to anything more. So why has Haze got me hoping this might just last?

Got Me Hoping is book 1 in the Vet Shop Boys series and can be read as a stand-alone. Expect plenty of humor, found family, a vet who's almost given up on love, sizzling chemistry, an unexpected office romance, an adorable golden retriever, a foul-mouthed parrot, an eye-popping world first discovery, and a heartwarming happily ever after!

This was a cute story. Noah and Haze met at a bar and agreed to having a one night stand. Six months later they are back in each other's lives and both want to pursue a relationship. But Noah has been hurt in the past and Haze doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. This book hit all the feels as these two got to know each other. There was also a lot of humor, cute animals, and spicy bedroom scenes. I'm excited to dive into the rest of the series.

Even the absurdity of DLS (sorry, you have to read it to find out what that is.) A lot of stuff here I don't know much about, but big, licksome and handsome golden retrievers I do know. We have had several like Buddy and will welcome more given the opportunity.

The Pet Shop Boys was what came to mind when I first saw the book title. I like their music and they are on my playlist. Ok book review. It’s a light-hearted and feel-good read and the MCs are lovely. It’s tooth-achingly sweet and it dragged on with nothing much happening especially the last few chapters which I unfortunately had to skim. I kept waiting for the book to end. Now I hope Fulton’s story is a little more exciting.

WOW!!! This is an AMAZING beginning of a series. VET SHOP BOYS Book 1 is a really fantastic way to set you on a new path. Noah is part of a veterinary clinic owned with friends. Haze is slightly adrift. Still trying to find his niche. They meet on a one night stand. CASEY COX has a great way of weaving a story. This is a series, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy. Come join the fun. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

This was a cute story and I really enjoyed both main characters. The story is very low angst with some spicy scenes, but the scenes are practically all the same each time. Spice should not be the reason to choose this book.

This was such a sweet book. I really liked Noah and Haze together right off the bat. Loved the other guys who work at the Vet shop. I can not wait to get into their stories. This one had me laughing so hard and sobbing at other times. Definitely a good read!

I really like how the emotions and feelings the characters are going through are emotions and feeling we all feel. It humanize the characters and bring a connection. Characters feel all those lack of self esteem issue and how in the end they overcome them by their own is super nice. It's somewhat have a morale. Ha ha ha. Well I certainly want to know more about chase and the spark between Gus & Tate lol.
Can't wait to read about Fulton...

Awww, I loved this book. It was a perfect, light, fluffy read. I hate first-person, present writing and much prefer to be shown the story rather than told (active vs. passive story-telling) but I was able to overlook both issues rather easily with this book since it was so sweet and easy to read.

I loved the premise of the book (a serial relationship guy decides to have a one-night stand) and am delighted to be able to read about "normal" people. I need a rock-star, hockey-player, billionaire detox! I love animals, so a vet clinic of single men looking for love was just what the doctor ordered - I wish more time had been devoted to the animals, the quick synopsis made it seem like Noah's golden retriever and the "foul-mouthed parrot" would feature more prominently.

After a night out with his friends, and finally ready to move on from a failed relationship, Noah decides to try having a one-night stand. The eye-catching Haze spies Noah while also out with his friends at the same bar and when they bump into each other sparks fly and they head back to Noah's place to hook up. Haze is leaving town for a few months so they figure they will never see each other again, but that doesn't diminish the chemistry they had.

Months later Noah is shocked to learn that Haze has returned and is the new receptionist at the vet clinic. Needless to say they start spending more time together and soon it becomes very evident that what they have is far more than one-night or even temporary.

I love how open-minded everyone is, rather idealistic, but nice. It was interesting exploring the characters views on sex, sexuality, and relationships. I appreciated that all the characters had lives going on beyond each other and enjoyed watching Haze grow - his struggle trying to find what he wants to do with the rest of his life was very relatable.

I have mixed feelings about the drama that ensued in the later part of the book because it largely concerned a secondary character so if felt like the author was at a loss on how to get their characters from point A to point B so used the opportunity to set up another character's story as the mechanism to do so, which detracted from the primary storyline. As the rest of the story was rather low-angst it really disrupted the flow for me. I still enjoyed the book but this scene in particular was pretty jarring.

I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more, especially the cat-loving Chase's.

I loved the characters, I loved their jouneys, but I felt like this story just dragged a lot, and the epilogue almost gave me whiplash, so much time jumping happening, I just wanted to end it. And it was hinted that Gus and Tate may be a future pairing, and I was glad until Haze revealed that Tate is poly. Ugh, I'm sorry, I don't believe in poly relationships and to have a character go from being cheated on to accepting being in a poly relationship seems forced (i know technically poly isn't cheating, but I don't want to see Gus having to accept this type of relationship just because he is in love). I really hope their story isn't poly and it's just a phase for Tate, because come on, this is the kind of thing that passes, it's not a sexual orientation.

I really enjoyed this romance story.
Both Noah and Haze are just lovely people and their chemistry together is just perfect.
Life isn’t a straight line of wonder, but these two, with their friends and family overcome their own hurdles and left me feeling warm and contented.
I look forward to the rest of the series

While this book covers a bit too many sterotypes and is in some cases a bit overly sweet, it is also a decent story about a one-night-stand developing into more.
Noah and Haze fit together, both have their share of previous relationship issues but lear not to give up.
The circle of friends feel real, there is depth in the group I feel is often too shallow in similar books. Haze's aunt - I just want to have her as mine.
There are funny scene with animals and the fact that I may think twice about buying purple soap now. I look forward to the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and uncomplicated spicy romance!

Noah works as a vet at the cutely named Vet Shop Boys clinic. He hasn’t hooked up with anyone for years and, to his friends’ amazement, he’s never had a one-night stand. When he meets Haze, he decides it’s time to try one, and Haze is a safe bet since he’s about to leave the country. Six months later, Noah is flabbergasted to find out the new Vet Shop Boys receptionist is none other than Haze and the two start up a tentative friendship and more. Both men have been hurt by previous partners and Haze still has no idea what he wants to do with his life, but with the support of each other, their lives start to improve.

Sometimes you just want an uncomplicated, low-angst relationship and this cute workplace romance was just what I needed. It’s enjoyably sweet, fun in places, and super-spicy in others. The author doesn’t do Haze any favours when she has him repeatedly describe his endowment in glowing terms early on but, once you get past that, he and Noah are decent guys and their chemistry is amazing! I also really liked their friends and colleagues, and I’m looking forward to each of them getting their own story. 🎧 John Solo is always a superb narrator and I loved his performance here (this first in the series is currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!
