Goody Goody Gunshots: A Candy Shop Mystery Kindle Edition
When Abby Shaw witnesses a stranger gunned down on the highway, she's convinced that she's seen a murder. The only problem is, when she returns to the scene with the police, there's no body. Even elbow-deep in hot syrup, Abby still gets chills thinking about it, and is determined to find out the truth—yet when a body does turn up, days later, wishy-washy witnesses make things sticky. It’s not as if Abby can take her sweet time figuring it out—she’s busy running Divinity, training a new employee, and assistant-coaching her nephews’ basketball team, not to mention reconnecting with an old friend. But she discovers things aren’t always as they seem, especially when it comes to keeping deadly secrets…

- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2015I like this series and I love the recipes. It is a quick read about a murder in a small mountain resort town.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2021In the weeks before Thanksgiving Abby Shaw finds herself embroiled in another murder investigation. After leaving her brother's house late one evening Abby nearly runs down a man skidding to a stop. When she exits her car to check on him shots ring out and the man is struck down on the side of the road. When the gun fire continues Abby jumps in her car and returns to her brother’s home to call the police. When the police arrive at the scene there is no body or blood to be found despite Abby’s insistence that she saw the crime.
This is the fourth book in the Candy Shop Mystery series. The book had me hooked quickly and I finished it in two days. The author does a good job at creating tension between characters. Abby and her family are realistic and well-developed, even her young nephews. I love the setting of this book and it is easy to envision the town as you read. Sadly, there is only one book remaining in the series. I recommend this book/series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2008I have read the whole series and love it. Could not wait till this book came out. It is a must have.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2008One night while driving back from her brother's house, Abby witnesses a murder. She hears the gunshots and sees the man go down. Freaked, she leaves the area and calls the police. But when they return, there is no body and no sign of blood on the ground.
Over the next few days, no body turns up, and Abby is beginning to wonder what is happening. But life goes on. She agrees to be the assistant coach for her nephews' basketball team. And she hires a second assistant for Divinity.
But then Abby spots the "murder victim" across a parking lot. Before she can confront him, he drives off. Soon, a car is following her and a very real corpse turns up. Is all this connected?
I am pleased to report that this is my favorite book in the series so far. I keep coming back because I love the characters and setting, and they continue to charm here. Abby is trying to grow as a person, and those results are clear here. I like many of the relationships in the book, and it's always nice to see those grow.
My one complaint with the series has always been the weak ending. That's not the case here. The plot is mysterious and fast moving, as always. Abby pretty much figures things out on her own at the end. It may feel a little rushed, but that's a minor complaint.
As always, there are some candy recipes. They sound great.
I enjoyed the book from start to finish. It kept me mystified and entertained. I hope it's not too long before Abby finds another body.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2008I've enjoyed this series up until now, but after finishing this installment, I'm left wondering what its purpose was.
The book really consisted of nothing but Abby running around town saying to everyone she meets, "Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?" until she was finally able to figure out what was going on. I'm still not sure why she was doing this, since the police seemed to have a handle on the case without her help.
There were also loose ends that were left hanging -- why was her nephew at the gym and how did he get there? Is her relationship with Jawarski now moving forward? The author never bothered to wrap things up for us.
I also have one pet peeve with this series. Why does Abby take Max the Dog with her everywhere she goes, only to leave him in the car or chained up outside whatever persons' business she's currently annoying? As a pet owner, I find this irresponsible and making absolutely no sense.
I hope the next installment is better.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2008I have been a fan of this series since "Candy Apple Dead" and it seems with each new release in this series, the books get better and better. The mystery, the red herrings and the character development are good and get stronger with each entry. I must, however, agree with the reviewer who said that the ending seems rushed. They do seem that way in each of the books in this series. This entry this is slightly improved, but I always leave these books feeling like if the author had just added about 20 more pages, the ending would not feel so rushed and it would have a more complete feel.
I would definitely recommend this book, and the whole series, to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries and food lovers (I always want to eat a lot of chocolate while reading these books. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2015At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I really enjoyed this book in the series, too :) It was really interesting because we had no body and no identity of the victim... The only thing I couldn't figure out is how Abby could have possibly gotten everything done in her life that she needed to. She must not get much sleep!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2008All I have to say about this book is that if you love a cozy mystery then this is the book for you. I have read all of this authors books and by far this is the best one so far. And when i started the book I couldn't put it down. This is an author I would recommend. I just can't say enough about it. I also love the Recipies at the end. Just give this author a try. but i would recommend starting with the first one candy apple dead.
