Hard to Score: A first love-second chance, damaged hero, football romance (The Play Hard Series (The Kincade Sisters) Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,838 ratings

New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, is back with a new Kincade sister and a swoon-worthy football player in an all new standalone romance that will make you believe in first crushes and true love.

I’ve signed numerous players to my family’s agency—I assumed winning over my next client would be just as easy.

The last thing I expected was to run into the boy who took my first kiss and broke my heart: only now Drew Bowman is all grown up.

Sexy. Scandal-tainted. Second-string.
The crush I never got over.

I tell myself work is the reason I can’t get him out of my head. I tell him his talent far outweighs his position, and I know I can help. I lie and lie, because admitting that I want a second chance at my first love is impossible.

Some lines cannot be crossed, and ours was drawn in the sand years ago.

***

I’m supposed to hate her.

I’ve been told so time and again for ten years - her father ruined our family, smeared my name before my career even began.

But that’s not what I’m feeling now.

Brexton Kincade just strode out of my memories and onto my field.

Driven. Determined. Grown up.
The Capulet to my Montague.

Being with her would be an unforgivable sin against my father, but I can’t resist the pull between us. Even if it means hiding what we have. Even if it means confronting the secrets I’ve always feared were lies.

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary romance novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines and damaged heroes, who we love to hate but can’t help to love.

A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs, sports practices, and figuring out how to navigate parenting teenagers (send more wine!). More often than not, she does all of this with her laptop in tow, and her mind daydreaming of the current hero she is writing.

Since publishing her first book on a whim in 2013, Kristy has sold over two million copies of her books across twenty different countries and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over thirty times. Her Driven trilogy has been adapted for film and is available on the streaming platform Passionflix as well as Amazon.

"The past is the past."
Hard to Score is the third book in the Play Hard Series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, and yet, I highly recommend reading the series from the beginning in order to truly enjoy the dynamics between the characters and their lives. Brexton Kincade is a sports agent who gives her all to her job. Loyal to her family and passionate about all things sports-related, Brex seems to have it all. Everything except for love. After watching her sisters find their soulmates, Brex knows that she is missing out. After a chance encounter with an old flame, a flood of memories comes rushing back. Drew Bowman is a second-string QB and has the world on his shoulders. After surviving a tsunami of family drama, the last thing Drew needs is reconciliation with a woman from his past, and yet when the two come together a spark re-ignites and they are brought back together and both discover that love is worth fighting for. Told in dual POV, Hard to Score is a sweet second chance romance with a double dose of family drama. I enjoyed the relationship between Drew and Brex and although I am not normally a big fan of the second chance trope, I found their story to be very engaging the entire read. As always, the passion is off the charts and K. Bromberg never fails to amaze me with her complex storytelling and witty dialogue. I have fallen head over heels in love with the Kinkade family and the father is probably my favorite character of them all. Overall, Hard to Score will appeal to readers who enjoy a sweet second chance romance between a smoking hot football player and a sassy sports agent. The Play Hard Series has been an absolutely stunning series and I look forward to the next book in the series!

Brexton and Drew were kids whose parents were best friends, who vacationed together and who crushed on each other - until a final summer when their lives were turned upside down. Drew's father, a famous NFL quarterback, walked away from the sport under a cloud of ugly rumors about gambling on his team's games. Brexton's mother died suddenly.

Hard To Score picks up 10 years later, with Brexton now working as a sports agent and Drew struggling as a backup QB for the NY franchise. Drew's career has been shadowed by his father's reputation. The chemistry the pair shared is alive and well.

Bromberg does a great job of portraying this wounded hero. Drew is both a strong and vulnerable man who's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He's dealing with a sister in crisis, caring for his young niece, and trying to earn his father's respect. Haunted by his father's scandal, he is determined to learn the truth of what really happened. Brexton is determined to help him build his confidence and step into the starring role he deserves.

The relationship and family dynamics are convincing and the romance sparks off the page.

These Kincade women are so awesome and I just. Can’t. Get. Enough! They all have distinctive personalities and it seems that each story is better than the last.

The Kincade and Bowman families were lifelońg friends, spending many, many hours with each other and taking vacations together as one big family. Then a devastating event happened to each family within a couple of months, fractųring the bond between the two families and leaving each of them forever changed, carrying new scąrs.

Years later, Brexton Kincade runs into Drew Bowman in her duties as a sports agent. All the unrequited feelings each had for the other come rushing back to the surface. Except Drew's family refuses to acknowledge that any of the Kincades even exist, so those old feelings will just have to remain in the box they’ve been crąmmed into.

Brexton may be my favorite sister because she isn’t jaded when it comes to love. Although watching someone who is anti-love fall is always entertaining, there’s something a little softer to Brexton that’s really appealing. And she's going to need those rose-colored glasses with Drew, because this boy is really conflicted and has a bunch of baggage and history to sort through and work out.

Sports romance lovers, this is your series! Let’s see. We also have a bit of friends to lovers, forbidden romance, and second chances, so there's something sure to please every reader. Add in the entertaining sister dynamic, delightful pops of wit and humor, and steąm enough to melt your Kindle, and this captivating, heartfelt read from such a talented pen just can’t miss! Snag your own copy and lose yourself in this intoxıcating world. You’re going to love it, guaranteed!

Hard to Score was a terrific read! I have read the previous two books in the series and am fully invested in the Kincaide sisters. Hard to Score was Brexton's story. Brexton and Drew (the hero) had past ties. Now years later they are reunited and it was interesting to see how everything would go. It was easy to fall back into their friendship they had when they were younger. There is an underlying attraction between the two but it seems like the past might be an issue. I did enjoy how Brexton and Drew got to know each other again. Their banter and interactions were fun and flirty. I loved seeing their relationship progress from friendship to so much more. Though there are secrets and lies and heartbreak and second chances that play a major part. I was fascinated to see how things would go. Overall Hard to Score was a riveting story. It was full of emotion and heart. I have been enjoying the Play Hard series. I can't wait for the final book.

There's something about Hard to Score that leaves you feeling all happy and content, makes your toes tingle, and makes you smile big time. It's got the feel-good factor along with just enough drama to keep you wondering, and more than enough emotion to keep you fully invested in the journey Brexton Kincade and Drew Bowman are about to embark on. Brexton is a true Kincade. A dedicated sports agent who is tough when needed but has enough vulnerability to make her endearing to the reader. She's no pushover and certainly gives Dekker and Lennox a run for their money when it comes to picking a favourite out of these three sisters. Drew Bowman, a quarterback with abilities others would die for, is sitting in the shadows not using his skills to their full potential, and seems happy to do so. Well, that's the drama of the story.....is he really happy? Or does he want more? The Kincades and the Bowmans were family friends until it all went wrong and nobody wants to talk about the past or the reasons why. These two are reunited and that's where the fun really begins. They are fabulous together. They just seem to fit together perfectly. Unfortunately, that's not what Drew's father thinks and their relationship is tested. Will Drew confront the demons of his past and confront his father over the unspoken past and the whys and wherefores? Will he choose love over family loyalty? Will Brexton make Drew see his worth and how it's his turn to shine? It's so worth the read to find out. K. Bromberg weaves such emotion into this story, it's beautifully done. The scenes between Brexton and her dad and between Drew and his Mother will have your eyes leaking. Time spent with Brexton and Drew will have you smiling and sighing and smiling some more. Side characters are fab especially Mildred and Charley. Finn Sanderson as always makes an appearance but you might be pleasantly surprised this time. Meeting up with a couple who we adore from a previous book is a very nice surprise. I give Hard to Score all the stars for all the feels.

Book 3 in the saga of the Kincade sisters. This is Brexton story, and a great one it is too. Child hood friends she and Drew grew up together and shared a great family friendship. Until disaster struck and due to Drew’s father’s behaviour friendship disintegrated. Move on 10 years and the chemistry is still there, but far more mature. This is a story of lies, and dreadful animosity between to once very close families due to an untold secret. Sometimes it’s easier to apportion blame to someone else rather than admit the truth. When lies become embroiled in history, and the web to entangled to unravel, then it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. Drew is a Quarterback, following in his father’s footsteps, but due to previously traits is tared with the same brush! Resulting in always being second best. Brexton an agent out to snag another player. The story is full of deep seated emotions, of anxiety, stress, and very close emotions. A tissue may be needed occasionally, and there are times when you feel like shaking a character. It is well written, very descriptive, and flows well. It is easy to read, and touches on many aspects of relationship dynamics, but trust and truths are the main issues or hang ups. An excellent read by an excellent author.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a second chance sports romance you have to read!
Reviewed in Germany on February 21, 2021
After reading the first two books in the Play Hard series by K. Bromberg I really couldn’t wait to finally read Hard To Score which is the third book in this series.

This book series is about 4 sisters - Dekker, Brexton, Chase and Lennox. All four work for their dad, Kenyon Kincade, at Kincade Sports Management. He assigns them all that each of his daughters have to sign on new sports athletes.

This book is about Brexton Kincade. She tries to get Justin Hobbs to sign up at her sports management and shows up after a game. He is a twenty something cocky quarterback star and she knows that it won’t be easy to get him under a contract with her management.
When she is about to leave she sees an athlete on the field and is totally mesmerized by what she is seeing. She thinks it’s Justin, but when she gets closer she realizes it’s not him. It’s no other than Drew Bowman who she hasn’t seen for ten years. They grew up together, were best friends and she had a crush on him. Everything changed between them when his father was in a huge scandal and they never talked again which broke her heart and she never got over him. Drew’s family was falling apart and it’s all the fault of the Kenyon Kincade. He has so much hate towards Brexton’s family but all the feelings come rushing back to him. They try to leave the past behind and start as friends again but they both can’t deny their feelings for each other for long.

Hard to Score is a second chance sports romance and it is a book you have to read! I have no idea how Kristy does it but every book is my new favorite book by her! I couldn’t stop reading this story because it was so good! It gave me all the feelings! It had many sexy moments and I loved the tension between the main characters. But I also think this book has very emotional parts where you can feel how hurt and broken they are. I have a soft spot for our football player Drew and he is swoon worthy even if he doesn’t know it! Even after ten years Brexton and Drew have this amazing chemistry you just can’t deny.
Really looking forward to the last book of this series!

Brexton is my least favourite of the sisters thus far but only because I wanted to see more of her in her professional setting. I also felt that somehow she was closed off as a character. I wasn’t too sure of how I felt about Drew throughout this either. Quite honestly, he wasn’t very likeable through 75% of the book.
Well written and an easy enjoyable plot.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 18, 2023
Brexton Kincaide is one very strong minded lady just like her sisters. They are part of their fathers agency looking after athletes and their egos and getting them new deals or getting them out of trouble when its needed. Drew is a quarterback, he works hard but doesnt get much of an opportunity to play because the team has spent a lot of money on the new guy but he waits his turn. Brexton used to have a big crush on him, their family used to be close until their fathers got caught up in some sort of scandal that seemed to follow Drew as though it was his fault. The attraction was still there and Brexton wanted to help Drew get the break he deserved but it wasnt going to be easy when she wasnt his agent. Just like the previous books in the series its a good strong story.
