High Tide at Harvest Moon: Fundy Bay Pack Book 1, Paranormal werewolf romance Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 39 ratings

She's haunted. He's lethal. Trust issues, anyone?

Finally, Lexi Coolen has a home. Or so she thinks. Bouncing around for over 10 years, she's discovered she's safest on her own. Shaking off the shadow of being a teen amongst werewolves has been tough, but she's always managed. Until she met Kerr.

Kerr MacDonald messed up. Letting a rival pack's pet human move into town without permission is bad for business. Fixing things should be easy, except he's torn. Force her out or claim her as his own?

High Tide at Harvest Moon is the first installment in the Fundy Bay Pack series. If you like strong, independent heroines, sexy heroes too used to getting their own way and small-town quirkiness, you'll love Taryn Blackthorne's new paranormal romance. Buy your copy today!

Taryn Blackthorne was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, where the winds are strong, rain is hard and the winters fierce. She learned how to read before she started school, and fell in love with stories of magic, mystery and good triumphing over evil. At school, she used her repertoire of tales to entertain, often making up stories where her friends were the heroes when everyone was stuck inside for recess.

The turning point came in fifth grade. She was sent back to her desk to write instead of doing her math...because her teacher wanted to see what happened next. Since then, Taryn hasn’t stopped. She divides her time between her family, her stories, and enjoying wandering Nova Scotia.

I have to say that I've read A lot of shifter stories and I do love them, but I truly enjoyed this book. The story was fresh and exciting. The characters where full and kept me entertained. Lexi and kerr are so broken in their own ways that it's hard to hope for them. The emotions that you feel reading this book keep you going. I laughed, got mad and held my breath. It grabbed me from the first chapter and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I’m a sucker for shifters and shifter romance. So when I was approached to review High Tide at Harvest Moon by Taryn Blackthorne, I was excited! Fictional romance between characters that seem to hate each other really is a favorite trope of mine, so to see Lexi fight her attraction to Kerr was fantastic!

The build-up to the inevitable romance was great! You see Kerr trying to do everything right and being so damn dreamy, while Lexi remains prickly. With good reason we find out, but even she can’t keep him out for long. The writing is hot and sexy. The major complaint I had, however, was how jarring the start was. It definitely doesn’t fit in with the rest of the story and immediately throws you off of Kerr, and a bit off of Lexi too.

Once you get past the start of the story, you really begin to feel for everyone involved. For Lexi and all she’s been through, for Kerr and what he’s been through (even though we don’t really know it all because a man with mysteries is always fairly sexy), and for pack policies. High Tide at Harvest Moon by Taryn Blackthorne is definitely a good start to a new werewolf romance series that I definitely want more of!

Great story! Loved the characters and the relationship with the main couple. The world building is also great. I really enjoyed Blackthorne's take on werewolf pack culture. The werewolves are cool. The hero smolders, and the main character is quirky and relatable. Great book. Can't wait to read more in this series!

I've always loved reading Paranormal Romance. However, for some reason, I always tread very carefully around shifter romances. I decided to give this one a go and am go glad I did!

The protagonist is Lexi Coolen. I loved her fearlessness! I haven't read a book with a main character as fierce and independent since the Night Huntress novels! Lexi is an awesome strong heroine!

The romance was very believable. At first, I wasn't a fan of Kerr but once I got to know him and more about his background he quickly grew on me. I can't wait to find out what happens in book two!

I thoroughly enjoyed the setting and the world building. This one is set in Canada which was interesting and refreshing for me. I loved Taryn's take on shifters and how she left some things open-ended for plenty of possibilities of more books. One of my favorites is the witches. Maybe we'll get to know more about them in the next book, who knows!

I'd recommend if: You like strong independent heroines. Have an affection for Paranormal Romance. Want something original and unique!

Taryn Blackthorne has me hooked. I haven't read a book like or felt like this about a book since I first found out about Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series. This is the start of the Fundy Bay Pack series, this first book is centered on Lexi Coolen and Kerr MacDonald. They each have their own set of problems, pasts that they are trying to move on from. In Kerr's case losing his wife and his brother; in his grieving he stopped doing his duties as Beta and became a drunk living in a college town and it was easy to find a willing body to share the night with. Lexi's past is a painful one, that has resulted in her having trust issues. She left home as soon as she could and never wanted to look back again, she wants nothing to do with shifters. I love what Lexi is, she is intelligent, strong willed and fiercely independent; and when faced with something that scares her she digs in her heels, lifts her chin up and gets mad. Kerr is a very promising book boyfriend, kind of a hound dog (yes pun intended) at the beginning of the book but he's really a very devoted and sexy guy with a sense of humor. I love the Alpha, Forbes. I look forward to his book.

Lexi is working on yet another Master's Degree and working as a Teacher's Aid, for the last year and a half she has been living in this quaint college town restoring an old two story Victorian house. She takes in roommates to help make ends meet but this last one takes the cake. Pulled out of bed in the middle of night to pick up her drunk eighteen year old roommate and the notorious Kerr MacDonald. She never expected Kerr to start going furry on her, trying to remain as calm as possible Lexi is forced to call her mother so she can contact the local Alpha. Kerr is surprised that not only was Lexi able to keep him from shifting until he was in the safety of his alpha but his wolf claimed her as his mate.

Forbes, the Alpha for the Fundy Bay Pack is taken back that Lexi has managed to hid herself from the pack for as long as she did, but it's only because her powers have just recently started to emerge. But now that he knows she's there he knows the dangers that are there for her if not claimed by a pack and soon. Using the pack rules Forbes makes a deal with Lexi that Kerr moves in with her for a brief period of time and determines if she a threat to the pack. Lexi has dealt with shifters since she was twelve, she hasn't told anyone about shifters. She kept the secret after what they did to her and after they kicked her out but she plays along with Forbes and Kerr because she doesn't want any trouble, but she has rules of her own and these rule further prove to Kerr that something very bad has happened to her at the hands of shifters and more than ever needs him to protect her and prove her wrong that not all shifters are like those of her old pack. The tide is high in Fundy Bay and with it comes trouble in many forms.

Overall, this was a great book. I look forward to reading more especially if Forbes is next for a book. Taryn Blackthorne has a great narrative, her active setting is very good, the book sucked me in and I inhaled the book in one sitting. I see promise in the series. And I can't wait to meet Lexi's best friend Hannah.

I received High Tide at Harvest Moon as a free copy from the author. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. I really enjoyed the plot for this book, and the characters were well developed. I never really liked Kerr, but he added a nice chaotic edge to the story. There were a few holes in the plot, but I enjoyed the read enough I found it easy to overlook the loose threads. I would consider the next book in this series, as I'm curious to see how Lexi's character would blossom under the cloak of the Fundy Pack's protection.

I was very pleasantly surprised with this book. I love the story and the characters. The story being set near where I live is a first for me and made it that much more interesting. Looking forward to reading more of this series!

A unique twist on werewolves. The story started a little slow but picked up quickly. I liked that Lexi was independent and not willing to let her past hold her back or bow to Kerr. I look forward to the next in the series and hope it provides a glimpse into how their relationship evolves while another pack member finds their mate.
