J.A. Jaken has been writing fictional stories and novels for more than ten years, most frequently in the fantasy and science fiction genres.     I’m reviewing the audio edition. I really have mixed feelings about this story. It’s a short story and focuses on a prince and farm boy.
    Cedric, the farm kid is forced into service for the prince. He is taken from his home to be a companion to the lonely prince. He isn’t sure why he was chosen but follows orders.
    Alain is the lonely prince with an almost death wish. He is always getting into trouble doing dangerous things that he should be punished for but he is the prince so his companion gets the punishment. This punishment is getting whipped and humiliated.
    Cedric doesn’t know why Alain keeps doing things that gets him beaten but wishes Alain got the whipping so maybe he would change his actions. This story touches on fantasy/erotic/BDSM elements. I wish it had been longer so more of the story could have been more developed.
    The narration by Dan Calley is excellent as always. He manages to bring life to each individual character.

    I listened to the audio version of this novella. For only being 1 hour and 32 minutes I am very impressed with how well developed the story is. The characters feel real, and it is possible to feel the emotions each feels as the story progresses. There is a heart to the characters and what they start feelng for each other. It is more than just smut and sex, it is care, and tenderness and, perhaps love. <spoiler>I like how the rolls become reversed that the end and the heir becomes the whipping boy to the whipping boy</spoiler> Part of me would like more story following the two MCs as time and their relationship progresses.
