Bring Down the Stars (Beautiful Hearts Duet Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 3,336 ratings

Bring Down the Stars is an emotional, angst-filled novel of unrequited love by bestselling author, Emma Scott.

I fell for Connor Drake. I didn't want to; I fought against it, but I fell in love with him anyway. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to mine. He writes as if he can feel my heart, hear its cadence and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow. I'm in love with Connor...so why do I feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner, who could cut you down with a look. Fiercely intelligent with a razor sharp wit and acid tongue, he's the exact opposite of Connor in every way, and yet there's electricity in the air between us. The thorny barbs Weston wraps around himself can't keep me away.

But the more time I spend with these men, the more tangled and confused my emotions become. When they both sign up for the Army Reserves during a time of increasing strife in the Middle East, I fear I'll never unravel my own heart that sometimes feels as if it will tear straight down the middle...for both of them. **********

If the Sky falls

If the Sky falls
In Connor's words "the sky must be falling”.... it must be because what else would explain how a book like Bring Down the Stars came to exist ....a hand full of stars and the night sky crashed down on fiction-land leaving in the aftermath this beautiful, dramatic, awe inspiring, out-of-this-universe book by Emma Scott….the title is just perfect 🖤 Thoughts about this book… This work is about the intertwined lives of three people, Connor, Autumn and Wes. But the one that shined the most for me was (of course) Wes. Everything about him was very intense multiplied by one hundred thousand and ten; from his deep seeded sadness, that enlightened cynicism, the self-loathing, the bleeding poetry, the inferno of emotions he has towards a dad who rendered him dispensable as a child. The intense loyalty to Connor and finally his secret all consuming obsession with Autumn…...now I have read all of Emma’s Scott’s book (except one) and I am going to say this is the most intricate, emotionally amplified character this author gave voice to ….just layers upon layers of depth…. I really connected with Wes's view on life as well. He thrives in the midst of chaos, learning to use adversity to his advantage. Even when it seems that he is running away from his past he is also racing towards that finish line... towards a future and something better... He always holds his head high and with pride, staying true to his idealism, never admitting weakness to bullies. I respect those qualities in him so much. I also noticed that this book is a kind of coming-of-age novel ….I don’t think I have seen that as much in Scott's other books…but god this rare examination of boyhood in romance was executed with such delicate finesse. My hat off to Emma for not sugar-coating Wes’s experience or superficially glossing over his journey from a bullied middle schooler to a formidable man. (I enjoyed the man part especially for other superficial reasons since Scott made him look like a God with mad all powerful running skills and omnipotent race winning instincts…warning: after this book I will not be surprised if some readers will be looking for men ahem I mean just book boyfriends about introverted runners 😗 I know I will 🖤😄 To conclude: Thank you Emma Scott for letting us meet this wonderful Wes of yours….The writing is honest and beautiful as always like Wes is….and I just want to say that I have never read a book where I sublimely spent more time inside a character’s head becoming absolutely riveted with everything he felt and thought, with every piece of dialogue tumbling out on the page. Emma Scott: She honestly prys the floors boards, opens a peep hole for her readers, so they can peer into Wes’s soul, his beating heart, the wildfire burning in chest.....I didn't want to leave.... This story is yet another floating cosmos in Emma Scott's vast universe and Wes is the darkest most alluring star yet.... Thank you for this book again 🖤....….. I will always want more glimpses of this author's universe.

This amazing writer brought a unique genius book , a plot with amazing depth and figures that are easy to connect to. From the first page I became addicted to the book and it was impossible to leave the book for a moment. The plot sweeps my heart and soul , the characters are so deep and beloved that one character can not be preferred over the other. It is a story about deep friendship between two men, a rare loyalty, a love triangle, forbidden love. If I could give 10 stars to this book, I would.
Autumn met Connor and Weston at college. Two amazing men that swept her away with first meeting.
Connor is a guy with a captivating smile, a rich guy that he most visual trait is magnet to people , people like to be around him, he's a nice-looking guy,Fun, likes to enjoy life, . Weston is introverted, anti-social, a brilliant student with phenomenal writing ability, who came from a broken house and financial distress and heartbreak. Connor and Weston had joined at junior high school. They became very close friends like brothers, inseparable. Connor's family took Weston's family under her wing and helped them in critical situations, and Weston feels a deep commitment to Connor's family that has supported his family all these years. Connor and Weston signed up for the same college, Connor's parents welcome this friendship. They know that Weston is watching over their son and helping him with his studies. They are grateful for that. They greatly appreciate the seriousness and investment of Weston in his studies. Connor feels that his parents does not except him for what he is , they want him to be like his big brother, more successful in collage, in studies, to integrate into the family's business, but he wants something else and they don't support his dreams. He tries very hard to please them, but always feels that everything he does is not good enough for them. He comes from a rich family but with a broad heart, he will not hesitate to provide financial help to a friend, he does not see it as something special.
Autumn is amazing and does not look like the others girls in college . She is very serious in her studies, she sets goals for herself, and does everything to achieve them. She comes from a farm, she has a loving family, but with financial difficulties, situation is not good, they barely manage to float on the water. She decides that by investing in her studies she will leave the farm and succeed and help her family. She is a deep and very intelligent girl. Lately she has been through a painful separation from her cheating boyfriend. But when she meets Connor she feels she would like to try again, give another chance to love. And when she meets Weston she feels an instant connection, he seems completely different from the way the society defines him. She wants him, too. She is very confused with her feelings. They have a lot of things in common. When Connor takes the first step and woos her, She decides to try, although she does not find many Connor's qualities that occupy her, she is rather hesitant at first, she needs someone to fill her soul, her intelligence, and not just entertainment. Connor immediately understands this and asks for the help of his good friend Weston. And from here begins a chain of events in which Weston noticed immediately, in order to conquer her Connor needs much more than just fun. She needs romance, she needs poetry, she needs things that will conquer her soul. And he is a step-by-step guide Connor, writing Autumn letters , speaking instead on the phone with her, conquering her for Connor. She falls in love with Connor's soul, when in fact it is Watson's soul. And so she confesses to Connor that she is in love with him, in his soul, he realizes she does not love him but Weston. Both could lose her if the deception was discovered. Things are getting complicated, and undermining the foundations of this love triangle.
As I write this review , many emotions overwhelm me, this book gripping my soul and filling my mind, I can not wait for the arrival of the second book.

I'm not sure where I picked up this book on Kindle, but it finally took me two years to finish it (I'm excruciatingly slow at reading eBooks). To expand my horizons, I thought reading a romance novel would be good for me. Bring Down the Stars feels like a classic partly due to its heavy resemblance to Cyrano de Bergerac. Its tropes feel solidly planted in the genre, even to the point of being almost timeless. Still, the characters are a little frustrating.

When I finally sat down to focus on reading this book, it hooked me pretty well. The writing is beautifully poetic—which is most often seen from the male point of view (POV). The female POV was a good counterpoint to give the reader both sides of the story while also making the miscommunication between these star-crossed lovers a buildup to either passionate love or a complete destruction of the friendship. That dance between the two is likely what keeps people coming back to this genre. I get it now. It's maddening, but I get it.

I found the modern elements interesting because they could have easily been swapped out for similar situations in centuries past. As I mentioned above, this is basically a Cyrano re-telling, but with two athletic college students in love with the same farmer's girl. Which war the men went off to is irrelevant, as it could have just as easily been the American Revolution or Civil War. It frustrated me that there wasn't a conclusion in this book, as it would have been easy to accomplish without the need for a second book. If I feel up to exploring the genre again, I might pick that sequel up.

A modern take on a classic romance, I give Bring Down the Stars 3.5 stars out of 5.

Holy cow. I don’t even know where to begin. To see the story being told from these specific 2 perspectives hurt on a different level. I kept waiting for the third, but I feel like it was written exactly the way it should’ve been. The love, the deception, the pain, the betrayal, the ENDING?? I’m just staring at the ceiling wondering how I’m supposed to go to work in 3 hours when all I want to do is dive into the next one right this second.

I hope I can do this UTTERLY UNFORGETTABLE book justice with this review, but right now, I'm simply BLOWN AWAY by the EPIC FEELS that reading Emma Scott's UNPARALLELED words in Bring Down the Stars have left me with!!!

I was a little hesitant at first, as I'm not a HUGE fan of love triangles! But, as I got COMPLETELY CONSUMED by the story unfolding, I realized that this is not REALLY a triangle in the classic sense but it's about different KINDS of love!

I fell DEEPLY, IRREVOCABLY in love with Weston, the brooding, damaged, lost-little-boy who I wanted to wrap my arms around and tell him everything would be okay! I REALLY didn't like Connor....AT ALL (he struck me as kinda selfish, with his "It's all about me" attitude at times, yet towards the last part of the book, I found he does have some redeeming qualities) I empathized with Autumn and fell almost as hard for her as I did for Weston! She's trying to get over a broken heart and wants NOTHING to do with getting involved again. All she wants to do is concentrate on her studying and getting on with her education so she can help her family out! She's the type of friend EVERYONE needs; loving, sensitive, would do anything she could for you....and then she met Connor and Weston and her life was NEVER gonna be the same!

This love story is FILLED to the brim with ANGST, AGONIZING emotions, love in ALL it's glory.....and a heart-shattering "I can't WAIT to find out what happens!!!!" cliff hanger! Emma Scott is a TOP Unicorn author for me for many reasons and THIS BOOK IS ONE OF THEM!!!! You MUST READ this book and find out WHY it's not JUST a TOP READ, but it's THE TOP READ of 2018 for me!!!

This book gutted me in so many ways. One I couldn't put it down I had to keep reading. Two the loyalty, the devotion the epic bromance. Three the writing was on point, there is nothing I can fault about Emma Scott's literary skills. Four that ending, that realization. Worth it.

There is only one thing I wanted from this story and that was a point of view from Connor, and maybe more Ruby interactions.

If you are a fan of Meghan Quinn's four book series *The Upside of Falling, The Downside of Falling, The Right Side of Forever and the Left Side of Perfect* Then the Beautiful Hearts Duet is gonna be something you wanna read.
