Journey To Redemption (Holimoren Book 2) Kindle Edition

3.6 out of 5 stars 3 ratings

When a flash of an ax in a quiet inn thrusts Dar, apprentice Journeyman, into the midst of an assassination attempt, he becomes the guardian of Drij, a mysterious stranger on a dangerous pilgrimage. Together, he and Drij will journey across Holimoren to a city sought by all who wish to make amends with the Gods—a city known in every language as Redemption. With them will journey people with deeper sorrows, darker secrets, and more horrific memories than all the wars have burned into the man who would dare to guard them. For good or for ill, all who are called to Redemption are changed by the journey.

Dar must learn what coming to Redemption really means—for himself, and the world. For as their wagon grows closer to that holy ground, so too does a legend returning from the distant past.

A legend that is evil beyond this world.

D Boom's first book I found to be very engrossing but this one seems like he just wanted to dash off a follow-up. He's an friendly acquaintance of mine so I hate to dis his book but Doug your first effort proves you can do so much better. I look forward to the next one on par with your Fortress of Angels, or better!

The bad guys in Mr Boom's second book are not merely bad, they are just plain horrible monsters. Boom's Letin makes Dick Cheney look like a thoughtful, moderate, decent person! ( Spoiler alert: Letin died, and I was glad to see him go:) )

The story is well paced, with lots of interesting characters to balance the bad guys. I enjoyed the coach trip across Holimoren, and the twists and turns thrown at Dar and the passengers were surprising, and dealt with believably. My grandson hasn't suggested I read it, and I don't plan on telling him to read it because I don't want to talk to him about the behavior of Letin and his ilk. But I suspect he has already read it and doesn't want to talk me about their behavior either.
