About the author

Dahlia Donovan wrote her first romance series after a crazy dream about shifters and damsels in distress. She prefers irreverent humour and unconventional characters. An autistic and occasional hermit, her life wouldn’t be complete without her husband and her massive collection of books and video games.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2023Format: KindleThis is the perfect book for snuggling up to enjoy a peaceful afternoon all warm and cuddly before the fireplace. Let the action be inside the book instead of in your life. At least, that’s how it felt to me. I really enjoyed this mystery that takes place in a small village in the countryside of Scotland. The writing, setting, and characters felt authentic. The main characters, George and Murphy, have been friends for years and have only recently realized their relationship was changing. Now lovers, they are totally in tune with each other.
George is autistic and enjoys the solitude of his home and yard more than any other place. A beekeeper, he loves his bees and not only uses their honey for several of his own concoctions but also supplies Murphy who makes specialty meads for the pub he owns. When a new neighbor accuses George of sending bees to attack him (he’s allergic) George is momentarily speechless and then allows himself a few choice words with the neighbor, which are, unfortunately, overheard. When the neighbor is found dead in his home that’s filled with bees, George is in trouble.
Those who read book one may recall these amateur sleuths worked together to get Murphy out of a similar predicament. Now, they are at it again—this time to prove George innocent. The mystery is eventually solved but the best part of the story, in my opinion, is being with George and Murphy as Murphy offers comfort and support. As George tells him, he’s the only one who doesn’t hover and who knows how to simply be there for George to let him process in his own way. I appreciate an author who follows through with showing a character acting true to the way he might be expected to act with a particular diagnosis—in this case, autism spectrum disorder.
The book is fairly short and the mystery not very complex. The story is more about showing the men’s relationship and their roles in the village as well as their friends and family and support group. And, of course, they get a beautiful HEA after the mystery is solved. I’m looking forward to more in this series in their quaint little village.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseGeorge and Murphy are once again caught up in a murder. This time it’s George’s neighbour that’s murdered and George is a suspect, or is he? I enjoyed this mystery, it’s kind of sweet.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2023Format: KindleHoney Bee Murder, and the series as a whole, checks every box for a perfect cozy mystery. It’s set in a quaint village in Scotland, it has a quirky cast of characters, the sleuths are a beekeeper and a artisan mead brewer, and the mystery is interesting. It is the perfect book to curl up with and read while sipping a hot cup of tea!
This time, the mystery is focused on a suspicious death, that of a man found in his cottage, which was found swarming with bees. His death comes just hours after a confrontation the victim initiated with his neighbor… George, who is a beekeeper. So George, Murphy, and their friends find themselves dragged into another mystery, as they all hope to clear poor George’s name.
I love the relationship between George and Murphy. The compassion and sweetness between them is beautiful. Murphy understands George, who is an autistic, and is respectful of his needs, and very protective of him. They have a great dynamic, a relationship based on understanding, support, and humor.
Aside from the two main characters, my favorite characters were the fathers. They were hilarious, two men from different backgrounds who bonded over their children and became best friends. They are charming, loving, supportive, and oh so funny.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2023Format: KindleMurphy and George are in the thick of another murder. Had George really thought the village would be a quiet place to live? For not liking people or social interaction George just can’t seem to stop inviting a possible killer into his cottage. The upside is Murphy is spending a lot of time there too.
Everyone is doing their best to keep him of trouble, but to no avail. Throw both men’s fathers into the mix, George’s bees, Bumble the pug,Treacle the chihuahua and if ever there was a sweet murder mystery this one is definitely it. No heat, just two men in love, with one of them in trouble again.
Not a lot of mystery. With so few suspects it was pretty easy to figure out who the baddie was. But that didn’t really matter. The essence of the story is family. I loved how they try to take care of George.
I really like this author’s writing. I feel that she gave George’s issues a true voice.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2023Format: KindleGeorge and Murphy are back in the second book of the Honey Bear Cozie Mysteries. George is happy to live his life in his garden with his bees and his dog, Bumble. He never dreamed of a neighbor coming over to yell at him and to harass him to keep his bees out of his yard. When the man turns up murdered, all eyes turn to George. Murphy knows George would never hurt anyone or anything but he must balance his brewery and the upcoming Highland games with finding the murderer and keeping the fathers who are coming to visit out of trouble.
This is an amazing story populated with wonderful individuals who have no problem taking care of each other’s needs. George, who struggles with too much going on, is given the time and space he needs to stay steady. He and Murphy have a wonderful relationship and depend on each other regularly. The plot was quite intriguing as everyone pointed to everyone else. It was like going in circles. These are fun books to read and leave you with a smile even if there is a murder.
