I loved this book! (Already ordered the 2 follow up books.) This little book will leave a big impression on your heart. This is Nelson’s story told in his voice from beginning to end to after and everything in between as seen through his eyes. It is funny, sad, bittersweet, touching, entertaining, and much more. He is a lovable little rascal with a big personality. He has his rules! He loved his mum and papa and they him. He also had love from his very select extended family. And like most pet owners, his mum and papa did all they could to love and care for him and to save him. You will shed tears. Your heart will break. But you’ll also know he was a happy and opinionated and well-loved little guy. He left such a mark and managed to get messages across the divide in his own way. There’s so much packed into this little book. The photo gallery also gives us a peek at some of his antics. Letting Nelson tell his story in his unique voice was so enjoyable. I am sure it was hard for the author to relive, but maybe cathartic too - to get down on paper the memories that might fade a little over time. There’s also a beautiful heartfelt poem the author wrote for Nelson. It ends with the haunting words, “….and an empty window staring out to sea.” All pet owners have those “empty windows” with the hope we’ll meet again one day.

I really enjoyed Nelson's story. It reminded me of my Jack Russell Rozie who was also very intelligent and loving (but she never nipped at anyone). I really wish I could've met Nelson although between the stories and the pictures I feel as if I had. For anyone who loves or has loved a dog I highly recommend 'I am Nelson'

I love reading books that are from a dog's POV. They are so few and far between, so when I find one, I grab it! I am SO glad I did with Nelson! I love this book! It is full of heart felt emotions... joy, cuteness, humor, and a bit of sadness, and most of all, it's full of LOVE. You really need to read this book if you love dogs! You will not regret it. I can't recommend it enough. It's a part of a series, so if you'll excuse me, I'm going on to the next one to enjoy.

The dog is so very cute. His actions not so cute. Not trying to be critical, but a dog that bites or leaves scars is not cute or funny. I love dogs antics but not one that's disposition is not very well behaved. Wish his story was about being sweet and kind and well behaved. I do realize that you loved your dog and miss him terribly and I am only one voice and I am sure others loved the story, I am not trying to be unkind but I couldn't finish the story for I can't understand the point of telling how he bit so many people and alot of them carried the marks of being bit.
But the good note is he definitely was a very cute dog. Loved the pictures.

Dog lovers will appreciate this book! Especially those who have dogs with strong personalities and, shall we say, foibles(?) by which they might be judged by outsiders. I have a Jack Russell mix, whom I love with my whole heart, but who is often misunderstood by others, until they get to know him well. So i completely understand Martina's love for Nelson, and him for her. I'm so sorry Martina and her hubby only had Nelson for 11 years. I rescued Spencer over 14 years ago, and he's still going gangbusters.

I especially loved the photo album included with the book. I'm going to tell my Spencer Tracy to look out for Nelson when he goes. He loves to play with toys and other dogs, but he is very picky. I know he'll love Nelson! It's so nice to know I'll still have him around, too. Thank you for that!

Looking forward to the next book 💓🐾

I enjoyed this sweet little story, but found it to go on and and when fewer words would have been sufficient... not bad just a writing style that is not my favorite. I wondered while reading the story if dog spoiling is common in the UK. Here in the USA we currently have two dogs. We make the rules not our K9. While I enjoyed the book I did not find this dog's bad behavior cute or endearing. But still I will read the next book. I would recommend this book for traveling as it is an easy read and works to set aside and pick up again.

I absolutely loved this book. I found it well written, funny and also heartbreakingly sad at times, so a mix of emotions which is inevitable if you love dogs. I could relate to this book easily I think as Nelson being the narrator is totally charming!

5.0 out of 5 stars A dog's eye view of life!

A lovely book, both humorous and sad that illustrates beautifully the great impact pets have on our lives and vice versa. It captures often through Nelson's eyes, through anecdote and pure fact the special bonds formed, the great love and happiness found when Nelson finds his forever home.
As heartwarming as it is poigniant in the great sense of loss and pain felt when Nelson dies, it really is like losing one of the family. You can't help but smile and chuckle whilst picturing Nelson getting up to his antics, but be sure to keep a tissue close to hand.

it was such a wonderful story about a dog “Nelson”. Funny and sad so beautifully told. The music that you could download at the end had me in tears reminding me of all the dogs I have loved over the years. If you are a dog lover as I am you won’t be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The joy of life with a dog in the family
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 5, 2023
I absolutely loved this book! I've had dogs in my life for over forty years and I could really relate to the joys and sorrows of having dog members in my family. I loved the insight the writer gives into a dogs way of thinking. The loss is the loss of a family member so the feelings of grief are strong. I cried at the sad parts and enjoyed the humorous stories. I hope the writer considers rescuing another dog, not as a replacement, but to bring back the joy of a dog as part of her and her partners daily lives.
