- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2019I signed up for Amazon for this review because I had to tell you about this book. Was an absolute fantastic read and want to give a few points of what makes this series so great!!
I don't want to give too much of the story away, but the main things I enjoyed were:
-The story subverts the classic tropes of a hero origin story and points the spotlight in directions I wouldn't necessary expect.
-The main characters were well plotted out and every open thread in the story related to a character either had a closed loop in the plot or had foreshadowings to future rabbit holes that the story can explore. No "Lost" vibes where there's too many story threads being created and conclusions are rushed.
-80's/90's action movie and modern pop culture references. There's a couple background characters and lines that are a total callback to when practical movie effects and bad assery was at an all-time Hollywood high that were really fun and unexpected.
-The art stood out to me as especially high quality for an indie comic. Some action scenes were really reminiscent of Marvel (And some of the artists even did work on Marvel comics before so that's no surprise)
-Fast pacing. Doesn't belabor line after line of expository dialogue and philosophical topics. They're there, but it's not to the extent of like, Tolkien telling us about blades of grass for 12 pages.
-A labor of love. You can tell that there's some serious care that went into both the story direction and the art direction. There's a reason why there's been an abundance of glowing positive reviews for Identity than your average release of an indie comic. The style of the book even reminds you of a VHS tape and the polish on it is phenomenal.
-Surprising amount of respect given from notable creatives. Outside of the great reviews out there, there's been positive comments from names like Jimmy Palmiotti (Paper Films, Harley Quinn, Daredevil), Jeff Kline (Jackie Chan Adventures, Max Steel) and even Kevin Smith had some kind words on the Fatman on Batman podcast!
I would say the only things I wish they could've done more with is the backstory on some of the secondary characters (but then the pacing would suffer) and the art was more consistent from issue 1 compared to the rest of the issues. I didn't personally mind some changes in character designs as the action really worked better, but there's a shift in style from the initial issue.
Hoping for more great stories in future releases!!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2021An adrenaline rush of 80s/90s action that does not let up! Stunt man Sami Nasser finds himself caught in the middle of a punch first ask questions never vigilante and his psychotic delusional arch-nemesis. With snappy dialogue and gorgeous art, it's an action-packed roller coaster from start to finish. The world crafted in these 4 issues is intense and worthy of all your attention.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2019The book arrived in immaculate condition. My smile grew wider in appreciation of the pulp fiction style 80’s/90’s action/grind house style, offering a stunning preview of what’s to come. This is an action story, plain and simple. The plot, tongue-in-cheek, is of a super hero whose identity is compromised. What ensues is page after page epic action slug-fest and throwing around the antagonists’ bright and dazzling powers (truly comes to life with the art from J Briscoe Allison and Juancho Velez). Applause to the entire production team, with special appreciation for Joe R. Khachadourian for developing and writing this series. Excellent work!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2023I found IDENTITY STUNT by accident, and was so intrigued by the concept of a stuntman on the run after being mistaken for a vigilante, I added the book to my Christmas list that very second. It was by far my favorite gift that year, and as a longtime comic book lover, IDENITY STUNT remains one of my favorite comics of the last few years, easily besting almost anything put out by the larger corporate machines.
The story itself is energetic and compelling, while the craft of the storytelling is clean and organized, running the reader smoothly alongside the protagonists paces in a way that feels natural and believable. And I use "believable" with intent, here, because despite being a comic book, none of the elements in play feel out of place.
When creating a comic book, it's easy to lose your footing, to go for the big swing because you can, but such is Joe Khachadourian's writing that even with every new twist or turn, I never once felt pulled out of the story. It all works, which any comic book creator will know is high praise.
To complement the writing, the art by J Briscoe Allison hits all the right notes, evoking J. Scott Campbell in all the best ways. The line art is tight, and each character is distinct in their visuals to match the personalities crafted by Khachadourian in his script. The action is clean and easily understood, with just enough flair to make it all exciting.
I could go on and on, but I'll say just this in closing: I come back to this book a lot, when I need a quick, fun read or want to read something I know delivers. If you enjoy comics--or if you want to enjoy comics again--read this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2020If you're old enough to have had the privilege of growing up in the 80s-90s watching the greatest action movies Hollywood has ever churned out, or even if you're not and just appreciate them through memes and retro references, you will absolutely love this. For some reason I kept getting flashbacks of one of my favorite 80s/90s movies, FX (& FX/2), which was about a special effects expert who used his skills to fight bad guys in real-life circumstances. In this case it's a stunt man, not a special effects pro, but the spirit carries through! Do yourself a favor and pick this up. The story is gripping, the dialogue is smart, and the artwork is fantastic.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2020This is my second copy of Identity Stunt I've purchased. I gave away my first one to a friend and I loved it so much I wanted a replacement. Joe is a brilliant writer and imagines a world of high action. If you are a fan of the Fall Guy, great mash-ups of the action genre and high concept drama, Identity Stunt will be your jam!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2020Great read. Love the mix of 90s art and story telling and the nice twist that make you want to read the next volume.
