I Have Asked to be Where No Storms Come Kindle Edition
A weird west alternate history horror novel set in Hell. “…like Stephen King and Cormac McCarthy teaming up to reboot Dante’s Inferno as a Western.”—Michael Pogach
The facts of Domino Bluepoint's afterlife are simple in this horror adventure: he's a half-breed witch from a people without a name, and no one wants to be stuck in Hell with witch blood.
When a demon bounty-hunter comes calling, Domino pairs up with his mother, who died too young and carries the witch lineage in her veins, to survive. Soon the two of them are Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid running from whatever torture awaits them and whoever wants to harvest their magic.
Yet, Domino doesn't know that his brother, Wicasah, is behind this and is desperate to resurrect Domino out of long-lasting guilt and a sensation of belonging to no place and no one.
As Wicasah dives deeper into darker magic that ends in an ill-made deal, Domino must overcome addiction, depression, and hone his own brand of witch-magic to help save his brother—and the world—from an ancient god.
I Have Asked to be Where No Storms Come is perfect for fans of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, supernatural fiction, dark fantasy, adult horror books.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "I Have Asked to Be Where No Storms Come, by Gwendolyn Nix, is like Stephen King and Cormac McCarthy teaming up to reboot Dante's Inferno as a Western. Nix creates a unique and fully realized alternate reality of Hell and witchcraft that offers an incredibly immersive read. One of the most original novels I've read in a long time."—Michael Pogach, Raphael Ward series
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "Rarely do I come across horror fiction with such imaginative elements. Much like Clive Barker's more fantastic works, I Have Asked to be Where No Storms Come immerses readers in a fully realized world, and it feels much larger than what can ever be put to the page."—J.W. Donely, Epeolaptry Book Reviews via The Horror Tree
★ ★ ★ ★ ★"I Have Asked to be Where No Storms Come delivers a stunningly original and surreal vision. The recipe is a dollop of dark fantasy, a splash of grimdark, and a copy of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas that has been soaked in acid for a week. Mix well and drink while holding your nose."—Jason Fischer, Papa Lucy and the Boneman

About the author

Since its founding in August 2012, Crystal Lake Publishing has quickly become one of the world’s leading publishers of Dark Fiction and Horror books in print, eBook, and audio formats.
While we strive to present only the highest quality fiction and entertainment, we also endeavour to support authors along their writing journey. We offer our time and experience in non-fiction projects, as well as author mentoring and services, at competitive prices.
With several Bram Stoker Award wins and many other wins and nominations, Crystal Lake Publishing puts integrity, honor, and respect at the forefront of our publishing operations.
We strive for each book and outreach program we spearhead to not only entertain and touch or comment on issues that affect our readers, but also to strengthen and support the Dark Fiction field and its authors.
Not only do we find and publish authors we believe are destined for greatness, but we strive to work with men and woman who endeavour to be decent human beings who care more for others than themselves, while still being hard working, driven, and passionate artists and storytellers.
Crystal Lake Publishing is and will always be a beacon of what passion and dedication, combined with overwhelming teamwork and respect, can accomplish. We endeavour to know each and every one of our readers, while building personal relationships with our authors, reviewers, bloggers, podcasters, bookstores, and libraries.
We will be as trustworthy, forthright, and transparent as any business can be, while also keeping most of the headaches away from our authors, since it’s our job to solve the problems so they can stay in a creative mind. Which of course also means paying our authors.
We do not just publish books, we present to you worlds within your world, doors within your mind, from talented authors who sacrifice so much for a moment of your time.
There are some amazing small presses out there, and through collaboration and open forums we will continue to support other presses in the goal of helping authors and showing the world what quality small presses are capable of accomplishing. No one wins when a small press goes down, so we will always be there to support hardworking, legitimate presses and their authors. We don’t see Crystal Lake as the best press out there, but we will always strive to be the best, strive to be the most interactive and grateful, and even blessed press around. No matter what happens over time, we will also take our mission very seriously while appreciating where we are and enjoying the journey.
What do we offer our authors that they can’t do for themselves through self-publishing?
We are big supporters of self-publishing (especially hybrid publishing), if done with care, patience, and planning. However, not every author has the time or inclination to do market research, advertise, and set up book launch strategies. Although a lot of authors are successful in doing it all, strong small presses will always be there for the authors who just want to do what they do best: write.
What we offer is experience, industry knowledge, contacts and trust built up over years. And due to our strong brand and trusting fanbase, every Crystal Lake Publishing book comes with weight of respect. In time our fans begin to trust our judgment and will try a new author purely based on our support of said author.
To date we’ve published around 100 books, and with each launch we strive to fine-tune our approach, learn from our mistakes, and increase our reach. We continue to assure our authors that we’re here for them and that we’ll carry the weight of the launch and dealing with third parties while they focus on their strengths—be it writing, interviews, blogs, signings, etc.
We also offer several mentoring packages to authors that include knowledge and skills they can use in both traditional and self-publishing endeavours.
We look forward to launching many new careers.
This is what we believe in. What we stand for. This will be our legacy.
Welcome to Crystal Lake Publishing—Tales from the Darkest Depths.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2022Domino’s tale of love, loss, and seeking is all encompassing, and told in a world fully built in a mind bending fantastical manner with a rich magic system and fully wrought characters. If you enjoy books like Stephen King’s Dark Tower series or grimdark fantasy, then this one will delight and entertain.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2022I feel as if this is one of these books that once you pick it up you won't be able to put it down. Its an interesting find and I'm liking it more and more every time I turn the page.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2022I finished this book in the middle of the night because I just couldnt put it down. WOW is the best thing I can say about it.
Different from most horror books I've read before, It really gives you a different look at Hell. A tale of a boy and his Mama.
I requested a copy of this book from the publisher for my personal reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2022We meet Domino Bluepoint in a dust bowl version of hell with little water, lots of alcohol, and demon bones for drugs. Domino arrived there because he is a witch, as is his mother an both can sell their blood for its magical properties. But there’s a lot more to Gwendolyn Nix’s I Have Asked To Be Where No Storms Come (ebook from booksgosocial) which thn gives the back story of the two brothers who grew up in the dustbowl southwest of the 30's. I hope this finds some award nominations.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2022At its heart, I Have Asked to Be Where No Storms Come is a tale of two brothers desperately struggling to protect each other. Aside from the beautifully written characters and relationships, I loved the way Nix used magic as something that both helps and hurts the users, which is something I rarely see in novels.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2022I didn't like the beginning because the style of presents the environment of the hell was extremely hard to follow. It was really when the actual character action begins to follow. I think this was extremely for me to read and follow. By the ending the style for the characters was more enjoyment.I found the reading to very slow.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2022Loved the mixing of genres: witches, horror, the "Wild West."
