I See The Light: An Elves After Dark Book Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 182 ratings

Can a little Christmas magic give a half human half elf a place to finally belong?

Heath had always been a misfit—a weirdo who wore tank tops and shorts on the coldest days. He even claimed his dog could talk to him.

Then, there was a mysterious light he saw every Christmas Eve coming from the woods - mysterious because Heath was the only one who could see it.

The night before Christmas, with the silliest plan in mind and his coward dog tagging along, he set out to find the true source of this enchanting light. What he ends up finding, however, would be beyond anything he could have ever imagined - a family he never knew he had, the magic he was yet to discover and a newfound friend in a handsome guy named Shea.
Faced with a decision to make, can Heath make the perfect choice that will bring him true happiness?

I See The Light is a clean holiday romance between young, gay adults as they discover their attraction toward each other in the fantasy world of magic! The story has an HFN ending.

Last night I needed a distraction—you know how 2020 has been. Usually I gravitate toward pure angst in books, but I was in the mood for something different. Something lighter, something hopeful. On Facebook, I’d noticed that Arden O’Keefe’s contribution to Elves After Dark series, I See the Light, had received many positive reviews, so I picked up my Kindle and a few seconds later it was mine.

What a sweet surprise from a new-to-me author! Right off the bat I knew that O’Keefe is a consummate storyteller. It was as if I was reading a fairy tale designed for adults, like me, who desperately need to step away from the many worries of politics and the pandemic into a world where there’s a brilliant light in the distance that signifies truth and hope. The optimism and purity in O’Keefe’s author’s voice shined through—the perfect remedy for my jaded 2020 outlook.

The characters are uncomplicated and sincere—the kind that make you smile while reading and avidly root for them. And I See the Light’s plot offered more twists and turns than I expected from a holiday tale. I devoured the story in one evening. (I actually read right through The Rachel Maddow Show—my absolute favorite—and that is saying something!) The story provided the necessary attitude adjustment to prepare me for a holiday season that will be unlike any of the others I have celebrated. Focusing on the importance of the simple satisfaction of doing right for its own sake, even when it isn’t easy.

Thanks, Arden, for the much-needed escape. I whole heartedly recommend I See the Light for much-needed attitude adjustment as we enter the holiday season!

I See the Light is the fifth romantic MM story in Elves After Dark series.
MM, Fantasy Romance, Hurt-Comfort, Holidays-Christmas, Sweet and Cute. Clean romance. 2 POVs. Third person. Past tense. 124 pages. Published November 20th 2020.

This title's a feelings evoking Christmas story. On the outside it's light, on the inside not really altogether that much. It's actually much heavier than I expected and contains also sad aspects. I expected something light when going in. I was in the mood for that for a change but I got much more and something else. I'm still glad I happened to choose it. It's got touching themes and main characters as well as story. I liked the writing. The reason why I deducted points is because it wasn't really what it appeared to be. Then for the kind-of-HEA. It's nicer to get it officially locked nice and tight and not left at all open in any manner. Most of us want it. I know I do. Not that it left much doubt, but, but. I also found the system a bit weird - if very original which of course is very good. It did keep me awake and curiously reading to finish at one sitting. I didn't love it, but I liked it, and I think I'll have to give this author further chance when I get to it :)

Not a bad Christmas story all in all if you're in the mood for one, though I'd recommend this for moments when you want and can deal with something else besides total light fun and fluff. This one's a bit deeper than that.

This was a cute read. It was quite original in its writing and so too within its overall plot. It definitely considers another side to whole Christmas Elves aspect; I don’t think that’s something I ever thought to read before.

It did take me a bit to understand the dialogue shifts between Heath and the animals, but the idea of being able to communicate with animals is intriguing to me. Almost like Heath was the elf (eh part elf) version of Dr. Dolittle.

The guardian factor of the elves in this world was something I wish could have been explored a bit more. I also admired Heath for confronting the choice of having to essentially halve half of who he was.

Now, the story did end in a way that felt like that was more to be added. It had me wondering about Shea and his possible decision to reclaim his human half. I hoped for a more definitive ending in regards to that decision and for the blossoming relationship between Shea and Heath.

Heath knew he had never truly fit in with the rest of the folks in his town but he never knew why. Imagine his surprise when he decides to find the light in the woods that appears every year on the night before Christmas. What he finds is elves and magic. He also has to make a choice. This was a cute little Christmas story. Heath challenges the rules the elves expect him to follow and questions what is really right or wrong. Does someone really have to choose? Shea is an elf that never questioned it, but Heath challenges him in ways he never expected. I enjoyed this story and would honestly like to see more about these characters.

Heath has been rejected by humans all his life for being different or weird. He's been bullied by peers and even his own mother ditched him. Only his grandmother stood by him and then she passes away.

Heath sees a light in the woods every year at Christmas and this year he plans on finding the source.

This is a super cute story. Sad because of how Heaths life has been so far. But then he meets Shea and things become more clear. There is a sweet innocent friendship/romance between Heath and Shea.

It is a fluffy, young adult read thats perfect for the season.

This is a good story if you are looking for a sweet Christmas story. Heath and Shea are sweet. I thought Heath was a little to stubborn though. So I was a little bothered by how it was so easy for him to insist the rules were broken, and there didn't seem to be a consequence to that. Also his choice at the end didn't really make sense based on how he was treated. There is very little romance in the book. It is a sweet book if you are just looking for some Christmas cheer, but not if you are looking for a romance.

An elf adventure story with romance.
A sad begining for a 5 year old special boy seeing his mum walk away. Years being cared for his Gran he grows with having an infinity for aminals well more than that. He meets Shae and the story progresses. Includes elfs, magic, good blessings and the not so good mixed with adventure. Life throws some twists in for Health or maybe just Fate. A really great story written well to enjoy with a HEA ending.
Health 20 as a vets assistant and Christmas was a time he'd see the lights.

Normally I am not one for Christmas stories but this one looked so sweet and I wasn't wrong.
Heath has had to deal with alot, and the first few pages really broke my heart but then it was magically sewing together plus there is Leo, no spoilers but he has to be the cutest thing ever.
This book will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit and comes highly recommended.

This was a cute fun read. Was it perfectly written? No. However, it was cute. It had a bit of a cheesy Hallmark feel, which I love. And honestly, we all deserve some cheesy gay romance for Christmas.

I would recommend this to people for a fun holiday read. And I have such a bad memory, that I'll probably read it next Christmas and be pleasantly surprised again.

A sweet story full of Christmas magic. There is romance, but the emphasis is mainly on the whole meaning and spirit of the season. Cute read.
