I’m not usually a fan of love triangles, but this one was amazing!
Aedon, Wren, and Ashe are co-workers and friends. All three of them are highly skilled doctors/surgeons, and this leads them to start a business that sends medical aid to areas that are plagued with disaster, such as an earthquake or terrorist attack. As soon as they hear that their assistance is needed, they rush to the area that has been affected, rendering emergency treatments that will keep their patients stable until they can reach a hospital. A typical day for them can range anywhere from putting a splint on a broken bone, to drilling a hole in someone’s skull to keep their brain from swelling. Aedon, Wren, and Ashe each have their own specialty, and they make a phenomenal team. They are often joined by other doctors and nurses on the field in order to serve more people as fast as they can. Ander is the brains of the operation. He notifies them when a disaster strikes, sets up their travel arrangements, and tells them exactly where to go. They can all communicate with each other, even across long distances. Ander alerts Aedon, Ashe, and Wren with updates on the situation, which helps keep them out of harms way, and ensures that they are finding the safest way to help. Ander lets them know where the most urgent need is, and tells them what to expect when they arrive at their destination.
Ashe is madly in love with Aedon. They were in a serious relationship at one time, but Ashe’s mental illness and refusal to help himself tore them apart. Ashe never stopped loving Ashe. He knows that he hurt her, and he can’t seem to forgive himself. He wants Aedon, but feels that she deserves to be with someone better than him, someone who doesn’t have to rely on prescription drugs to keep them sane. Wren is also in love with Aedon, and wants to be with her more than anything in the world. Aedon loves Wren as a best friend, but nothing more. They knew each other before they met Ashe, and had a brief fling. Aedon regrets leading Wren on, and feels bad for making him feel like she feels something more. Every time Aedon is around Ashe, the feelings she had for him keep creeping back in and threaten to overtake her. Aedon doesn’t know what to do. She doesn’t want to hurt her best friend, but she can’t deny the way she feels. She wants Ashe, but she’s afraid of getting her heart broken again. If Ashe falls back into his old ways, she doesn’t know if she’ll be able to handle it. Aedon tries to keep her longing for Ashe hidden. Ashe suspects that Wren has feeings for Aedon, and this makes him jealous. However, he doesn’t want to reveal his true feelings for fear of pushing Aedon away. Wren wants to have a relationship with Aedon, but he knows that, deep down, she has never gotten over Ashe, and doesn’t think that she’ll love him the way she loved Ashe.
Aedon’s, Ashe’s, and Wren’s work takes them across the country, and even around the world. They try to remain “just friends”, but how long will that last? Will Aedon ever be able to make a choice? If so, who will it be? Will the three of them remain close, or will their feelings tear them apart? Can they work together and separate business from pleasure? Will any of them find happiness?
I absolutely love all of the characters in “Imperfect”. That doesn’t happen very often for me. I’m very picky, so it’s hard to find a book in which I feel a connection with all of the characters. Even though this was a work of fiction, it is so realistic that it could easily be real life. It was easy to get sucked into the story, and once you start reading, it’s almost impossible to put down. The storyline flows easily. The passion is raw and intense, and the drama and suspense is nothing short of captivating. At some point, you will be angry, heartbroken, and happy with each character of “Imperfect”. The only negative thing I have to say about this book is that the ending was sort of chopped off. The story came to a halt, then skipped some time. It starts to pick up again, then ends abruptly. Despite that, I loved this book, and I would definitely recommend it!
