In for the Win (Against the Cage Book 5) Kindle Edition
Kyle Scott’s talent for fighting paved the way for a career he never wanted, but needed to survive. Five years later, he doesn’t recognize the man he’s become. All his focus and energy has been poured into raising his little sister, leaving no time or interest for anything beyond a casual hook-up—until he meets a woman who sends his life spiraling out of control.
Penelope Cantrel isn’t looking for love, but she’s always down for a good time. If she keeps everyone at a distance, they can’t discover how broken she is, or the secrets she’s running from. When she crosses paths with the sexy MMA fighter, Kyle’s reputation as a cage-banging manwhore doesn’t concern her. She isn’t interested in a commitment. But after their white-hot attraction leads to a night of mind-blowing sex, neither of them will ever be the same again.
When Pen starts receiving threatening messages, her deepest fears are realized as she becomes the obsession of a man who will kill to possess her. Concerned for her safety, Kyle offers to pose as her boyfriend to deter her unwanted admirer, but his heated touches and those not-so-innocent kisses don’t feel like he’s acting. Could the infamous playboy be falling for her?
As the threat against Pen escalates, her stalker is closer than they thought. Kyle is the only thing standing between her and a madman, but she fears trusting him with her secrets could be a fatal mistake.

If you’re like me and you love a good guy saves girl romance, but also prefer heroines that can hold their own and aren’t totally helpless, you’ll love this book.
Pen is amazing. She of course has a tragic past that she deals with as best she can, but she’s tough and doesn’t just roll over.
Kyle is great too. He’s protective but not totally overwhelming.
The story line has a lot of suspense. You slowly uncover what happened to Pen, while simultaneously working through the mystery of who is stalking her now.
Overall, great characters, great story line.
The only negative point for me is that it’s written in the third person. I really wish it was in the first. It would make it much easier and pleasant to read. I normally never read books written this way, but after loving the first in the series, I had to keep going and I’m glad I did.
Highly recommended.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2017Really enjoy this series. I liked the book but it was a little bit of a rehash of the prior books but from their point of view, still a good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2019Absolutely loved Pen and Kyle's story. It had just the right mix of drama, humor and scorching heat. His patience and determination was impressive especially with Pen having so many walls to breakdown. Well done.

Kyle and Pen have been two of the characters that I’ve been curious, both separately and together as a possible couple for awhile thanks to their appearances throughout the series and the hints of their something more going on between them. So, getting my hands on this book was a no brainer and holy hell did I get all of my questions answered and more. This book had my heart breaking even when I wanted to reach out and smack some sense into both of them. It was a definite emotional rollercoaster that kept me turning the pages until the very end.
Kyle. *sigh* Kyle, Kyle, Kyle. So here’s the thing. I had a bit of a rocky road with the man. A large part of me LOVED the man’s heart. It’s so golden and when he truly cares about someone, he’s all in, but it’s all done in a very black and white manner, there is no grey zone in his world and that’s where we had difficulties. But regardless of a few issues, Kyle is that guy you’d want in your corner because he is that man who cares and who’s honor means the world to him.
Penelope. Sassy, confident, vibrant take what she wants Pen is all that and more...on the outside. On the inside? Well, that space is a lot more murky. Her past still haunts her and has her building walls around herself to keep everything out, including that which she needs most. My heart broke for Pen and all that she had been put through, whether because of others or herself, and there were times when I got frustrated with the lines she refused to cross, but regardless of those lines she couldn’t stop from caring about those who mattered to her the most.
Kyle and Pen’s journey was, from the beginning, a tad bit unconventional and had it’s fair share of angst and tears, but it was definitely an addicting one. They pushed and tested each other throughout the book and through it came to some hard truths about their lives and what they wanted out of it. But through the ups and downs they found that they could give each other what the needed without losing anything. The chemistry between them was hot and I really liked who they were when they were together.
In For The Win was a fun read, a little bit of smexy, a little bit of mystery and suspense, a little angst and a lot of heart. As to the question of if this one can be read as a standalone? Well...This is one of those books where it’s a toss up for me because of where it falls in the timeline of the series. You can, but I think you’d get more out of it if you at least read Fighting for Control and Grappling for Position first, if not go back and start at the beginning. I know, I’m no help at the moment...blame it on me being a Libra. But, I liked where everything as a whole was at in the end and am definitely looking forward to seeing what’s coming up next for the series!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2017Before I go into my review, I want to share with you how long I've waiting for this book; okay well not too too long but it's definitely been over a year but that's okay. Here it goes:
After reading Fighting for Control (Against the Cage book 3), I had to know Penelope and Kyle's story. In fact, I went as far as leaving a comment on Facebook about wanting the more about Penelope and Kyle's relationship; also I was not alone in this so don't judge. But the ever so clever and talented Melynda Price, came out with Reagan and Willows story, which I didn't mind because 1) who doesn't want to read a story about wanting someone so bad, you'd do anything to get them 2) young love and 3) this kept me distracted until she released Pen and Kyle's story.
If you've read the last 4 Against the Cage books, then you already know that the series intertwines and if you haven't then I suggest you stop reading this review and pick up book 1, Win by Submission right now!!!
In for the Win opens up about Kyle "The Killer" Scott and Penelope "Pen" Cantrel's past and how that's molded them into the people they are today. From the previous books, we slowly learn bits and pieces about Kyle's story. Again, I strongly suggest you read the series. His parents were killed in a car accident and he almost lost his baby sister twice (I won't go too much into detail so that I'm not spoiling the series); so for the last five years, he's basically given up his life, his identity, and his possibility of a future for himself, by becoming a famous MMA fighter so that he can care and provide for his little sister, Willow. And this, in turn, leaves little to no time for something meaningful like a relationship or even love. This of course changes when he meets the independent hell-cat, Penelope Cantrel.
Penelope Cantrel has rules and she doesn't dare to break them. She's not in it for love, she's in it for a good time and a good time she gets after one night with Kyle "The Killer" Scott, whom she sees as a sexy MMA fighter/manwhore, however, that manwhore tidbit doesn't phase her, in fact, it's perfect because Pen keeps everyone she knows at a distance, she doesn't want them to see how badly her dark past has broken her. A past that has broken her to the point that she's shut down and buried her emotions, hiding behind a mask and meaningless one night stands. Well, what do you get when you throw Kyle and Pen together in a room? One smoking hot night of mind blowing sex! And dare I say feelings?
So it's no surprise that Kyle offers to play hero/boyfriend to Pen when she starts receiving threatening messages from an obsessed stalker. The walls that she's spent building for years to protect her from her past demons are slowing crumbling away with every one of Kyle's touches and kisses. Pen is reluctant to let her self believe that the MMA manwhore is falling for her because she's sworn to herself that she will never give that control and trust over to another human being ever, and that's what Kyle wants from Pen, total control and trust.
As the threats begin to escalate and Kyle opens up and asks for more, Pen is torn between guarding her deepest and darkest secret from Kyle and risk losing him, or risk losing him by not submitting her heart and telling him the truth.
Melynda Price definitely went in with this story and won! She wrote Pen and Kyle's story with so much heart, ache, and raw emotions. I felt for Penelope, reading about her truth made my heart pang with sadness. She comes off as a strong, independent, and care free woman but really she's a survivor, a woman who's been broken but refuses to stop living, and she inspires to move on but it's her vulnerability and yearning for love and affection that made me love and respect her. Reading about Kyle's selfless acts, made me love him even more! Manwhore acts aside, I found myself wanting to give him a big tight hug (and maybe even cop a feel).
I'm giving In for the Win 5 taps, or stars LOL Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this series
I've loved this series a lot, but this book needs some editing. The timeline is different too. In the previous book, Willow & Regan had been together for about 6 weeks... then in this book (same conversation but from the other persons POV), it was suddenly 6 months... Then a little further, it was "more than half a year"....
Other than that and some typos, its actually a great read and I'll continue to read this story and others written by the author.
