Healing Our Hearts (Irish Hearts Book 1) Kindle Edition
Kathleen O’Hagan used to love life. She had plans, dreams, and faith in life; but that was before the accident that took it all away from her in an instant. Now that her beloved brother is dead and she’s confined to a wheelchair, her future is but a dark cloud hovering above her head. How can she ever find the will to move on and keep living without him?
That’s when he comes along.
Colin Byrne has been a physiotherapist in Dublin for almost five years, but he’s never bonded with a patient like he is bonding with Kathleen. There’s something about those sad blue eyes that makes him want to help her, to take away the pain that reminds him so much of his own.
That’s when something changes.
The more time they spend together, the stronger their feelings for each other grow. But Kathleen doesn’t want to be anyone’s burden and Colin doesn’t think he’s worthy of love. Finding a way to heal their hearts seems impossible, until an angelic presence comes into their lives to help them fulfill their destiny.
Sometimes love can work miracles—if you believe.

Discovering books by Rosamunde Pilcher was the turning point in her life, and she decided to start writing down the stories that kept playing in her head, just for fun. - Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBy the time most of us have reached adulthood, we have suffered the loss of someone close to us. It’s a part of life and we learn we must go on living without the one we’ve lost, even though the unbearable hurt we feel is sometimes overwhelming. The concepts of life after death, Angels, and loved ones looking out for us even after they are gone can be very comforting at times. The concepts of destiny and good coming from tragedy can be very discomforting at times. HUGGED BY AN ANGEL is a sweet romance, but the book deals with so much more than the fluff of a lot of romance stories.
After reading the short story I’M YOUR ANGEL (available through the author’s newsletter,) I couldn’t wait to read the rest of the story of Declan, his sister Kathy, and Colin. I started with the HUGGED BY AN ANGEL prequel included in BEFORE US, a collection of prequel shorts and immediately bought the full HUGGED BY AN ANGEL ebook! I can’t wait to read the sequel, SAVED BY AN ANGEL!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a beautiful, poignant love story and I just fell in love with Kathleen and Colin. Such wonderful young people. They are very young to an 86 year old lady. LOL. Thank you.

Great book. I loved it.
Kathleen was going to fulfill one of her dreams. She was going to live in New York with her brother Declan. But a traffic accident took it all away. Her dreams, the mobility of her legs and Declan, her best friend, the person who understood her.
At the hospital, she met Colin, the doctor who was going to treat her. He told her about her brother's death. He, who had suffered a similar loss, wanted to be by her side, to help her smile.
They didn't expect it, but they both fell in love. He didn't want to get close to her. She was breaking down the walls of his heart. She thought he couldn't love her, because she wasn't a normal person. She tried to push him away. She didn't think he can love her, that he can endure being with her all his life, without having a normal life. He told her that he wanted her, to wait for her. He didn't know how to prove it. And she was unable to see it. She needed help from her brother.
I cried a lot.
I loved Colin and Kathleen. He was a nice man, she was a lovely girl. They were perfect for each other.
I loved 'ghost' Declan. I would like to know more about 'human' Declan.
It was easy to empathize with Kathleen, with her suffering, and also with Colin.
They both fear that their families will reject them. He, because they would think he took advantage of her. And she, for not being enough in the eyes of her grandmother.
I loved that Kathleen and David reconciled. She believed that he hated her, and he believed that she didn't want to be with him, to spend time together.
Also, I loved that she recognized she wasn't the only one who suffers. Everyone had lost Declan. Everyone suffered. David had made himself strong, for his parents, for her. He lost his best friend, he was also going to live with him, and he couldn't cry.
I recommend it.
I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2013Format: Kindle3/3.5 out of 5 Stars: These characters were wonderful. Colin is amazing and Kathleen, with all that happened in her life her loss and handling waking up and finding out she could feel your legs. When she got angry, I felt her anger and I never felt that she was a selfish person. You understand that everything and anything is says to Colin is so that he does not get hurt.
"I don't mean to hurt you, Colin. I'd never want to hurt you."
"You're hurting me now, in case you hadn't realized."
It was a beautiful and touching story. However, it was hard for me to rate because I really liked the characters and the story, but some parts fell short for me.
Nonetheless, Colin and Kathleen both experienced lose and I like the way the author showed how these two characters helped each other. Friendship grew into so much more. The book showed how even when things are at their lowest, there is hope and that sometimes love can work miracles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a simple love story
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was lucky enough to be a beta reader for this author, even managing to get a mention in the credits.
This story is a simple, slow burning, love story first and foremost. But there are also elements of self belief, strength and forgiveness within it.
Kathleen had made plans to move to America with her brother Declan. They were happily planning a future when tragedy struck at the worst possible time for them. Kathleen loses her beloved brother and finds herself injured and unable to walk. Understandably she is angry at what has happened, and also at herself for still being alive.
It is the job of physiotherapist Colin to help Kathleen in her recovery. Colin also suffered a huge personal loss years before, and he empathises with Kathleen in more ways than she first realises.
Working together brings out emotions in both Kathleen and Colin which they try to fight. Kathleen believes she has nothing to give, while Colin wants to look after her and help in her recovery.
Not only does the storyline help Kathleen, it also in turn helps Colin and Kathleen's brother, David, to move on with their lives and app finally accept what has happened.
The author manages to produce a story which, for someone who is not religious in any way, had me believing in angels. Reading this I found myself crying at a lot of the scenes, and hoping that somewhere my own personal angel was looking out for me.
This is such a change from a lot of stories being produced these days because it is such a simple love story. There are no supernatural elements as such, and it is a well written story. I feel privileged to have been able to read this story and help it become, in even a small way, the story it is today.
The author asked me a while ago to choose a few quotes to help with promote the book. Below are 2 of the ones I chose -
“I had just turned twenty-three when I nearly died.
I was in my car, on the way to Dublin airport, where I should have been taking a direct flight to New York, with my brother and best friend, Declan. We had plans to start a new life there; I’d spent my college years planning everything down to the last detail, and I was just a step away from making my dream come true.
But I never got to the airport.
I never boarded that plane.
On a cold January day, the day I’d waited so long for, fate took everything from me, leaving me hollow and broken.
On a cold January day, my life lost its meaning–although back then I didn’t know it would all make sense when the time was right.
I was twenty-three when I met an angel. He didn’t have wings, he didn’t have a halo, but he healed my soul when it had been torn apart, and he gave meaning to my life again.”
“I felt tears filling my eyes, and soon they started running down my cheeks before I could stop them.
“Sweetheart, don’t cry for me; I’m doing great,” he said, smiling. His face was a portrait of serenity.
“Are you...”
“An angel?” he finished my sentence and I nodded. He looked at me, his deep blue eyes sparkling like they never had before. “I’m not only an angel, Kathy. I’m your angel”

5.0 out of 5 stars Bucketful of tears
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA beautiful, highly emotional read. I was blubbering my way through this. This is for everyone who has lost a loved one.
Kathleen is devastated by an accident that leaves her paralysed and her brother snatched away from her. This is her journey as she attempts to rebuild her life, get the use of her legs back and learns to open her heart to a wealth of possibility.
Colin is an Irish/American physiotherapist who is charged with helping her regain the use of her lower body, with the most gorgeous dimples. Colin is no stranger to loss as he is dealing with the loss of his own parents from when he was a teenager.
Together they open their hearts to the possibility of life and love and Colin sees the person behind the injury. Together they find peace of mind and with a little help from an angel, true love and a miracle.
I loved this story - it brought back sad memories of my own loss but equally the idea of lost loved ones being angels is a comforting one. It is something I truly believe and it left me with lots of hope, feeling comforted and a bin full of tissues.
