Purchase options and add-ons

For the reasonable price of $1, Natalie Malone just bought herself an abandoned villa on the Amalfi Coast. With a detailed spreadsheet and an ancient key, she’s arrived in Italy ready to renovate―with only six months to do it. Which seemed reasonable, until architect Pietro Indelicato begins critically watching her every move…

From the sweeping ocean views to the scent of the lemon trees, there’s nothing Pietro loves more than his hometown. And after seeing too many botched jobs and garish design choices, he’s done watching from the sidelines. As far as he’s concerned, Natalie should quit before the project drains her entire bank account
and her ridiculously sunny optimism.

With Natalie determined to move forward, the gorgeous architect reluctantly agrees to pitch in, giving her a real chance to succeed. But when the fine print on Natalie’s contract is brought to light, she might have no choice but to leave her dream―and Pietro―behind.

Traveling without leaving home...
It Takes a Villa check all the boxes for a must-read. This one gives you the feeling of traveling without leaving home. The author did a fantastic job engaging the reader until the last page. The storyline was so realistic and enlightening, with the vivid imagery, political meetings, and the cast of characters all add to moving the story along. Natalie risked it all for $1, a dream and vision of a property in need of TLC. Even though the odds were against her, she was determined not to fail. The care and passion are what drew Pietro to offer a helping hand. As they worked beside each other, I could see the finished project come to light. I enjoyed how the author took care of showing us the details of the steps in each of the project's issues and progress. It was interesting to hear the different perspectives of Pietro and his father about the goals of the town's restoration projects and the obstacles those in the program faced. The lessons in lemons and the Idelicato men's traditions were uniquely endearing and offered a love story within itself. A Fantasy Travel Review: I was delighted to get an invite for the dry run opening of Pensione Malone. I found the stay delightful and the view of Pensione Malone and all its soundings breathtaking. It offered a variety of great amenities making the visit feel like a home away from home. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and decorated with a sense of serenity that made for peaceful relaxation. If you get the opportunity to venture into the surrounding areas of Zavona, stop by some of the local shops, and other newly renovated properties. A must on your to-do list is a tour of the Indelicato Lemon Farm. I hope to make the visit again. I highly recommend this one for your reading pleasure. It is more than just an enjoyable read; it is a wonderful experience.

Well done story set in a beautiful (fictional) area in Italy. It took a few pages to really feel gripped by the story, but once it did it was hard to put down. Edit: (spoiler alert?) beware there are a few steamy pages, which I prefer led to the idea, but the details left to imagination. Edit 2: the pensione was left without a name after mentioning that in the Epilogue and the last few paragraphs fell flat: especially the last one. I finished the book and my literal thought was o.......k....... Changed 5 to 4 stars.

This book is exactly what I was looking for before my staycation. No, I can't actually go to Italy this summer and no I won't be swept off my feet by a hot italian with a good accent and biceps worth licking and I sure as heck won't get a villa... ever. But at least now I can pretend. Which is what all good beach reads are about! The characters are fun and quirky, Italy may as well be a third character and it's a great book to lose yourself in if you're like me and only getting another family vacation where I will cook too many meals and get loved on by mosquitos. Highly recommend!

I’ve never gotten to travel to Italy but have always wanted to. It has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. Reading It Takes a Villa I truly feel as if I have been there. Was totally transported all the way to that little village on the coast.

Kilby does it again! I have not read a book from this author that I have not loved. It Takes a Villa is no exception. Natalie is a strong and smart heroine with a bit heart. Pietro is a hero both romantically and in his community. I love the character building and family relationships. I love the setting. I love these two together.

    ***4 Stars***

A story set in a small, albeit fictional, Italian town?

    Yes, please!

I’m a sucker for small town romances, but Italy is one of my favorite countries and was part of the lure that drew me to this book. That and the whole “$1” for a villa situation ~ because who hasn’t seen those ads?

And though there were part that did drag for me, and a bit of an abrupt (at least to me) ending, I enjoyed my time in Zavona with Natalie, Pietro and the eclectic group of people who we meet along the way.

I really liked Natalie and Pietro. Natalie is a dreamer, but a practical one. She isn’t afraid to put the time and work into getting done what needs to be done, but also has a bit of an issue asking for help. Pietro is honorable, though sometimes gruff and grumpy, but has a good heart and cares far deeper about things than most know.

Their journey to their HEA was quite interesting. They didn’t meet on the best of terms, but soon found that they shared a similar outlook on issues that mattered the most to them. It was fun to watch them become closer, thanks to the renovation and rehabilitation of the villa, and find out that not only was the physical attraction mutual, but that they connected on other levels.

As I said at the start, this was a fun read, but I will admit that there were times when the details about the renovation didn’t hold my interest. Also, that were a few situations that I wished had been fleshed out a bit more, especially that ending, but that’s a it’s not you, it’s me thing. As for the supporting cast of characters. Ellie and Carlota were my favorites, but I really liked the sognatori crew and how they all rallied around each other. So, if you want to take a bit of an Italian holiday at home and have a liking for HGTV DIY house things, then this is a book you should check out!

Reading this book brought back memories of a trip I took to Italy years ago and made me want to go back to that time. I liked that the romance wasn't so in-your-face. It was subtle and very beautiful. This book had two steamy scenes but was a lot more about the slow burn romance than the spicy parts.

It Takes a Villa by Kirby Blades is a fun mix of contemporary romance leaning towards woman’s fiction. Natalie is determined to make a new life for herself in Italy. And the first step is to fix up the villa she purchased for $1. This is a type of program that I’ve seen run in several European areas, but I hadn’t seen it brought into play in a book before. The biggest catch is she only has a short period of time to complete the renovations. And there is a lot to do.

She is not the only person from the rebuilding program living in the area. She connects with a group of fellow re-builders from around the world. They were fun, supportive, and helped her navigate the first few confusing days in Italy. But she also finds herself relying on Pietra, a local man with a love for old buildings and restoration. And he’s quite the expert on how to get it done correctly.

I found Pietro’s conflict with his father – who seems to never really respect Pietro’s expertise – to be one of the most interesting parts of the story. The generational struggle and possible disappointment of not following where your parents thought you should go as an adult is a situation many can relate to. Natalie struggled mostly with repairing her villa in time to meet the program’s deadlines. And while I learned a bit about architecture, it just didn’t draw me in as much as Pietro.

There is plenty of drama, a little catastrophe, and lots of relationships being built. There were a couple of things that really threw me off. The first was the sudden change from what was reading as a fairly clean romance to a spicier romance. While I don’t have a problem with either, the tone of the book changed and it threw me off. The second was the ending. It just sort of stopped. The resolution was there, but then it just cut off and didn’t tell me the wrap-up. Which is one of my favorite parts.

I read with interest awhile ago about the small Italian villages that were trying to entice people to buy a property at unbelievably low prices, and restore it I wondered then how this project would work out if you took on this challenge and changed your life in a major way ie: new culture, new way of living, new friends and opportunities plus no Canadian winter and magnificent scenery . If you have had a similar temptation but not taken the opportunity, then this book will give you a glimpse of what you might have encountered. The author certainly seemed to have some insight to this, describing both the excitement of this huge undertaking and the obstacles and challenges that one would face. Her lead characters Natalia and Pietro work their way through the process and entice us into their lives as their relationship grows. It was a fascinating story that kept my interest throughout.
