Two people with little in common but business give pleasure a shot in a charming romance about fate and taking chances by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst.

The truth? Lonely advertising rep Malia Evergreen is still waiting for a soul mate, marriage, and a family. The lie? Telling every busybody she knows that she’s met someone. Now it’s a matter of finding him. Malia needs a date for a wedding. In a pinch she strikes a bargain with her former client, CEO Palmer Matterson—an arrogant, defiantly single, alpha billionaire whose best quality is insincerity. The perfect fake date.

Palmer has wanted Malia from the first moment he saw her. A challenging, sexy career woman who knows what she wants. It’s just not him. Not yet, anyway. This is Palmer’s chance to win her heart.

As fate throws them together, Malia unravels the layers of the man she thought she knew and, against the odds, finds herself falling in love. Palmer’s falling too. If only they can convince each other what they share…a belief in a happy ever after.

Review

“[Joy] Beharie skillfully voices Malia's uncertainty about her feelings for Palmer, while [Nelson] Hobbs brings decisiveness to his performance of Palmer's passion for Malia. Malia has two business partners, and Beharie distinguishes them by giving one a breathy quality and the other a strident tone, both matching their personalities. Hobbs and Beharie work well together as Malia and Palmer navigate their developing relationship and work through their differing expectations of life.” AudioFile Magazine

Malia and Palmer were an interesting couple. They started out as adversaries. Malia's company did ad work for Palmer's wedding planning business. Although they'd worked together for a year, their relationship was barely professional.. Palmer was arrogant, cold, and difficult to work with; Malia was grateful that at the conclusion of the meeting at the beginning of the story she wouldn't have to work with him anymore. Her announcement that she was moving into a different phase of her company and someone else would be handling Palmer's advertising caught him off guard and panicked him. Beneath the surface they were attracted to each other. Malia wasn't willing to face or acknowledge that and Palmer wasn't sure how to keep her in his life. He tried coming clean and admitting he wanted to go out with her; she refused. A series of coincidences, intense pressure from both of their families to find the right person and settle down, the need for both Palmer and Malia to produce a date for a family wedding, unrelenting persistence by Palmer to break through Malia's barriers, and their different goals for the future makes for a rocky romance, but they achieve their HEA. Despite Palmer's initial, unfavorable portrayal he turns out to be a very romantic, compassionate and caring hero. Malia was strong, fiesty, smart and independent, a great match for Palmer. I enjoyed the close, warm friendship between Malia and her friends/business partners and with Mike, the father of a deceased partner who was a father figure to all three of them. The subplot about Mike and a diner regular Emma who has a crush on him is developed a bit more in this second book. It'll be interesting to see how the author handles a romance between Tessa (one of the friends/partners) and Ford in the next one. Right now, they seem an unlikely pairing.

I found Jennifer Probst in 2018 and have followed her since then. I enjoy her books so much. She writes well with great storylines and wonderful characters. This series has such a different feel to it. It amazes me. These two characters, Palmer and Malia, are both stubborn in their own ways. Palmer stole my heart early on, but Malia took awhile for me to love. I certainly got there! I love the friendship between the characters so much. It warms my heart. I look forward to the next book. I'm hoping Mike and Emma get their own book. For me, they stole the show!

I first received an ARC of this book, then I read/listened to it through Kindle Unlimited because I love audiobooks. The narrators did a great job. They have easy to listen to voices. Especially the male narrator.

Thank you NetGalley and Valentine PR for the ARC of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.

This is book 2 in the Twist of Fate series. I have read all of Jennifer’s books and so far this series is not her standard. It took me a while to get into book 1 and this book was even longer. I could not warm up to Malia at all she was whinny and snobby and it took her way to long to realize it was her that was the issue. Palmer fought his attraction to Malia by being arrogant and rude until he realized he went too far then he spent way too much time trying to make her give him another chance. I don’t like beggars. He should have walked away. The good part to this series is Mike and Emma. Don’t get me wrong there were some good parts to the book. Spoiler alert you don’t ask someone to marry you in bed after sex come on dude you are a wedding planner for goodness sake! There has been so much build up to Tessa and Ford I hope it lives up to 2 books worth of hype!

This was a great book. Many do not know what all IVF entails, myself included, it was great to get a glimpse. It goes to show that you may think you have everything planned out and prepared but life happens. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

I really like the realness of Malia's confessions regarding internal conflict on race and its resolution. It did seem weird for a white guy to call her his queen and for her to call him her king. Also like that they Ms. Probst allowed them to discuss whether they're families would have issues with them dating. The issue was not ignored but it was covered briefly and early so that it became a nine issue to the love story.

Kudos to the choice if voice actors. Our added to the authenticity.

I am glad the girls still didn't time together, but I wish Sebastian and Veronica were bigger fixtures. (Thank you for Sebastian recognizing and changing a dirty diaper while never attempting to pass the task off to his wife.)

I enjoyed the evolution of the Emma/Mike situation.
Great sequel, and though I haven't read her other series, I sensed and appreciated the name dropping.
My favorite moment is a ***SPOILER***PLEASE DON'T RUIN THE MOMENT FOR YOURSELF. "You're my damn person. " *******End of SPOILER********

I'm looking forward to the next book.

A nice book with cute moments and definitely an eye opener compared to the usual books I typically read. The character developments were good but I didn’t really like Maliah’s personality in the book because we could see Palmer trying to improve as a person and make an effort but it was one sided. Felt like I read the entire book for her to reciprocate palmers love in the last chapter of the book. Which was disappointing because I had high hopes for this book.
