Fake Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 4,160 ratings

The newest romance from New York Times bestselling, Audie Award winning author Kylie Scott!

He walks the red carpet. She’s more familiar with vacuuming one.

When a scandal tarnishes the reputation of hot as hell A-lister, Patrick Walsh, he needs a reputation rescue, pronto.

Enter waitress Norah Peers–a nobody who’s average with a capital A. She’s available, dependable, and has sworn off men for the rest of her natural born life. In other words: the perfect match for a no-strings fake romance.

For the right amount of money, she can avoid waitressing and play the part of his dependable down-to-earth girlfriend. What she can’t avoid–dammit–is the growing steam between them.

But being hounded by the paparazzi and having her life dissected on social media is a panic attack in the making. And while Patrick might be a charming rogue on screen, in real life he’s a six-foot-two confusing, gorgeous, brooding grump, who keeps her at a distance . . . but also makes her feel like this bond between them might be more than just an act.

Being dumped on cue should be no big deal. Except being fake with Patrick is the realist relationship Norah has ever had. What’s a girl to do, but flip the script, and ask for a re-match made in Hollywood?

Norah, my hero.
5 out of 5 stars
Norah, my hero.
I've done a lot of reading in my time. Suspense, mystery, thriller, crime and romance. So it's safe to say that I've come across a lot of characters. Some I liked, some I didn't. Some I wanted to throw my Kindle at and some that made me want to hug my Kindle. Fake is one of those that made me want to hug my Kindle. Why? Well Norah and Patrick were written as grown ups. Norah especially. Of all the couples I've read in books I think this is the first time ever that I crushed more on the heroine than the hero. Norah was no nonsense, she means what she says and says what she means. Patrick also was there to oblige her. He needed someone like Norah to always tell what she is feeling and vise versa. Also, Kylie has the ability to make you fall for the side characters. In Fake is was all about Paddy and Norah. Sure, there were some great side characters, but they didn't steal the show. Thank you Kylie, you wrote about a couple who in other worlds would of kept us frustrated with kept secrets and insecurities. But instead we got a grown up couple who didn't need all that drama to be a super couple.

I’m always excited to get a new Kylie Scott novel, so there *might* have been some fangirl squeeing when this hit my kindle after I should already have been asleep. Add in that fake girlfriend/fiancée is a favorite trope, and, instead of going to bed like a reasonable (i.e., a non book obsessed) person, I, of course, immediately dove right in, lol. Note that while this book is set in the Stage Dive/Dive Bar universe, it’s not a part of either of those series (it’s subtitled “A West Hollywood novel”, which makes it the start of a new series) and there’s only what I consider very minimal crossover, with none of the main characters from the previous series making an appearance.

To start off with, there are the wonderful characters I expect to get from this author: curvy, sarcastic Norah working two jobs in order to take care of her grandmother, and broody, Hollywood heartthrob Patrick, who needs PR help, stat. Told from Norah’s POV, there’s plenty of humor as Patrick’s reticence often leaves it up to Norah to take the lead in selling their fake relationship to the world, including both Norah’s Gran (who I adored), and Patrick’s parents. There are several other great secondary characters I hope we’ll get to see more of, including Norah’s best friend, Zena, Patrick’s friends, actor Cole and guitarist Jack, as well as Patrick’s manager, Angie, and PA, Mei.

As for the plot, of course, you know Norah and Patrick are going to fall for each other, but there’s a surprise twist here and there waiting (it’s a bit of a slow burn) for them to both admit it. There’s also the boss/employee relationship that has to be carefully navigated (and I thought the author did a superb job there), and a lot of reminders about the difficulties of reaching a hea both for average people like Norah’s family, and for Patrick’s rich and famous friends. So trying to figure out how the two of them are going to overcome all the obstacles to a long term relationship helps keep the pages turning.

An engaging story filled with humor, heart, and heat, as well as some suspense, I can already tell Norah and Patrick’s story is going to be another favorite I’ll be revisiting. Here’s to hoping we also get a chance to revisit them when some of those secondary characters (I’m looking at you, Jack) get their own stories. 5 stars

“Just in case this all goes to he!! and I say the wrong thing and you never want to talk to me again. I enjoyed every moment with you.”

While looking for an audiobook to read, I found Fake by Kylie Scott in my library and realized I bought it on release day (or pre-ordered it) and never listened to it! I have really enjoyed the other books I have read by her, so I jumped right into Fake.

And Fake jumped right into the story. The meat of the story started quickly, the moment the book begins. There was not really any scene-setting or meeting the characters, but it totally worked here. We meet Norah, a curvy waitress who is supporting herself and paying for her grandmother’s care. She has served the movie star, Patrick, several times, and though she internally fangirls, she never shows it on the outside. When Patrick is involved in a scandal featuring his best friend’s wife, he needs to change his image and have a regular girlfriend. Or a fake one.

They have interviewed many candidates, but Patrick can’t imagine spending that much time with any of them. So when he is out to lunch with his publicist(?) and Norah serves him, he decides that she would be perfect for the part, because she is genuine and doesn’t swoon over him. While it’s not something Norah would normally do, the job would pay for her beloved gran to move into a much better home, which would make it all worth it.

I loved this drama and angst-free read! It’s a cinderella story that appeals to most women. It was quick, light and easy and the characters were all very likable.

    Likes:
•I loved how Norah was just a regular girl.
•Told from only her POV. I like that for a change!
•It was a quick and easy read.
•I really loved all of the characters.
    •The slow-burn build-up.

    Dislikes:
    •It ended abruptly.
•It felt very novella-like. It didn’t have a lot of meat to it.

    The Narration:
And Arndt did a great job with this one! She always does, but I wasn’t sure she would fit this character as much. I needn’t have worried, she was fantastic, and I highly recommend the audiobook version of the story.

    The Down & Dirty:
Fake by Kylie Scott may not be the most memorable read, but it is a perfect sweet and light story to check out between heavier books. It is a low-angst, every woman’s fantasy Cinderella story, and I hope to read more in this series.

It's every girl's fantasy becoming reality in this story by Kylie Scott. Fake will have you hooked by the first page and obsessed by the first chapter. A classic fake relationship plot but with a twist, a role reversal with the heroine rescuing the leading man, both learn that sacrifices must be made for love. Belying its title, Fake gets more than real and hits you with all the feels. A must read for all Kylie Scott fans and everyone who loves to believe that dreams can come true.

Kylie Scott does it again - this book was a slice of perfection. Patrick Walsh has been caught in a Hollywood scandal and become persona non grata around town. Sitting in his favourite restaurant with his publicist, it's decided that Patrick needs to be in a relationship. Norah Peers is his usual waitress when he visits and she's the one he wants! What happens when they start to have feelings? Can Norah survive the lifestyle? Will Patrick open up and tell all? This book was addictive and funny and at times has some angst. The characters were smart and funny and not perfect which is why I fell in love with them! This just cements why Kylie is one of my favourite authors!
