Kamila is fun, glamorous, and appears to have it all. She spends her time helping others and doing charity work. It doesn't leave much time to focus on herself. She finds herself attracted to her brother-in-law and long-time friend, Rohan, and she's unsure of how he feels about her. Plus, her childhood nemesis is back in town and seems to be interested in Rohan. Her seemingly perfect world is turning upside down.
I adored this Bollywoodesque Emma retelling. I loved Kamila, her love interest, and her friends. Besides parties and pretty clothes, Kamila enjoys helping others, matchmaking, and dogs. Rohan is never far from Kamila's side and is always there to support her. The moment I thought Rohan was too perfect, we got to see his less-than-perfect side, and that made him even more loveable. Asha stands out among Kamila's wonderful circle of close friends. Kamila has the best bestie; everyone needs someone like Asha as their best friend.
And the food! Kamila's weekly Bollywood movie night parties with the descriptions of delicious dishes will leave you hungry for Indian food.
Despite the lighthearted nature of this story, some serious issues are addressed, such as mental health, emotional abuse, and misogyny at work. Heron makes her points in a manner that doesn't detract from the fun, easy-going nature of the story.
Kamila Knows Best is a delightful, slow-burn, feel-good romance that will leave you with a smile!

Fun South Indian Emma Retelling
I will never forget having to read Emma for my AP English class my senior year of high school. I despised Emma on every level. I despised it even more than Heart of Darkness. Thankfully, I didn’t feel the same for this retelling of Emma. This was fun and entertaining and a refreshing friends to lovers trope. Kamila Knows Best is a modern day retelling of Emma with a South Indian twist set in Toronto. It had me googling biryani recipes and wishing I had an invite to Kamila’s Bollywood nights. I’m convinced this author sets out to make us hungry with each of her books thanks to the descriptions of all the food. I loved the diverse supporting cast of friends that made appearances on Bollywood nights ( think dinner party with biryani and a Bollywood movie with friends). If you are looking for a fun romance with the 3 F’s (family, friends, and food), then give this one a try.

Kamila Knows Best is a modern take on the classic novel, Emma, and an even updated version of the movie Clueless. Kamila is living her best life working as an accountant for a job she loves, volunteering for a local animal charity and hosting weekly Bollywood parties for all her friends. She’s not tied down to any one person and prefers to keep things casual. Her best friend and since childhood friend, Rohan is a giant help to her with her father, who has been struggling with his health.
One day she see Rohan flirting with another of their friends and she thinks maybe there could be more to her friendship with Rohan? Rohan has been there through everything, all the good and bad. He knows all about her family history and
I absolutely loved Accidentally Engaged by this author and that was 5 stars for me. Kamila was missing some of this magic. I didn’t really enjoy Kamila- she seemed immature despite caring for her elderly father. She didn’t understand that people may see things differently than her and that maybe she doesn’t always know best.
I do love that she was very compassionate about other people and for animals. She truly did try to put out positivity into the world. I loved how Rohan and Kamila both came to their more than friends conclusion together. The friends to lovers trope worked well with this novel.
I will also say as both of the author’s novels include incredible descriptions of the food. I want to go right now to try all the delicious pakora and biryani!
