Review

"Wildly addictive, beautifully written, and uniquely captivating. Thoughtless is a simmering, slow burn." -- Tracey Garvis-Graves, author of On the Island

"Stephens has perfectly and with gut-wrenching honesty portrayed the reality of a love triangle, and the mess that ensues when bonds are severed and new ones are formed. What happens when you find your soul mate at the worst possible time, in the least expected place? What if being with that person means doing the most wrong thing you've ever done?
Thoughtless is one of those books that leaves you thinking about these questions, the characters and their choices for days if not weeks after reading." -- Tammara Webber, author of Easy

"This story tears your heart right out! The steamy scenes will get your blood boiling and the gut-wrenching emotional turmoil will bring tears cascading. If you're a fan of Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, I'd highly recommend this read! It's messy, dirty, raw, REAL! The story is beautifully written and keeps you interested with every turn of the page." -- Book Snobs Blog

"This book has climbed right to the top of my list of favorites this summer and made itself cozy there." -- A Turn of Page

"Really addictive. Could not put it down! This is my kind of guilty pleasure." -- FashionandSarcasm.Blogspot.com

"I felt like after
Thoughtless I was climbing off of the longest, curviest, craziest roller coaster that I have ever virtually been on. Let me tell you, that is absolutely not a bad thing!" -- The Indie Bookshelf Blog

"If you enjoyed
Beautiful Disaster, then you will enjoy this series!" -- Nightly Reading Blog

"From page one, this book is impossible to put down." -- Abbi Glines, author of While It Lasts

OH MY GOD!!!! Holy crap, so I have had this on my shelf for quite awhile and kept pushing it back b/c I saw it was getting mixed reviews. I saw that it was going to be a long read, and I didn't want to get into it if it was only going to be so-so....but oooooh, it was SO SO SOOOOOO unbelievably unforgettable!!!

Kiera and Denny drove cross-country together to move in with Denny's friend and lead singer of the D-bags, Kellan Kyle. Denny's scored a great internship, Kiera snagged a scholarship so she can finish college, and they lucked out when Kellan let them rent the spare room in his house for next to nothing. Everything seems perfect, until suddenly Denny's given a great opportunity with the company...far away from Kiera. Having never been apart for very long, Kiera is heartbroken to know that she has to say goodbye to him for 2 months. Everything's okay at first, Denny calls to check on her and she's busy working at the bar. But with Kellan there to keep her company day in and day out with his sweet and sexy ways, Kiera's time away from Denny has her leaning on him more and more. When Denny calls to tell her he's been offered a dream job that will have him away for two more years, Kiera cracks...and her MOSTLY innocent flirtation with Kellan turns into a mind-bending night of passion. But when Denny decides to give up everything and come back to her, suddenly Kiera realizes Kellan means much more to her than she thought. One is her safety and everything she's known, the other is her home, the one who holds her heart, and suddenly all 3 of them are in the middle of a storm that will leave devastation in it's path.

God, this book was just amazing. It's one of those absolutely earth-shattering romance stories where your heart soars, races at breakneck speed, rips into pieces, and then slowly puts itself back together, and I just can't get it out of my head!!! I was so torn, because I really did love Denny's character and he was just so dedicated to Kiera. She was everything to him, but that time away when he distanced himself allowed Kiera (and me!) to just fall unconditionally and irrevocably in love with Kellan Kyle. He's 'hot bad boy with a heart' personified and he just does things to your emotions that no book character should be capable of!!! I'm in love!! *sigh*

The chemistry between Kiera and Kellan was off the charts hot (espresso stand scene...OMG!!!!), but my favorite part of their story was their stollen time whenever Denny was gone. There were so many simple, tender, sweet moments that they shared that just melted my heart and made me wish Kellan was real just so I could be a witness to such masculine perfection!!!!

I know a lot of people had an issue with the cheating in this book, and to be honest it didn't sit well with me when Kiera was still dragging her feet and stringing both of them along so far into the story. I wanted to strangle her every time she went back and forth between them, and I was absolutely shattered every time she hurt Kellan. I mean, this poor boy deserves nothing but absolute adoration and love for once in his life!! His life has been miserable, he's essentially whoring himself so that he could feel close to someone, and when he finally...finally finds someone that makes him feel like he deserves love, he can't be with her. It was such a torturous, devastating tango that Kiera and Kellan put themselves through, with her desperately trying not to hurt Denny but incapable of letting go the man that carries her heart in his hand. Soooooo, back to my point! I get that people are bothered by Kiera's actions, because honestly there was a part of me that was often thinking "oh, wow, that was a pretty bold, heartless move", but I tried to keep reminding myself to think in terms of her life, which sums up like this-
-she's thousands of miles from her family and friends
-her boyfriend of 2 years is like her rock; she loves him, but he's also her safety net
-Kellan is a relatively famous musician/singer with tons of adoring female fans, and he's known for sleeping around
-Kiera doesn't really know anyone else, and if she were to leave Denny and choose Kellan, then he dropped her for something more exciting, where would that leave her??

She had all of these things keeping her tied to Denny, so I could see how hard it was on her. It wasn't fair, it wasn't what she should have done to either of them, but I at least could understand it in a way. In the end, I do believe it's possible to love one person and fall in love with another. I think what she has with Denny was safe love and support, a best friend who would always be there. What she has with Kellan, while it comes across as just passion and lust at times, is deeper. They became a part of each other, like they were both a piece of a broken vase but they didn't know it until they were finally put back together. And it was beautiful, sexy, and absolutely amazing when they were.

I can't forget to mention the awesome supporting characters in this book, because I just loved them all!! Kellan's bandmates were all amazing, I loved how they were all like brothers and stood by each other. My favorite had to be Griffin, the womanizing, groping goof that just couldn't help being an ass!! I kind of hope that he gets tamed by a certain someone (view spoiler) in the next book, but I guess that remains to be seen!! Kiera's coworkers at the bar were all fun characters, too, it was like Kiera's family away from home whenever she went to work. I'm excited to see more of them in Effortless, because I really feel attached to all of them!!

S.C. Stephens created the most beautiful, heartbreaking, sexy, gut-wrenching, moving romance story, and my heart is still racing just thinking about it!! It takes you through so many emotions, from the laughs and tenderness you share with them to the moments where your heart races out of your chest from the indescribable chemistry, and then the massive hole left in your chest as these amazing characters wound each other over and over again. This is one story I will never forget, and I can't wait to read on in the series to be engrossed in it all over again!!!

Kiera and Denny have been dating for two years. Now that Denny has graduated college, he's gotten a dream job in Seattle and Kiera is transferring schools so she can finish her last two years there. They move in with one of Denny's best friends, Kellan. Kellan is a musician in a popular local band, and a notorious womanizer.

All seems well at first, until Denny's job sends him out to Arizona for a few months and he leaves Kiera behind. While Denny is gone, Kellan and Kiera start spending time together, and there is an attraction and some flirting, but no lines have been crossed. Denny's calls are getting further and further apart, and then one evening Denny calls to say he's staying in Arizona and when Kiera graduates in two years she can come out to be with him. Kiera freaks out and breaks up with Denny on the spot. Then, she pours her broken heart out to Kellan. After a few drinks, they act on their attraction to each other and it's absolutely amazing... until Denny shows up the next morning and tells Kiera he loves her and gave up the job for her.

WARNING - SPOILERS: This book is not for the faint at heart - it's dark and angsty and the hero/heroine cheat on the heroine's boyfriend. If you don't think you would enjoy this type of story, I'm not going to encourage you to try it. BUT, if you're looking for something a little different, a story that tests your own personal reading boundaries, this might be the book for you. By the very nature of their deception, it felt wrong to want a HEA for this couple, but I did.

You know how much I love stories with an internal conflict - no bombs or mysteries, only character interaction creating the conflict, so Thoughtless fit that niche for me. I liked the setting and secondary characters, especially the band. I felt like I was sitting in class with Kiera, or hanging out in the smoky bar with the band. It's good storytelling, if a bit long.

As much as I'd like to hate them, Kiera's boyfriend Denny was not without his own issues. He had a tendency to make decisions without talking to Kiera first and expecting her to accommodate him, which led to the turning point in the story. Would Kiera and Kellan have embarked on a physical relationship if Denny hadn't made that decision? Was the relationship Kiera and Kellan had before that cheating if there was no sex?

For as much as I liked this book, there were a few negatives - I found Kiera to be annoying and wishy-washy a lot. She's also a crier. (I told you - lots of angst in this one, lol). Kellan is pretty much a man-whore but I really liked him *winks*. The way he handled himself after Denny came back was painful to read.

I have to add, that for some reason, this book kind of reminded me of Twilight - if you added a band, sex, and infidelity, and took out the sparkles and fangs. Why? It's set in Washington State, Kiera was so `innocent', she blushed a lot, didn't know her own beauty, and didn't see what Kellen or Denny saw in her. Kellan chuckled a lot, had a perfectly sculpted body, and women of all ages could not help staring at him and hitting on him.

I recently finished the follow-up to this book, Effortless. I really enjoyed it, and think after you finish Thoughtless you'll be wanting to know what happens next.

    Recommendations:

Romance readers who enjoy reading high emotions, college-aged characters, some pretty good "angry sex" scenes, and who don't give up on heroes/heroines with serious faults.

1.0 out of 5 stars too much cheating
Reviewed in Italy on July 13, 2015
I don't have an issue with cheating per se, if there is a logical reason in the plot, but this entire book revolved around a terrible love triangle between two friends and a horrible girl. The plot was completely empty, nothing really happens except a continuos back and forth between the girl and the two guys (who all live together). The sex was passable (but not terribly exciting), the characters superficially described especially since we only get the point of view of the girl who is so obnoxious and silly and selfish and self-centered that you don't really get to know the male characters and their thoughts till the end. And she is the main reason I hated this book. She was whiny, childish, obnoxious, indecisive, unscrupulous and totally selfish. I really, really really hated her. I kept waiting for her to redeem herself somehow, and yet she acted terribly all the way till the END! I was really glad to get to the end and I definitely will NOT buy the next one in the series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kiera lives up to the title of the book, big time
Reviewed in Japan on April 28, 2014
The only reason that kept me from quitting midway through the book was that I had to check out how the love triangle would sort itself out at the end. Never have I so thoroughly loathed the main character of a book like this before, and am regretting that I have already downloaded the sequel together with this one from the start. Will probably never read it unless desperate enough.

This was a book I couldn't stop reading, very addicting in fact. But Kiera, the main character drives me crazy! Some parts of the book I loved her, and others I really wanted to beat her! I guess the story has a lot of drama, but I liked it anyways.

    5.0 out of 5 stars O.M.G!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 29, 2014
I am going to start this by saying OMG I LOVE KELLAN KYLE!!

Now that's established I can start my review hehe. I absolutely love this book and having seen so many people talk about it and the rock star that is Kellan Kyle I was eager to start this series and boy did Thoughtless live up to its hype. A lot of people and reviews all moaned about Keira no end, about how she is whiny, needy and child like but I found that I instantly fell in love with her character. She's a girl who has only lived in one place, only ever had 1 boyfriend (Denny of 2 years) so when Denny is offered a job in Seattle Keira decides to transfer college and move with him and take the next step in their relationship.

    Cue Mr Kyle *sigh*

The couple move in with Denny's high school friend who happens to have a spare room and all three of them get along great and this is where my opinion differs to others. Keira lands a job at Pete's as a waitress and it also happens to be the bar that Kellan and his band (The D'bags) have a regular performing slot. Denny has to go away for work and leaves Keira in Seattle (with Kellan). While Denny is away and so wrapped up in his work his phone calls to Keira dwindle until they become non existent and in that time Keira grows ever close to Kellan trying to fill the void Denny left but also trying to keep it innocent, I did say trying. When it comes to this Kiera is extremely naive as to what innocent means and how she defines it. Cuddles, holding hands, lifts to school/work they all begin to muddy the water and lines start to blur, it is however the chemistry between Kellan and Keira that draws you in and keeps you there throughout the book. Kellan (a self confessed whore) changes so subtly as you get deeper into the story and his story and past unfolds, its almost as if Kellan is letting his walls down to let YOU in.

For me I couldn't read this book fast enough and barely put it down until I was finished and that didn't take me long as I devoured the book. I couldn't find anything that I really didn't like, yes sometimes the decisions the characters make make you want to scream at the book but for me that's a sign that you are emotionally invested in the book and its characters and come on we all make questionable decisions in life so really its just another thing to love about the book!! Its full angst, raw emotions, love, pain and confliction, it has highs and lows and lots of twists that leave you guessing which way Keira will decide to go but it is a rollercoaster ride worth taking.

S.C. Stephens has an amazing way with words and writes phenomenally well. I absolutely adore the writing style and the way the story formed and I would highly recommend this book to anyone and I really can't wait to start Effortless.
