According to Aiden, "Setting and mood are critical parts of a romantic story, hence I am always taking pictures of romantic settings to be used in future novels".

Cliff is a world-famous cyclist whose goal is to win his last Tour de France. While in Paris, he meets a handsome, young American Architecture student named Gabe, who is touring France on a shoestring budget. When Cliff offers to by lunch for an obviously cash strapped Gabe, it begins a friendship between the two unlikely men that grows into so much more.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. I was pleasantly surprised how well this book was written. The author's use of descriptive words is superb. The chemistry between the men was amazing. The way that Cliff's possible attraction to men began at an early age and was quashed by his family just broke my heart. Gabe's joy and happiness was infectious, and I found myself smiling for most of the book, especially in the chapters from his POV. I really loved this book.

Aiden Ainsley's "King of the Mountain" has its strengths. He brings to life two great leading men. Gabriel O'Reilly begins the story as an architect student on a summer vacation in France. Clifford Du Frey is a professional cyclist, a leading contender to win the Tour de France. When the two meet at a cafe, sparks fly. Ainsley also brings to life a host of supporting characters including Gabe's best friend the paralegal Annie, Gabe's brothers Hector and Rickie, Clifford's overbearing mother and his business manager Eddie Brockman. The story jumps five years to northern California; and we move from France and racing to mountain biking, building restoration, wildfires and betrayal. The novel bogged a bit as each of the characters' minds got mired in second-guessing, jumping to conclusions and self-doubt. For me, this was irritating. Overall, this was a strong story with a sweet conclusion. Enjoy!

This is the story of Clifford and Gabe. It is the first book in the Love at Lake Clyde series. I loved this book. The author takes you on an incredible journey with lots of nice little surprises. The drama, steamy moments and descriptions keeps you rivited. Beautifully written with amazing characters and of course it takes partly place in France. Definitely recommended.

I received this book as an Arc and I am happily reviewing it voluntarily.

Gabe and Clifford are swept into love at nearly first sight and through a series of situations find themselves at a place of heartbreak. But true love will out and it is worth the journey to get there.
I picked up this story because the premise of a professional bicyclist and the Tour de France was compelling.i hadn't read this career path and was intrigued by the idea of learning something new. I wasn't disappointed. Clifford's journey was nearly bruising to me and I wasn't having to walk it out. Gabe was put into a less bruising situation, but his pain was also heard to bear witness to.
But the conclusion was so very satisfying. I am truly looking forward to the next book in the series and I hope Gabe and Clifford make a few appearances.

This book is occasionally offered as a freebie on Amazon (thank you) but I hadn't read it yet. As I received the opportunity to read the other two books I decided to read this first. As a west European resident the Tour de France is familiar and so are a lot of the locations, they were well written. I loved how Gabe saw it all, he was a lovely character. The plot was interesting although I guessed most of it from the start. I'm looking forward to the next.

I admire this author for offering so many layers to this story, each layer revealing something of the main characters, and each layer moving an interesting plot to the next level. There are definitely some parts that are predictable, but these are appropriately balanced by ones that are totally unpredictable, and thus all the more enjoyable. I don't want to be any more specific; rather, I want the first-time reader to approach this with no preconceptions beyond my own assessment that this is an amazing story, well-scripted, engaging, with enough surprises to keep one in suspense and eager to turn the next page. I applaud the author for an engaging, at times humorous, authentic, story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gabe and Cliff
Reviewed in Canada on November 7, 2021
A genuine connection develops between Gabe and Cliff until there is a deception with long reaching results, followed by five years apart that have not been easy for either of them, and finally a random decision leads to a strained reunion where eventually truths are revealed and Gabe and Cliff can let their sincere love grow and give them the sweetly satisfying HEA they both deserve.
Cliff is a very determined, successful man but he also has a softer side and an endearing overprotective streak. Gabe completely stole my heart with his sweetness and his genuine heart.
I really enjoyed this story but parts of it just dragged on too much.
