Lovely Little Liar (Blackwell-Lyon Book 1) Kindle Edition
I never thought of myself as cynical, but getting dumped at the altar changes a man.
Now, I’m all about my job. About building my business and getting on with my life. Don’t get me wrong; I still love women. I love the way they look. The way they smell. The way they feel. Especially the way they feel. And I’ve pretty much made it my mission to give each and every woman who shares my bed the ride of her life.
But getting close? Getting serious? Giving a woman my trust again? Yeah, that’s not going to happen.
Or so I thought.
Then I met her. It’s funny how things can change in a heartbeat. How one case of mistaken identity can change everything. But there she was, all business and completely uninterested in me. And damned if I didn’t want her. Crave her.
Most of all, I wanted to help her. To keep her and her sister safe. But the more I get to know her, the more I want her. The whole package. The complete woman.
And the miracle is that she wants me, too.
Trouble is, we’ve both been burned before. Now, I know one thing for certain—the only way that we’ll survive the heat that crackles between us is if we both find the courage to leap into the fire together.
Lovely Little Liar is a novella originally published as Bitch Slap. Minor edits, such as expanded scenes, have been made to this book.

Though known primarily for her award-winning and internationally bestselling romances (including the Stark and Most Wanted series) that have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestseller list and #1 internationally, JK has been writing full time for over a decade in a variety of genres including paranormal and contemporary romance, "chicklit" suspense, urban fantasy, and paranormal mommy lit.
JK has been praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a "flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations" and by RT Bookclub for having "cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swoon for them." A four time finalist for Romance Writers of America's prestigious RITA award, JK took home the first RITA trophy in 2014 for her novel, Claim Me (book 2 of her Stark Trilogy).
In her previous career as an attorney, JK worked as a clerk on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and practiced primarily civil, entertainment and First Amendment litigation in Los Angeles and Irvine, California, as well as in Austin, Texas. She currently lives in Central Texas, with her husband, two daughters, and two rather spastic cats.

"What?"
"You. I didn't expect you."
If you're a fan of short, sexy, and swoony stories, this one won't disappoint!!
Enter Pierce Blackwell of Blackwell-Lyon Security. He's been burned and burned badly. Sworn off any "relationship" longer than one night, he's prepared to meet the next bedpost notch for drinks, some innuendos, and finally, well.... you know. What he wasn't prepared for was HER. Jezebel. A case of mistaken identity leads him on a path he swore he'd never walk again. Rules will be broken for sure, but what about his heart? Will that be broken again, or does he finally have a chance at forever this time?
Jez needs help. Her famous sister has been the target of tabloid gossip and her career it tenuous at best. She needs someone to protect her not only from the angry fans, but from herself as well. Hiring Blackwell-Lyon might be the smartest and the dumbest idea she's ever had. She has rules about getting too close to people, especially ones she employs. But Pierce Blackwell makes her want to thrown those rules out the window. Should she listen to her head and keep her professional distance, or should she throw caution to the wind and listen to her heart instead?
What a great read. I loved the banter between these two, and the chemistry is off the charts! That window scene - Holy hotness!! Definitely recommend this one to anyone!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2018I love the fact that J. Kenner decided to give the three co-owners of Blackwell-Lyon Security their own stories, renaming the first book in the series Lovely Little Liar, still getting down and dirty with anti-relationship hero, Pierce Blackwell, and feisty heroine, Jezebel Stuart, while also providing readers with the promise of what’s to come in this newly created steamy trio of books.
Lovely Little Liar is told strictly from Pierce’s perspective, so readers take this lust filled journey with him, witnessing his conflicted feelings about Jez and relationships in general and wondering what he plans to do as we see him breaking his own rules and slowly changing his view on what he wants from women…or at least this one woman who has gotten completely under his skin.
To me, the liar part of the story applies to the hero himself, lying about the fact that all he wants Jezebel for is one night of sex because it’s beyond obvious that a single time with her will not satisfy his lust or need for her, leaving Pierce in an unexpected and uncertain situation - one that he can’t absolutely control, which for a man like Pierce, puts him on tilt and forces him to redefine his usual game plan when it comes to the opposite sex.
Pierce and Jez’s story is a fast-paced read that illustrates the complications of young stardom and the lengths family members go to in order to protect those they love. This is definitely a lust at first sight situation that has the potential to develop into more, but only if Pierce is willing to make an exception to his interaction with the opposite sex and if a plan is developed that allows Pierce to do his job while also taking a chance on having something worthwhile with Jez despite the fact that they live in different states and have trust issues galore.
4 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2018Pierce is a security expert and Jezebel is the manager for her sister, Delilah's, acting career! Pierce and Jezebel met at a restaurant and mistake each other for someone else. There is an instant attraction there and when they finally meet again, they clear up the mistaken identities. Jez hires Pierce and his security company to watch over her sister. They both act on their attraction to each other thinking it's just a causal thing since Jez and Delilah will only be in Austin, TX for a few days and will then be heading home to Los Angeles.
Of course, things usually never work out when they are both attract to each other more than sexually. This is such a great and short read with characters that are so perfect for each other. And the other characters in the story makes you wanting more books on them.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2021I am normally a huge J. Kenner Fan but this book just didn't do it for me. It was an interesting read, a short read. Had great chemistry between the two characters. I was suspecting more drama because it was a security firm book, so i was hoping for slight suspense. Not a bad read in general.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2018Be prepared to fall quickly into the crazy life of Pierce and Jez! From their near disaster meet-cute to their business dealings through to their hot and sexy times, I couldn’t put it down because I had to see where things went with Pierce and Jez.
Pierce is a bit out of his league . . . he’s a player not a stay-er. And Jez is so busy putting everyone else ahead of her own needs, she has no idea who she is at this point or what she wants from life. I loved seeing Pierce and Jez get closer and allow their walls to fall a bit.
Lovely Little Liar is the perfect balance of funny, sexy, snarky, and heartwarming. I had a blast reading this story, it was JUST what I needed to break a bit of a book funk.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2018Pierce is one of the owners of Blackwell-Lyon Security and because of his past he is determined to keep his interactions with women strictly limited to one night.
Jez has been hurt in the past as well and she has no interest in love or relationships. She manages her celebrity sister’s career and is looking to hire security to protect her from the media storm when a case of mistaken identity has Pierce thinking she is his next one night stand.
Drawn to her in a way he can’t explain he isn’t about to let her walk out of his life so quickly and that is when the fun really begins!
Hot chemistry combined with humorous banter makes this a great start to a new series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, quick read
Previously released under the title ‘Bitch Slap’, Lovely Little Liar is as good as I remember with the addition of some extended scenes. A quick read, but totally worth the hour investment!
Pierce and Jezebel fall for each other fast but it’s entirely believeabke. They are great characters and I look forward to checking in on them through the books to come that focus on Pierce’s business partners.
I love that LLL is entirely from Pierce’s point of view.
All round a good read!
