Last Impressions: A thrilling crime caper set in Regency England (Jane Austen Investigations Book 2) Kindle Edition
Can solving a mystery mend a broken heart…?
1796, Hampshire, England
After having her heart broken by the man she thought she was going to marry, Jane Austen is in desperate need of a distraction. So her sister, Cassandra, accepts every social invitation going, and one of them is to stay with a family friend at Melmont Hall.
Mrs Paulson welcomes them to her home and introduces them to the other guests who have arrived for a dinner party. But when they sit down to eat, Mr Paulson is nowhere to be found.
After discovering his study is locked, the guests break in and find a shocking scene. Mr Paulson is dead – and not of natural causes. Someone has stabbed him.
Jane has already helped solve one murder mystery and she is determined to put her skills to use to help her hostess get justice for her husband.
Everyone at the dinner party must be questioned as a suspect, as well as the servants at Melmont Hall.
But what had Mr Paulson done to provoke such anger? Why would someone want to kill him?
Can Jane Austen use her quick wit to unmask the killer?

- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2023After having read the first book I was excited to read the second book in the series. I was definitely not disappointed. The author has done an excellent job with character development and the plot is so well done that even if you figure out who did it you still want to read the book. She also has written these books so well that you can come into the series reading them as standalones, although I definitely recommend reading them in order as they are so well written. I enjoy how the relationship, purely platonic, of Jane and the Magistrate develops. He trusts her implicitly and feels that he is clever and intelligent, which for the day was not always the way men felt about a woman's intellect. I look forward to book three and highly advise reading this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2023This is book two in this lovely series. Jane Austen, yes that Jane, and her sister are invited along with a few others to stay at a family friends house for a few days. When dinner is announced they find the master of the house dead in his study behind a locked door. Jane decides to help local magistrate, Lord Hinchbrooke, solve the murder. She has helped him in the past. I love this series. Good stories, great characters, never a dull moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good story
I thought the first book in the series was good, but this one was absolutely fascinating. I had no idea who the murderer was, or how the murder was done until the very end. Well worth reading. I look forward to the next one
