The Line of Succession 2: Acts of Treason Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 26 ratings

Four months have passed since the birthday party where Princess Katyn came into James’ life and gave the country hope of a royal wedding. Andrew is now a journalist, but he’s still up to his old tricks, spinning stories of the impending engagement of James and Katyn. Fortunately, the public are lapping up the fairytale royal romance. In reality, James and Andrew’s relationship is struggling to survive the weight of their separation, always one bad headline away from disaster.

The expected engagement has cornered James, and he’s acting out in ever more dangerous ways. The Queen has made it crystal clear she wants a wedding and an heir, and will stop at nothing to achieve it…not even murder.

As Princess Alexandra ramps up her feminist plan to forever shift the line of succession, she tasks her husband Faisal with roping in Andrew to her schemes by promising him a normal life with James. Only, it comes with a high price…treason.

Meanwhile, Lizzie pursues her own, far deadlier agenda. She’s finished holding onto secrets, and these particular secrets are the kind which, if they ever got out, could blow the entire line of succession wide open.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"After reading The Line of Succession 2: Acts of Treason I can officially declare that this series is my personal crack. I'm revelling in the political machinations and ramifications, the royal jockeying. I'm soaking up all of the drama and intrigue, the eroticism, like a thirsty sponge. There are some dodgy people in this world of aristocracy, money, power, bed hopping and messy affairs, and talk about six degrees of separation. The events set in motion seventeen years prior, that came to pass fifteen years ago, are now all coming together in the most shocking ways. Oh, the scandal! The past and present are so entwined it's hard to know who will come out unscathed. If you like the sound of what's in this review, I recommend you grab a copy of book #1 and start some awesome reading pleasure. 5 Stars!"--On Top Down Under Book Reviews

A continuation of book #1 - The Line of Succession - The Line of Succession 2 has so much going for it. If I gasped once, I swear I gasped a dozen times at the underhanded and calculating people in this world, the stops that they would pull out for their agenda, at revelations that are peeled away via a non-linear narrative. Non-linear timelines rarely work for me but Harry F. Rey uses it perfectly to weave an intriguing series storyline.

There are several main players and several arcs, with one overarching plot – the Crown. Who will wear it? How will that occur? How much of a mess will it be, and what bodies will be left in the wake? The other important questions that remain are, can James come out and live the life he wants? Will Andrew and James be able to find their way back to one another? They have made some incorrect assumptions about one another lately, accumulating personal water under the bridge. Also, does misogyny win? Some historical and current pieces of a jigsaw puzzle are definitely unclear to either of them but are being revealed piece by piece to the reader. There are games both James and Alexandra have to endure, manoeuvre around, and make decisions about that the other isn’t aware of. Andrew faces his own demons, no longer working for James, with the offer of a new job, one that could fracture their connection forever. New threats, blatant ones, are added. There are worries about sensational and damaging headlines looming, a tell-all book that is being hinted at but (we know) definitely exists, and there’s one major game changer that occurs right near the end of this book. Yes, indeed. I’m totally hooked.

This series is a great look at a contemporary alternative British Monarchy, one that has strong parallels to reality, in a soap opera/tabloid-esque way. It draws you in and has you turning those pages quickly. Highly recommended for gay romance readers who also might enjoy some royal watching and a bit of drama.

    🔥🔥🔥 Heat Level: 3.5

So intense! Sex, intrigue, scandal, and deceit are just the beginning!!

As salacious as the first installment but with a few more seriously deadly twists. The story picks up just after the last book so is definitely not a standalone. We are drawn into this soap-opera worthy world of the corrupt and scandalous Royal Family. James and Andrew have been, somewhat separated for four months and their (only just still a secret) relationship is now on fracture glass. Can it weather the upcoming bomb, aimed right for the heart of this Royal Family!?!
While James and Andrew won’t speak their minds to each other, they (unfortunately) undermine each other and think they know what’s best without valid communication. James’s twin Alexandra, continuing her plan to overthrow the monarchy’s law of who can rule, and take her brother’s place instead and become Queen. Her manipulation and deceit knows no bounds, even sending her husband in to do her dirty work. While she seemed ‘nicer’, logically believable and more truthful in this story, I still couldn’t trust her and I’m still not sure of Fascial’s stake and desires in all this, everyone has an ulterior motive!

While the sex is hot, all encounters felt like betrayal in one way or another. Everyone seemed to be sleeping with someone they shouldn’t! Lascivious indeed!!

As with book one, this story is a fast-paced whirlwind of deceit, lies, and murder! So many questions from book one are answered but even more crop up and the book ends on another cliffhanger that will leave you hanging and perhaps cursing Harry just a little!

Salacious, scandalous and a fantastic ride into this twisted Royal Family!! Highly recommended series so far!!

    Thanks for reading!

Exceeds the first of the series by having the riveting plot unfold like a top-class thriller! The gay erotica is mouthwatering but the story itself flawlessly uses it actually to enrich the story seemlessly, rather than be mere titillation on the side. This author is in total command of the English tongue as well, which is a refreshing change from the garden-variety gay fiction often encountered.

After reading the first book in this series, I decided to read this with a totally different mindset than I did before. This time around, I did not have any romanticized ideas about the MCs, so I was able to look at the story for what it truly is: a soap opera about a dysfunctional royal family and all of the intrigue and machinations that go on behind the public eye.

Don't get me wrong, there is a love story, even if it is pretty convoluted. I believe the MCs at least think they are in love, but they seem to have a very destructive relationship.

More detailed information regarding the death of Prince Richard is divulged, mainly through flashbacks. But, confessions are made, conveniently away from any possible witnesses, by a royal themself. Also, out of a sense of guilt?, an involved party tells her tail to one with dangerous ambitions.

Everyone has an agenda, and they are willing to go to any lengths to gain their prize. Betrayal, seduction, lies, and murder spur this second novella on to a climatic conclusion. This is a cliffhanger, as I believe this will be a serial of novellas (just my opinion).

Overall, as I mentioned before, having a better understanding of the characters and their lifestyles made this a much more interesting read. It definitely should not be read as a standalone book.

    Happy reading!
