Little Girls Lost: True tales of heinous crimes (Tangled Webs True Crime) Kindle Edition
Four shocking crimes. Four lives lost. Countless lives shattered.
An 11-year-old girl never makes it home from a Halloween party. When the people of the tight-knit Oil City discover what was done to her, they cancel Halloween until the real monsters who roam their streets can be caught.
A 14-year-old girl is excited to attend her first evening party with local teens. What happens there is every parent’s nightmare, but it is made infinitely worse when the residents of the town close ranks around the perpetrators.
A schoolgirl comes to the aid of a middle-aged woman who has lost her puppy and becomes the victim of the most hated couple in Australian history.
Police tell gang members a 16-year-old girl has agreed to testify against them, with predictable results. When they make an arrest for her murder, a Hollywood sitcom plays a surprising role in the outcome.
Four shocking tales of young lives cut brutally short that will make you want to hug your daughter and never let her go.
This is a standalone title and it is not necessary to have read any of the previous books in the series.
⚠ Note: this is a true crime book that contains descriptions of sexual violence against children. Reader discretion is advised

'A great strength of the meticulously researched Silk Road is the manner in which Ormsby gently takes the reader by the hand, unpacking the technology underpinning this 'dark net' market.' Australian Police Journal
'A disillusioned corporate lawyer turned writer from Australia, Eileen's new book, The Darkest Web, is the story of her journey, from drug markets and contract killing sites to the Internet's seediest alcoves. But the most startling moments of the book happen when she comes face-to-face with some of its key players.' VICE
'From the Internet's hidden drug dens to torture-porn websites, Ormsby has seen it all. If you've ever wondered what the Dark Web is really like, Darkest Web should be on your TBR.' Bustle Magazine "The Best New True Crime Books You Can Read Right Now"
'Riveting.' Who Magazine
'Investigative journalism that gallops along at a cracking pace.' SMH Good Weekend
'Through her clear rendering of the facts, Ormsby makes the intricacies of the technology involved accessible to even the most technophobic of readers. The tone is conversational and friendly while the content is intriguing and increasingly dark. In her quest to uncover the mystery behind the enigmatic DPR she uncovers a story of subterfuge, replete with conspiracy theories and hidden identities, that is rich with anecdotes.' Newtown Review of Books
'Ormsby is a great writer, giving us gripping accounts from the people who actually used "Silk Road" to paint an accurate picture of how the website was created, run, and ultimately fell . . . Silk Road is easily one of the best books I've read this year.' The Library NZ
'Silk Road is one of the more readable and gripping true crime books of recent times. It is not just Ormsby's knowledge of the brief but spectacular rise and fall of Silk Road that makes for compelling reading, but also the ordering of the material so that the reader has the sense of being educated in the technical and legal background to an astonishing criminal enterprise.' The Australian
'For the most complete account of the original Silk Road ... Eileen Ormsby's book Silk Road is the best place to start. It's full of original research, interviews and insight. This is best read along with her excellent blog, AllThingsVice, which covers several aspects of the dark net, but especially the dark net markets.' Jamie Bartlett, author of Darknet and Radicals

About the author

Eileen Ormsby is a lawyer, author and freelance journalist based in Melbourne. Her first book, Silk Road was the world's first in-depth expose of the black markets that operate on the dark web.
Eileen's gonzo-style investigations have led her deep into the secretive corners of the dark web where drugs and weapons dealers, hackers, hitmen and worse ply their trade. Many of these dark web interactions turned into real-world relationships, entanglements, hack attempts on her computer and even death threats from the dark web's most successful hitman network as she researched Darkest Web.
Eileen is also a regular contributor of scripts for the Casefile True Crime podcast

- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe book was really good. Heartbreaking what these children and their families went through. The only flaw is it is to much in depth unnecessary introduction the first 11% of the book gives the same information over and over. Otherwise I recommend it as a good read for True Crime
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFour very good stories of four different young girls murdered. There killers are all caught. Three of the very heinous crimes of sexual assault and murder. One a murder that could have been prevented.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI'm not sure why I chose to read a True Crimes novel, but I did. It's really daunting and unfair how the police use terror tactics and just plain lies to get confessions. Officers know they put innocent victims in jeopardy, especially in gang related cases. The murder of Martha Quailla was the case I was intrigued by. It was even made into a Netflix documentary titled Long Shot in 2019.
I am not planning to read any more books recommended by Kindle, if it relates to the same topics, about sexual assault of young girls/women or their murderers. Welp... Too heartbreaking for me.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a well-written, well-researched case study of young girls whose lives were taken all too soon. Some of these innocent girls were kidnapped off the street by depraved monsters who had no remorse for their evil deeds.
These girls ranged in age from 11 to 14. Another young girl lost her life because of actions taken by police officers. True crime fans will want to give this author a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Harrowing
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAn insightful and informative study of four horrific crimes. The story of Leigh Leigh is a particularly harrowing account of victim shaming and is uncompromising in revealing the abhorrent attitude and behaviour of some of her home town's ignorant and reprehensible inhabitants.

4.0 out of 5 stars Victim Blaming
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis author writes easy to read absorbing and horrifying true crime stories. These are accounts that would put terror in the hearts of parents. One account tells about a community that rallied around the rapists and turned on the victim saying she must have been a slut and thus deserved what happened to her. She actually was a very innocent, naive girl who was invited to a party probably to be used as an easy target. Another story tells of how police detectives using lies to entrap a suspect actually led to the murder of a girl and then the arrest of an innocent young man for her murder. I have always felt uneasy about the fact that police are allowed to lie in the hopes that this will then elicit a confession. The family of the girl sued but only received one dollar compensation however the lawyers received $700,000 for their efforts. These accounts are shocking but do need to be told.
