Lock 'N' Load (Federal K-9 Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 5,188 ratings

Crack CIA analyst Trista Gold is a whiz with the computer, but not so much with people. She hides behind her job, analyzing Top Secret code and making recommendations on national security. She doesn’t need a man in her life. But she will, very soon...

CIA K-9 officer Sgt. Matt Connors suspects that beneath Trista’s uptight appearance, there’s a sexy woman itching to cut loose. But he doesn’t dare act on his attraction. He’s a loner and always will be. Keeping away from Trista is a must-do directive. Until he doesn’t have a choice...

During a routine assignment, Trista stumbles across a cryptic exchange. She doesn’t think much of it...until someone tries to murder her—twice. Both times, Matt had been there to save her. But now she has to hide. And her new bodyguard, Matt, and his K-9 are the only hope she has against the powerful forces that want her dead.

"This was a new author to me and the cover and the synopsis of the book drew me in but after that with the turn of the first page I was hooked. This book has it all.
Great edge of the seat plot, a male lead that is smoking hot, smart female character, a dog to die for and a host of guy friends that will star in their own books I hope. Great start to a series. I could not put it down. I even shed a few tears at the end. Really good read." - Daphne C., Goodreads

"Lock N Load is
a terrific romantic suspense. I loved the plot! The author is new to me and I enjoyed her writing style and will be reading more of her books." - Marcia S., Goodreads

"This was a well-written,
perfectly paced romantic suspense novel and I cannot wait for book two! This is also the first book I've read by Tee, and I plan to scoop up the rest of her books as soon as I can." - Cola B., Goodreads

"
A riveting five star read. This is a suspenseful ride that you don't want to get off of. It has an excellent storyline, great characters, suspense from the beginning until the end, danger, mystery, great secondary characters and last but not least a loveable dog and cat that will win your heart. I can't wait to read the next book by this author. I would definitely recommend this book." - Shirley L, NetGalley

"Hot guys, dogs and danger
this story has it all." - In My Humble Opinion blog

From the Author

Lock 'N' Load is book 1 in the Federal K-9 series, although each book is a standalone story with its own hero, heroine, and K-9. While you do meet some of the other characters from the "Federal K-9 crew" in each book, the books can be read out of order without any problem. This book is Matt, Trista, and Sheba's story and the first of this series. When LNL released, I had no idea it would become the best-selling book that it is.

I hope you enjoy Lock 'N' Load. If you do, you may also enjoy the other books in this series. Here is the entire Fed K-9 list in order:

Lock 'N' Load - Matt, Trista, and Sheba's story
Armed 'N' Ready - Nick, Andi, and Saxon's story
Dark 'N' Deadly - Eric, Tess, and Tiger's story
Trap 'N' Trace - Dayne, Katrina, and Remy's story
Serve 'N' Protect - Markus, Cassidy, and Ghost's story
Honor 'N' Duty - Kade, Laia, and Smoke's story
Above 'N' Beyond - Jamie, Bella, and Jax's story - releases October 16, 2023!

Please check out Tough Justice, the first of my brand-new K-9 Special Ops series that takes place in Colorado. Tough Justice is available now.
Burning Justice releases August 22, 2023.

Best wishes and stay safe.

5 out of 5 stars
An engaging and addictive read.
He didn’t know where any of this was going, but the more time he spent with her, the more he understood one thing with unerring certainty. For her, he’d do just about anything. Tee O’Fallon has quickly become one of my go-to authors for romantic suspense. Her blend of edge-of-your-seat action and heart-pounding realness with sexy, swoony love always makes for an engaging and addictive read. Lock ‘N’ Load is no exception. Matt and Trista were secrets and chemistry and gah, infuriating back-and-forth (I’m looking you, Sgt. Connors), and the way they—and scene-stealing Sheba—came together worked for me. Hard. The slow spark and burn of this romance made it damn near impossible to put down. I kept one-more-chaptering Lock ‘N’ Load well into the night, and again first thing the next morning, and though I wanted to growl at Matt at times, and cuss on behalf of Trista, mostly, I was just desperate for answers . . . and a HEA. And now that I’m done, I’m desperate for the next book. I mean, I was all-in with this series before the appearance of Matt’s fellow Federal K-9 officers, and now I’m pulling at the leash wanting more. Nick, perhaps? Kade? Romeo? I don’t mind, so long as it happens. Soon. “I can’t live without this. I can’t live without you.” “Then don’t.” ~ 4.5 Pixie STARS ~

Lock 'N' Load in the the first book in the Federal K-9 series by Tee O'Fallon. Trista Gold is a CIA analyst working on analyzing top secret code. Her job is her life, she is quiet and doesn't do any thing to stand out in the crowd. CIA K-9 officer Sgt. Matt Connors meets Trist Gold at the security line for her building. Matt can't help but wonder what she's like under those gray clothes and quiet demeanor. Trista works late and stops to pick up food at a local joint but before she even gets out of her car she is grabs and dragged to the woods. Matt and his K-9 partner are headed to the same joint when they see a man dragging a woman into the woods. To Matts horror he recognizes Trista. Matt and his K-9 step in and save Trista but her attacker gets away. What is the world can be happening, Trista lives a quiet life, no boyfriend, a couple of work friends she spends time with. Trista is now under protection in a safe house with officers and their K-9 partners. To make matters worse Trista is terrified of dogs. I have to say I loved this book, it was an amazing read. The story is original and the characters are all amazing. The dogs just add the additional touch to melt your heart. This is a must read!

I read some reviews from people who were annoyed by everything from a cat name, a fear of dogs too easily changed, a wonderful man unworthy of love and a socially inept heroine who doesn't know shes beautiful! These are pretty traditional themes in romantic suspense books! Readers always have to "suspend belief" in fictional tales! Locked and Loaded is no different!
Hot protective Matt, beautiful but awkward Trista and Belgian Malius Sheba delightfully denying their mutual attraction is typical. Trista goes into safe house mode in a reverse snow white fairytale! Tiny Trista is housed with 7 K9 teams from various agencies! That makes 14 trained law enforcement agents in one location. Of couse, they interact humorously which of course is so cute and very safe!
While Sheba becomes like a girls best friend that does not ring true! I did a ride along with a K9PD unit and those animals are not pets! Highly trained, well behaved, dangerous and not aggressive to civilians, but they are not pets! That said, I like how Sheba was written as a "pet"!
While I never got comfortable with the need for a CIA K9 team, don't see why not either!
Anyway I thought when Trista and Matt finally spend the night together was as beautiful and loving as I've read anywhere. Felt special and emotional!
I like the novel, characters, plot and backstories! It was fun, entertaining and heartwarming! Isn't that what readers want? I know I seek those kind of stories!

This was such an exciting and suspenseful book. I love stories about cute geeks and strong, handsome men. Trista was one of the highest computer analysts in the CIA. She had even built programs where she could listen to people talking on the black web without the individuals knowing she was there. This got her into some trouble as she overheard part of a conversation between two Russians that was not supposed to be known to anyone in the US. Luckily for her the handsome K-9 handler, Matt, who usually checked her in to the CIA knew her. She had a crush on him, but she felt he would never look at someone like her. The first time someone tried to get rid of her, Matt was the one who saved her. The second time someone tried to burn her house down with her in it, once again Matt saved her and then he was assigned to protect her for the next month. It was heartbreaking how Matt had blamed himself for his childhood best friend’s death and didn’t feel like he should ever be happy. I loved the on again, off again feelings Matt showed Trista. The two had so many suspenseful situations they were in that had me on the edge of my seat. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

The writing is great, characters well defined and a storyline that keeps you reading til you finish the book! Two unlikely to be attracted to one another, meet thru embarrassing circumstances then get thrust into a world of deception and murder. All the alphabets involved, CIA, FBI, Secret Service, K9 units and some PD and a sheriff plus the Russians. Keeps you guessing and hoping that Trusts survived her abduction and her K9 hero survives his haunting anguish over his best friend's death 20 yrs ago, that has made him believe he doesn't deserve any true happiness or love.

I really enjoyed this one. It was interesting and kept me engaged the entire time. I enjoyed getting to know Matt and Trista in this story as well as their two animals, Sheba (k-9) and Poofy (cat). Trista is a CIA analyst and is very good at her job. She doesn't have the best interpersonal skills as she has always been very smart and so spent more time on the outside social circles. She is immediately attracted to Matt but doesn't think he sees her that way and she stutters around him since she likes him. It's cute. Matt is drawn to Trista as well but do to something that happened when he was 16, he has a lot of guilt and doesn't think he deserves to be happy and find someone to last. Someone attacks Trista and Matt is there in time to intervene and stop it before she gets hurt too bad. It sets them on a collision path though to spending more time together and trying to figure out who is after her and why. I got more connected to the characters the longer the story went on and I loved getting to know Matt's friends as well. This story was well written and had the intrigue and mystery to go along with the relationship elements. I enjoyed watching these two bring the best out of the other and helping them through what they had going on. I am excited to see what comes next in the series.

    4,5 stars.

I'm crazy about romantic suspense, and this book had in spades steam, sexiness, action and anxious uncertainty.
Since the prologue, I was intrigued and craving more.

Trista was painfully shy, especially around Matt. She wasn't socially self-assured, but she definitely knew her way around a computer. She was a whiz at her job and a work in progress on interaction with other people.
Matt was overly protective (with good reason), hot as all get out and oh, so broken. He cared deeply for his friends and he was willing to risk everything for the people (and furry friends) he loved.

Trista and Matt both had their weaknesses and their insecurities to deal with, but together, even if they didn't realize it at first, they strengthen one another.
They respected each other's vulnerabilities and urged them to be better, to seek help, to overcome their fears.
They were good for each other.

And the icing on the cake: dogs!
Bring me all the furry best friends and let them make a magnificent story even better.
