Publisher's summary

Niall’s never known anything but betrayal. All Mat wants is Niall’s heart. What will it take for him to coax Niall in from the cold?

Mat's connection with Niall is tenuous; one step forward, two steps back. Since that night on the beach Niall's been avoiding Mat like a bad case of the flu - which, ironically, most of his deputies have come down with. What will it take for Niall to truly believe Mat wants him for who he is?

Mat's overworked, Niall's unnerved, and then things really go sideways.

Will a killer destroy everything before Niall realizes they are stronger together than apart?

Long Shadow is a dual POV about a broody introvert and a somewhat patient sheriff. Mat’s going to have to prove to Niall he's the man for him. The Hamarsson and Dempsey series follows the same couple as they find their way to their happily ever after.

They’re back

I listened to book 1 in this series almost two years ago but it stuck with me. I really liked the former cop and the hometown sheriff and hoped they’d make a go of their relationship. Possible, but Niall is cynical and hard while Mat is sunnier, despite the tragedies in his life.

This book also has a murder, a separate mystery, an arson, and a whole lot of action.

Niall is sort of committed to staying on Piedras except he doesn’t have a place to live – the owners of the local motel are not enamored of the wolf hound. Fenrir is still my favorite character in the book – I am a sucker for a good dog who doesn’t always behave.

The mystery part was good and I definitely didn’t see the ending coming. I think what excites me the most is the fact there’s a third book coming and there are hints about what happened to Mat’s dad. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

Of course I’m loving Michael Dean. His narrations are always spot on and he knows how to say tuque. (Just a little thing we Canadians love.) So on to the next.

Long Shadow

Thank you for the Audio,I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Piedras maybe small island but it sure has act with a arson on the loss, a mysterious RV that is driving his man crazy, the same man running from his feelings(Niall) Mat has his hands full only to have his sister and niece have to move back home. He really loved his family but from the mouth of babes, right. Mat is willing to play the waiting game for Niall as long as needed. Niall is so complicated when it comes to his feelings for Mat, the sheriff has borrowed under his skin but old fears can't or wont die about his self confidence when it comes to relationships. Niall has always felt alone but his world is about to expand in ways he never dreamt having. Was Mat getting to close to the truth somehow on the arsonist? Was he a target? Niall was already emotionally wrecked by his feeling about getting to close to the Dempsey's but rage over a Mat's injuries push him to get involved now. Another case down but the mystery continues of the bombing can't wait for bk.3. Michael Dean did a wonderful job of narrating for Niall character you can feel the pain with which he suffered where Mat life is in danger.

Great story. Great narration.

I enjoyed the first book in this series and, I like the second even more. The mystery from the first book has left some unresolved issues that we get to dig into a bit more in this book. Niall's history, Mat and Niall's relationship, and some other interesting plot threads are explored a bit more in depth. So much tension! So much action.

Sometimes I need to work really hard to suspend disbelief in a mystery. I didn't need to for this book. The author does all the hard work.

I really appreciated how the the ordnance incident was written. My physics background makes it really hard to appreciate these types of events. No. You don't want to watch an action movie with me. I ruin everything with science. This incident was described just right.

The narration was great again with just a couple glitches that I noticed, but it didn't ruin the experience.

loved it!

This was a great followup to the first book of Niall and Mat. I loved seeing them getting closer. With a pretty good mystery as the backdrop, and a bang up narration, I would highly recommend this book.

Great Mystery and Romance

This series was tightly crafted from beginning to end. Absolutely fantastic romance with strong chemistry between the main characters. Strong mystery that ran throughout all the books. Highly recommended.

a really good romantic suspense

As was with the first book, this one was unputdownable. Hamarsson and Dempsey struggled through trauma, multiple crimes, and family (lovingly) invading their personal space all while trying to make a go at a relationship. This is a really good romantic suspense and Michael Dean’s narration made a great
book even better.

on the edge of my seat!

I love this series. it has this stark low key tension I can't get enough of. narration is good but story is excellent. the characters are so wonderfully written. I'm head over heels in love with Niall.

So Good!!!

First of all, let me just say that I love Michael Dean. I choose to listen to so many authors that I am not familiar with as soon as I see that he is the narrator. He did an excellent job in this book as well as with book 1.

Now. Elle Keaton. I believe she is a new to me author and this is only the second book I have read of hers because I read book 1 of the series and I loved it. I couldn't wait for book 2 so purchased it immediately. I was not disappointed. This book has just the right amount of mystery, danger, angst and romance along with humor to make it a perfect read or listen. I am not a fan of any angst in a story but Elle Keaton's writing makes it okay.

I love books with an overreaching plot that last throughout a series if it is done properly. Keaton does it very well. The end of each book so far, even though all the mysteries are not solved, gives you just enough closure that if you didn't listen to the next book you will be okay, but enough of a subtle cliff hanger to make you want to know more.

The next book will be out in a few weeks and I hope the audible version isnt far behind. The book can be a standalone but you definitely need to read book 1 to get the full effect of what's going on. This series is so worth every credit used.
