The last thing Heidi Cross needs is to fall in love with the enemy ….
As manager of the Young Minds Centre, Heidi Cross has two months to fight the eviction notice the charity has received. But things aren’t going to be easy, especially when she meets Vanessa O’Neil, the enigmatic and well-known lesbian, who is co-owner of the company responsible for evicting the charity.
While an intense chemistry sparks between the two women, Heidi knows that saving the centre must take priority over her attraction to Vanessa. But knowing and doing are two different things. As much as Heidi tries to keep her distance, something pulls her back to Vanessa.
As the battle to keep the centre open intensifies, a terrifying drama forces Heidi and Vanessa to decide what really matters most. But can Heidi even consider giving up her heart to a woman who is so out of her league?
The question is—does she have a choice?

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2024Young Minds Centre is an organization that helps young adults deal with life challenges and who feel lost not having anyone else to go to. Heidi has been the manager for many years but the center as well as her personal life are having hard times. And if things weren’t going to plan, now they found out through a news source the building the Young Minds exists in has been sold. So Heidi and her team decide she was going to approach the new owners, Vanessa O’Neil and her brother Craig. But when she meets Vanessa, Heidi is taken back at her beauty and Vanessa is struck with Heidi but tempers flare and not in a good way. The story takes you through some heartbreaking and some heartwarming scenes. I have been catching up on Jade Winters books I had missed over the years. I loved this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2017Well written and entertaining. Making assumptions with out having all the facts is never a good idea. You know when you assume something what happens. We have three individuals that are really good as assuming. Now to find out what I am referring to you will have to read the novel. I do not think you will be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2018The writer introduced the characters in such a way that I loved them. I could not wait for their stories to unfold. The secrets and the way they were revealed brought depth and love. What a story of family tragedy in the transition of life. I love it. Thanks Jade
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2017Another wonderful read from Jade Winters. I liked the characters, character development and interactions. I loved the way the way she brought out LGBT youths' troubles, as well as those of Heidi and Vanessa.
The unleashing of Heidi's inner strength was just right.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good lesbian romance with justice meted out to some baddies.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2022I just recently picked this gem up and am glad I did. Winters has a long list of fabulous stories and this is one of her earlier works. Her characters are well developed with great personalities and the dialogue is well-done. The pace of the book had me sucked in from beginning to end.
Even with so many characters that are central to the story, Winters managed to balance the pace and flow of each one quite well. Her stories are complex without being bogged down. No spoilers, just a nod to try it if you haven’t yet.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2017Once again the author produced a winner. Really enjoyed the characters, they were authentic. Could see a follow up with the niece as a main character.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2019I came across this book on a website for colored women in romance. So imagine my utter disappointment when I realized the characters were not women of color. In addition, the story and non-colored characters were mediocre at best. I wouldn’t recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2017Ms. Winters has never written a book that I didn't like. This one was no exception. In fact, I would have to say that this may be one of her better books! The romance was there in full force, some drama made for an even better read and of course, the wished for "happy ever after". I liked both Heidi and Vanessa. Both had a few things to work out within their own minds but both were admirable and strong women. The story of Kelli and Christina was very cute and I would hope that they could get a sequel? All in all this was a really good book and a very fast read. Jade, you are amazing with words. Thank you!
